Are we happy with the transfer window?

In my very humble opinion this transfer window has been an exceptionally good one, The obvious high points are the four International defenders we have bought in all of them high quality. I have to say that even Gunter who I didn’t really know before has impressed in his early appearances and at a young age too.

As well as this we have let go a number of our home grown players who, much as we liked them, weren’t going to make the grade at our level, Routledge has finally gone permanently, how was it so hard before? Gardiner out on loan with a view to permanency next window, again how was it so hard before? Paul Staltieri the same and we have finally ended the Jermain Defoe saga.
I can’t escape the feeling of having closed the door on messy piles of unfinished business that had been hanging around for ages.

Does any one agree that there seems to be more action than activity at the club now and hard nosed decisions are being made with “no” not being accepted as an answer? If so it makes me much more confident about how we will handle Berbatov.

I certainly wasn’t expecting to end the window in this situation on Jan 1st and I am quite frankly chuffed as nuts!

I'll tell you tomorrow - so much depends on how Bent copes with JD gone - but of course we won't really know till FEb 24th at earliest
just to add ATM I think it's been a god window

remember how Berbs was off - Bent was gone for £10m etc etc -

we were going to lose 8 players blah blah blah - spurs meltdown nada nada nada

Very

Downing or Tiago would've capped it off though, more creativity in the middle third and another width option would've been nice, but for now, I'm happy with the shoring up of the defence.

This may come out wrong, but I'm really glad we got rid of Defoe. At the same time with no back up for the front two atm it doesn't look good and the midfield is still not good enough. At least it's looking good at the back.

Neither Keane or Berbatov are injured & Bent has been back in full training for two weeks, so we're ok.

We'll see how things develop. Woodgate was a fantastic buy, top player (and fucking bring on United now).

Hutton sounds a player. Good age to get him too.

Gunter looks promising already. Early days though ofcourse.

Don't know a whole lot about Gilberto, but with Lee there and Bale for the future i'm really not overly concerned if he doesn't work out.

We still need strengthening in the middle of the park though. Hopefully Ramos will bring in a big signing in the summer.

All in all, pretty happy really.

concern was that reports if true that defoe was offered a new contract but seemed to be reluctant to sign so it was better than losing him on a free..imo he will do well down there..as for the players we brought in they can only improve us..better window than previous years..

Very pleased by the way things are looking. Defoe had to go at some point if he wasn't signing a new deal. Have very high hopes for all four defenders, and Gunter and Woody have both started very well.

Hope Bent can find form now, he should be guaranteed more games.

I'm chuffed to bits with what's happened in the window. I'm a little bit sad about losing Defoe, but it was to be expected and he needs first team football to further his career, so good luck to you and don't score many against us in future.

I'm well happy at finally getting rid of some of the deadwood in the club.

Hopefully this is the kick up the arse that eveyone needs in the club to realise we are serious about pushing on and making us a top 4 club next season.

Can't wait for the midfield to be sorted in the summer now.

Has been an excellent transfer window for us and very please with the direction Ramos is going both with his players in AND out. A little miffed about Defoe but if Bent can bring his pre-season form to the table...who knows Eek

The league for us this season in my honest opinion is a right-off now unfortunately but we can still do well in Europe and we can still lift the League Cup which, would end, whats was a poor season on a high and keep us in Europe!

I'm quite surprised we didn't bring in any Spaniards actually.

Overall i am happy with the business we have done in the transfer window.
At first i was a bit suprised with the Woodgate signing, but after seeing his commitment and performance against Everton i am convinced he will be a good signing.
As for Hutton, well lets all be honest, Chimbonda hasn't had a great season so it was time for a change.I haven't seen too much footage of him, but everybody i hear talking about him really rate him and say he has a bright future so im happy with that,Plus Gunter is a good addition to the squad,he is young just like Bale And O'hara, so hopefully he will grow in confidence and become a good player.
Finally Gilberto, i know it was on then off then back on again, but i am glad he has signed because he will bring experience to the team.
We all know we have been very weak this season at left back so i am happy we have got someone in to feel the void.

it was good in that we filled a few much needed defensive positions

Very happy. Tiago would have been the icing on the cake but him not coming means Tainio staying and that leaves me with a warm feeling. If I get to see Teemu lifting the Carling Cup I WILL cry.

I still think that Bent can cut it and FFS he's still young. A proper training regime and more regular games will smooth a few rough edges and we have GOT to stay off his back. Don't forget he was single-handedly scaring Premiership defences less than a year ago.

Sure, we're all sad that Defoe has gone but I'd much rather he went to Portsmouth than some of the other alternatives and at least I don't have to think about that best way to deal with him any more. It took up far too much of our time. And now he has a whole new pool of secretaries to fool around with.

Taarabt up front. You know it makes sense.

Does this mean the dressing room has to deal with the toys-out-the-pram tantrums of Chimbo for the next few months?

Yeah I'm sastisfied with the window just gone.

We had a few positions that needed addressing such GK, LB, CB, CM and LM.

Now we've signed a 3 fullbacks and 1 CB while we let go of 4 players from our 1st team squad (2 def, 1 mid, 1 fwd).

Our defence, our obvious weakness has definitely been strengthened and that has to be a major plus.

But the loss of Defoe has left us light up front and is disapointing as we could be made to look silly in a big game when we need to turn to our bench, and look to it to see no real attacking option.

Therefore I'm satisfied with the window. IF Defoe had stayed I'd have been very happy though as obviously this window is a curse in terms of trying to get the good players in at the right price.

Cracking window. All you can ask in January is to end it with a stronger squad than you started it. Clearly, we have. Four full international defenders is a superb effort for a window where decent players are traditionally in short supply.
