Martial for Rose would be highway robbery. Danny looks like the Pre-Sunderland version of late. He's lost a step, his delivery is wayward and he's not got that ability to really beat his man like he had shown in the past couple of years.

Chelsea are the other big interested party in Martial according to the rags. Can't afford to finish behind them. Would be a great signing if we could pull it off.

I'd say it's quite rare for a manager to have total say over incomings tbh. DoFs and transfer committees rule the roost, of which a manager can be a part.

I think it'd be about options. Kane could be given a rest on 70 minutes or whatever. Or if we're chasing the game, bung Martial on with Kane. Depends on the opposition. I'm sure everyone would see minutes.

Martial would have every opportunity to earn a spot as first choice here. Son will be at the Asian Games at the beginning of next season so he would naturally slot into that spot, and then if he plays well he could easily hold it down. Not to mention that he would almost certainly play as the No. 9 whenever Harry gets rested, rotated, or injured. He's going to have to earn his spot at any big club.

Understood, I'm just saying that he's going to have to compete for a position at any big club he goes to, and the fact that we already have good players in the positions he plays would likely also be true at most (if not all) of the other options he would deem acceptable. With his dribbling ability -- something we desperately need against the West Broms of the league -- I would personally back him to become an important player for us if we get him.

That won't be the only reason I'd expect.
He may not have settled in the area or not be enamoured playing under Maureen etc.
He wouldn't get guarantees from any top club imo.
