Horrible first half, but much improved second. Nice to see bobby get on the goal sheet, thought he really got in there in the second half, and he, andros, and paulhinho really ran the show.

You got some statistical evidence to back that up?

"Defoe, for me, is sharper and better at linking the play."

Wow....
What the absolute fuck.....

Sandro and Paulinho. The beast and the machine. Fantastic combination.

Townsend struggled for space in the first half but kept going and was excellent in the 2nd half.

I still worry about Soldado getting too isolated at times but when he did get the support in the second half he looked sharp. Great finish for the goal.

Also well done to Chiriches on his Premier League debut. He looked very comfortable at the back.

for the first 30 minutes we passed it around the centre circle. But as the last 30mins showed we have nothing to fear from actually trying to play some football.

Once we scored the second goal from a lovely move (very much against the run of play), we remembered how to pass and keep the ball. Villa looked physically tired as the game wore on and we didn't. That gave Townsend room to run and changed the shape of the match. It was noticeable that the introduction of Lennon and Dembélé coincided with our improved ball retention, but I'm not sure how much it resulted from the substitutions and how much it was just Villa's midfielders wearing down.

Nevertheless, if Villa could shoot straight, we might not have won that game. I think they finally managed to get the ball on target - once - in the final 10 minutes. After Benteke came on, we were under severe pressure for a solid 8-10 minutes - he nearly scored twice - and it only ended when Soldado scored.

I was pleased to see Townsend doing some defending. He doesn't often bother. Perhaps he's been learning from Lennon.

Chiriches also had a good game and, for the first time in the Premiership, got his playing-the-ball-out habit better balanced with his defensive positioning.

It wasn't ideal, but we got a solid result in the end.

funny hearing our fans singing the Gareth Bale song to Andros now. roll on 90 million pound bid from Madrid in a couple of summers and Bale telling Marca that he would welcome him with open arms

What the actual fuck. I would never bet on Defoe scoring a chance, however Soldado i'd put my left nut on. We haven't had a player who could finish like him since Jurgen.

Only saw the game a minute from before the second goal was scored so how did Vlad do? SO glad to see Sandro back for me the two Brazilians together are key to us being successful. The move of Verts to left back was overdue so glad to see it. I see Lennon was playing, although only noticed him for his booking, was he on the pitch for long? So why no Eriksen or Lamela? Really glad Soldado scored!! Finally from what I saw all our attacking threats came from Paulinho and Townsend; was that what happened all the way through?

There's no pleasing some people. When we're not getting crosses in to the box, we complain "where are our wingers" when we do it's "I'm concerned we're becoming to reliant on Townsend getting to the byline" LOL! Just be happy that we won. We are most definitely not even CLOSE to being a one man team. And for the most part, played quite well. We are not yet at the stage of our development where we will look like Barca every single game. But I believe we have a coach who, in years to come will be considered one of the worlds best. We probably have the second best team/squad man for man the the league. And in time (assuming petulant "fans" don't ruin it and put unnecessary pressure on the team/coach) when we do start to see the fruits of this team, it will be amazing. COYS!
