Definitely think things have moved on with this one recently, especially for JJ to start talking about it. Maybe RM starting to actively push him out with Kovacic signing...

time to play the ol' Special Relationship card.

You'd assume after 2 arse fkings and three years we'd have built up some credit on it.

to be fair we charged them a pretty penny for Bale. we effed ourselves with how we spent it. but yeah, how about a little love this way.

Absolutely! The Kovacic signing must mean its curtains for Illarramendi.
If he really wants to play in the EPL then surely we're the much better fit for him.

Agreed. Real Madrid likes to run a tight ship with their squad. There are their big money buys and their youth ste-up sprinkled in. Nothing superfluous (quantity wise, not quality wise). Khedira leaves, they bring back Casemiro. Casillas leaves, they bring in Kiko Casilla. They brought in Danilo and there are rumors that Arbeloa is on his way out. So the transfer of Kovacic means someone will go. Looking at the squad Illarramendi looks like the most likely.

James Pearce is the Head Journo for the Liverpool Echo newspaper. Has a direct line to the club BUT him & the paper have got the odd thing wrong on player targets and saying "LFC are confident so and so will sign..." only for said player to sign elsewhere (Willian comes to mind). They tend to get much more right than wrong however. Hope this is helpful.

I'd love it if we got him just because it would piss them off #getyourownscouts

LFC have no interest in this player and never have had so I have no idea why he gets linked to us. Thats what the reliable people on LFC have said and are still saying. We won't sign a CM this summer, unless Lucas goes but even then there is nothing to suggest he'd be replaced.

He's out of favour and has been off form. I think he would get his mojo back with time on the pitch but I don't see many other clubs giving him that with the options they already have., especially L'pool and Chelsea. Maybe wishful thinking but we are desperate for some quality in CM.

I think if we had a real poacher up front like we had long ago in Lineker, the quality we have in Midfield would really start to shine. As things stand, our midfielders really don't have anyone to pass to up front other than Kane and every ball going to the same player will quickly get read and blocked. This means our midfielders are having to try and do a forwards role as well as their own. We have a fantastic midfield but they are not given the chance to focus 100% on midfield

For those of you who think we have no chance of signing this guy, who would have ever thought that Palace could get a player like Cabaye? Playing in the PL for a London club is enormously attractive for many players.

Palace got Cabaye as no one else wanted to take him.

I would have thought Arsenal would want him.

If not Arsenal then Liverpool, in which case it comes down to wages and wooing.

I disagree, our midfield hold the ball to long.
That's half the problem and Kane is to greedy.
They need to release the ball quicker which is exactly what this guy does.
They would learn a hell of a lot from illarra.

Two things:

How do you know that no-one else wanted Cabaye? I find that hard to believe for a player of his pedigree.

There has thus far been little suggestion that the Arse want Illaramendi. If they wanted that type of signing then why not Schneiderlin?

Champions League winners medal? Check.
Contributed little to getting that medal? Check.

He's going to sign for Stoke.

Same reason we get linked to about 98% of players we get linked to. It serves the agent/selling club purpose for there to be "plausible" other interest in the player.

The positive thing about this 1 is we haven't been linked in the press yet.

Here's hoping.
