I think the big issue is getting the fringe players sold right now.
I'm sure Levy is discussing deals with the likes of Milik and Skriniar, but it's possible he can only offer so much, as he needs to get some funds in.

Not only that, but the players have to want to join us (compete against Kane, okay with not being in CL etc).
If we believe all the reports, our scouts have done their job and identified numerous strikers both domestically and around Europe e.g. Diallo, Wilson, Watkins, Wood, Costa, Weghorst, Milik, Daka, King, Edouard, Seferovic, Vinicius, Jose, Dost, Deeney etc..
Some of those might not be true and other are, and although we have ITK, we can never be certain how close we are or how far any negotiations have got.

The twitter feed is full of reporters and journalists from various media sources stating deals are very close, wages agreed etc, but then it's contradicted by other reports that say no offer has even been made or the move has collapsed, if we believe tonight's news about Milik.

I'll be more encouraged and confident we will sign a CB and Striker, once we see any of the fringe players leave, whether that's Foyth, CCV, Rose, Aurier, Gazzaniga Alli, Lamela etc.. We have to sell now if we bring in a non-HG player, so that's an additional complication.
It could be easy to blame Levy, but he can't force players to leave and he can't make them join us, although offering huge wages would help, but he won't do that.

It's frustrating, but let's see how the week goes. It's been a decent window so far, but now Son is injured, a new striker has to take priority over a new CB, IMO..

We definitely need to move some players on. Yet there doesn’t seem to be anyone really near the exit door. CCV was meant to be going to Bournemouth for example, yet that’s gone quiet (possibly to do with the EL).

This is what's worrying me more than anything to be honest. Only good thing is that we still seem to be moving in the market with an expectation that we'll shift some out the door. Has Rose even gone yet?

The trouble is we need a few of those fringe players for this week. I would bet any outgoing movement begins on Friday.

I completely forgot about him. I think we will have to give him away.

We’ll probably end up with someone like Benteke in on the last day. Actually I’m amazed we haven’t been linked to him yet.

This is my biggest fear ? Hopefully teams will get more desperate now and look to conclude deals for players. Didn't realise just how many fringe players we have until someone posted about 6/7 players who weren't even in the squad yesterday.

I would be shocked if we would go in for Milik when it seems he wants some pretty high wages and has a few serious knee injuries in his past unless his price somehow became available for well below 20ish million. I would say he seems the best option, but it just doesn't add up to me. Maybe the scenario will become likely if later in the week Napoli still don't have a suitor and start to panic to sell.

@the lad - do you disagree with the fact we’re not owned by a sovereign wealth fund or with the statement that it’s sensible to not get upset by a thing which has a week to still happen or not?

Are you just annoyed a transfer hasn’t happened on your “pluck a day out of the air” schedule? Nod to the global pandemic too.

I do accept we are owned by an investment company not a sovereign wealth fund.

What I do not accept is that it is acceptable to only have one senior striker for over one year. IMO it is unacceptable negligence and has been proven to be negligent.

I'm wondering at what point the penny will drop and people who keep regurgitating this will realise that Son is our other "striker". There was no such thing as a 'limited' player in the Poch system. The only player that ever played one role was the goalkeeper.

Moura and Son both stood in for Kane and did well, and very often (if not more than not) played ahead of Llorente and Janssen, so this 'one senior striker" thing really needs to be put to bed.

(edit: amazing people disagree with this as it's simply a fact. Ignorance is bliss eh)

The loan scenario mooted in the Italian press last week, with him signing a year's extension at Napoli, would mitigate some of that. We get a look at him to ensure he's in top condition, he gets a look at us to ensure that he's actually going to see a decent amount of game time in spite of the Kane factor. Meanwhile Napoli protect their asset and get a nice loan fee. Makes some sense really, and sounds very Levy. Could see there being something in that type of a deal, though from the latest noises I expect it more likely to be done with a club other than us.

At this rate, I am more than happy to offer up my services to play as back up to Kane.

32k a week on a loan. 100k signing on fee. Expenses paid for too.

On loan from who? I'd do it for 32k a year in this economic climate.
