AVB's deep freeze

Anyone else a bit concerned at what looks like AVB freezing players out?

Have a look at Benny's twitter and it looks as if he has been completely cut out of the match day squad, and possibly training too... Got to say I don't like to see a manager do that especially when there doesn't seem to have been any kind of actual bust up with the players.

Yeah I know all the ITK says BAE is leaving, but that would be dependent on him passing a medical and wanting to go and neither of those things are certain. Similarly Ade doesn't have to accept offers from clubs coming in for him.

Personally I love Benny - think he's been great for us as a player and love him as the super cool, one of a kind fella he is. I'd hate to see him go. But whether you rate him (or Ade) or not, it seems daft to freeze out players who may not actually be sold and who we might need later in the season in case of injuries.

Now we know AVB had a bit of a downer on Dawson last season - and he was gracious enough to backtrack on that and Daws fought his way back into contention. But Benny and Ade seem to have been given the total brush-off.

Both were at WHL yesterday, unlike others with a pain in their foot. And they deserve some respect. It looks like poor man management and bad manners for AVB to freeze them out.

Whether AVB wants them or not, I reckon he needs to show a bit of class in how he treats them.

Go on, then, shoot me down now... lol, as Benny would say.;)

On Ade, he's behind on fitnes due to compassionate leave so wouldn't have been an option anyway, I think...

I am a BAE fan.

But he was bought under who? Jol? Ramos?

A new manager is in charge and you have to either back him 100% or not at all.

AVB's system is different from any previous regime, so we may see many changes.

I hope not, it was one of my biggest complaints about Redknapp (to be fair it was a long list). I don't think there's any need for concern just yet, nothing wrong with leaving a player out of the squad, training is a different matter.

He didn't do so to Dawson last season so the player does have a chance.

Both are apparently on their way, shouldn't risk them in the matchday squad where one bad tackle could see them sidelined and kill a deal.

Also if Benny is so broken that he can't pass a medical then he probably shouldn't be playing regardless.

I feel sorry for BAE... I love him as a player. The sort of defender I really love to watch, a little dirty and knows how to get away with it.

Unfortunately for him, last season we needed someone with more pace on the left. With Sig / Demp being the ones wide on the left. There is always a big open space there with either cutting in, BAE just doesn't have a pace needed to make use of the hole.

Think AVB really loves the "walker" kind of player. One that is a willing attacking threat on the wings. Something BAE doesn't excel at.

I will miss him at Spurs, love his cleverness... But as it was prove by Dawson. U can fight your way back into the team.

Those tweets might be the reason AVB is trying to keep distance between potential dissenters and the main squad.. Benny is a bit too laid back and perhaps potentially a liability if he is gonna keep tweeting. I like him personally, but definitely think he should go and maybe it's just more wise to keep those leaving away from the core squad who need to gel.
It can't be ideal to use players in training who you have no intention of keeping in the squad.

That isn't what happened, AVB told Dawson (who has confirmed) that he would not be frozen out and that he'd get game time and the opportunity to prove himself to AVB. Events overtook them though with the Kaboom injury but it's challenged Daws and I think he's been looking a better player than he has done in a long time.

Benny is currently failing medicals in France and elsewhere as he's being sold and whilst we're looking to sell Ade, he's been on compassionate leave because of the untimely death of his brother. If he's already back then he'll be unfit because he missed a swathe of preseason.

I think we should wait and see what happens when the transfer window closes. At the moment both are obviously up for sale and so are not going to be risked in games and chance something happening which scuppers any deal. I think they both have fitness issues as well which means they are behind the rest of the squad and so cant really be considered anyway.

If they are still here in a couple of weeks time, it will be interesting to see if they return to the squad. AVB has form for cutting people out entirely though, at Chelsea he made a couple of players (cant remember who off the top of my head) train with the youth team until they found new clubs.

To be honest it happens at every football club - it's a part of football management

I don't think there's been any successful manager in the world who hasn't frozen out a player who he couldn't work with, or fallen out with a player who he thought wasn't up to snuff

One of the most successful managers ever - Fergie - had lots of high profile spats with his star players. But he kept winning things, year in, year out

It's just part of the game

AVB didnt freeze Dawson out. There's a big difference between demoting a player to backup and freezing them out.

Ade has been on compassionate leave and BAE has apparently been having medicals in France trying to get a move. If AVB wants to sell BAE then so be it.

I don't want AVB to freeze players out and so far there is no evidence that he is.

He is buying players who can play multiple positions so we can have a smaller squad where everyone gets more chances to be involved.

Yes we all like Disco.

But, he's just not athletic enough for the side we're building.

If you watch Rose in the last two Prem games, he drives into space at every opportunity. The modern full-back needs to do this, particularly if you want proper width in a 4-3-3.

Disco just doesn't get forward enough to hurt opposing teams and can't adapt to our new playing style - therefor there's only one solution - cash in.
