He used to be amazing but the poor guy's knee is totally fucked. He isn't a superkid who's lost his way and form; he's a player who got a horrendous injury and as a result sadly just can't do what he did before.

He tore his inner meniscus and ended up having part or all of it removed, and it has totally compromised his acceleration, speed and other aspects. We should stay well clear.

If he hadn't had that injury we'd have zero chance of buying him. This isn't an opportunity.

For more info on his injury:

I think it’s pretty clear Johnson is our primary attacking target at this point. There’s little chance Fati ends up here imo.

Surely the club would be aware of this if they’re genuinely considering signing him and he’d obviously have to pass a medical. I wonder what the reason for signing him is if his injury is as bad as it’s being reported? Definitely sounds risky but if we feel he can get back to anywhere near his best then it could be worth it for the right price.

Could be a lot worse
Tbh I think there’s an element of “opportunity” to both Fati and Johnson. If Fati didn’t have that awful injury then he’d be the clear choice as there was a point he was one of the most exciting young players on the planet. But then we wouldn’t even have a chance of getting him. Ultimately tho it would be a gamble. He’s still only 20 and If he really was able to develop his talents fully we would have a world class player on our hands without question. But it is a big big IF.

Anyway, it feels sort of pointless now as it’s pretty clear Johnson will most likely be our only attacking addition.

Will be interesting to see how he develops and what happens to him tho. Hopefully he manages to get back to his best, he still has a lot of natural ability. I think in time he will develop into more of a second striker than a WF. I just hope he doesn’t end up at Arsenal who supposedly are also interested.

As far as I know he may be 'not-injured' in terms of being able to play a football match, although his previous injuries affected him so much, he isn't the same player he was before. And he was a player whose game was based on beating defence using his extraordinary speed.

Think of Adama Traore losing his speed, what is left? It's a similar case (obviously, Fati is/was better footballer than Traore, but I think the point stands).

It's not about whether he can pass a medical. He's been playing football, he's just nowhere near the player he used to be, and is also at huge risk for problems in the future. There's a reason Barca want to get him out and get Felix in.

He won't get to his best because he literally can't do what he used to. He still has skill, technique and can finish. But a huge part of what made him so good was his agility and explosive acceleration and pace. He simply doesn't have that anymore.

Look at what happened to Ledley. Footballers with missing cartilage in their knees are, sadly, permanently compromised.

We need a wide forward who'll take on their man and go past them with pace. That's not Fati anymore. Signing him wouldn't just be a risk, it'd be stupid.

Barca is cutting losses, I think we would be very foolish to take that risk. I'm not super excited by Brennan but I wasn't super excited about Ange, if we spend 40M at least we get someone who has done it in the Prem, is young, and has a good attitude. Not commodities in abundance these days

Got to be honest, this is a Mendes move who looks after both players. Xavi wants to keep Fati and he doesn’t particularly rate Felix but this is Mendes and Barca the club pushing this deal. Not Xavi. Xavi wants to keep Fati and bring in Lo Celso. They just managed to get Cancelo on a loan with an option, another Mendes client. This is Mendes via Deco taking over Barca. Regardless of one’s justified concerns over Fati i really wouldn’t be reading too much into their transfer movements. Xavi literally said this only a few weeks ago
“I already said that Ansu is the club's heritage. He is an important player and he will continue to be so. He's present and future”.

Also worth noting a lot of Barca fans think he’s on his way back to his best and don’t want to sell him.

Oh don’t get me wrong I’m not saying we should go for Fati, I ’ve been saying it’s a big risk from day one. A loan with option then yes, it might potentially be worth the gamble but at €50 mil or whatever big price they would want then no as it’s just too big a risk.

I think a loan with an option would be a great option for all parties involved personally.

If Johnson deal falls through (which I dont see tbh) , I expect Fati to be our last minute deal on a loan.

His salary is 12m a season (230k a week). So Barca certainly will save money.

True but what if they did a similar deal. Athletico have already loaned him out once.
Thus far Barca have asked to take Felix with a loan + option but Atleti ether want an obligation or outright sale. Selling Felix is likely what’s holding up their PEH move. I think you’re possibly right tho that Atleti may well cave last min as they have zero room to manoeuvre due to Felix only wanting Barca. There’s no possibility Felix staying so it’s a little bit of a game of chicken. Ether Felix agrees to go elsewhere or Atleti agree to an option. If Felix goes to Barca then they will have to get rid of a forward (most likely Fati) regardless the deal structure.
