I maintain that this guy, and Etienne Capoue, will be the two players to benefit the most next year from removal of the high back line.

No chance we're selling btw unless one of the two coughs up a sizable chunk of change, and for all the reasons @loaderspurs cited.

I will be extremely upset with this club if Townsend is sold for pennies and we keep Lennon.

Much too early to write a player like Andros off. I wouldn't be opposed to selling Lennon. He would probably benefit from a new challenge.

Agreed, and considering his stagnation of development by this point, would only serve as hindrance to the development of two promising young right wingers we currently have.

Those who are disagreeing with me should take a look at this, if you think that first touch is acceptable from a Premier League player who is training with zero pressure is acceptable then there are a few players on here who could challenge Andros for a position in the first team squad.

Not sure if you are just taking the piss here?

I saw a match, can't remember which, where Baldini and Levy looked at each other with a cheeky little grin (ooh er), after Andros did something. Can't remember what tbh. I saw the pound signs revolving in DL's eyes. For once in my life I totally agree. Daniel ffs take the £8m plus please now, I implore you.

I really don't see us selling Andros this summer.

If he does go , like alot of other wasters in squad , they will stick around till last week in window to try n prove themselves to new man . I just hope new man looks back at last season games etc and doesn't fall for the make an effort for a few months types .. I think Townsend tries in fairness but is just not quality we need to truly push on n challenge

Rather we sell Lennon which is a shame since he used to be my favourite player, now i can't stand him. Offers nothing to the team.

This season Townsend tried to be our Bale from last season. Things did not work out well for him. I only remember he accidentally scored against Villa. Did he even get an assist all season?
He has more talent than Lennon I think and needs to be coached properly. He could be our Walcott.

He is relatively young but he must have had his coaches training and advising him since he joined the club yet his flaws are still so significant. I worry he cannot be made much better than he now is.

Well, I shall miss the head-down runs in the general direction of the corner flag and the blind hoofs into Row Z, but our new manager is going to want some new players and we're going to have to flog some current ones to provide the readies. Townsend's got to be high on the list.

Strictly speaking of mechanics on an even basis, not a bad guess. But given all things considered including his age, nationality, and potential especially considering other homegrowns that have to be yet higher on the list, no chance this guy goes in the summer.

I'd rather keep Lennon as it is right now. Townsend hasn't showed me once that he has what it takes to be a PL starter for a top 4 team while Lennon has when he's on fire (which rarely happens nowadays). Andros infuriates me endlessly when he's playing because he doesn't look up at all and only cares about himself when playing. A one-trick pony with a complete lack of football brains.

Andros has ability, but I recall him saying that he'd never really had a serious injury prior to the hamstring one earlier in the season and it really set him back. Now inevitably that long lay-off has led to another as is so often the case. Whilst I understand the frustrations with elements of his game that some have expressed here, I also believe that like many of our players he could excel if he was actually well coached on an individual basis and therefore would like the club give him more time. He's a Spurs fan as well, so he might put the work in if pointed in the right direction.

I wouldn't bet on us removing the high back line

Only if it's Benitez. Both Poch and FDB use a high back line

We're going to have to see some wholesale changes along the backline and possibly even midfield, with intent primarily for far improved possession, if we're to maintain it; and i'm certain both will have the sense to recognize this.

I love how people are writing townsend off saying he won't develop into anything better than he is now. He has proven he can cut it in the PL, burst onto scene at qpr, and had an impact this year. It may not show in stats but there have definitely been games where his running at defence etc has changed the shape of the game. I've said before, he will improve in a team with more structure and coaching.

I also find it funny a lot of these people are also the ones advocating giving Pritchard a chance, who supposedly has so much potential and will become a great player. I agree he has talent, but he's only just finished a season in league one and he's only a year younger than townsend. To write Townsend off and then suggest Pritchard should be in and around the first team is just preposterous. You can't have it both ways...
