Love this quote from the article:

"Following his release at 11, he took four months out of the game he loved and reflected on his time in the academy system."

It makes it sound like he was a grizzled pro taking a sabbatical to do some soul searching after years of toil.

He was fucking eleven. He probably just went to school, ate Haribo and played Fifa with his mates.

Another game. Another defeat.

He threw the Dualshock controller to the ground - smashing it into pieces. The broken shards of plastic a cruel facsimile of his footballing career.

He looked down at the tumbler of dark liquid - his eighth of the night.

"Son, you've had enough" whispered the tired remnants of his sanity, but he just couldn't help himself and gulped it down.

The Dr Pepper just didn't taste as sweet now that he was out of contract.

And with that, he passed out on his bed.

Why stay up? Why continue to play another meaningless game in this meaningless world?

After all, he was just another out-of-work pro, in a savage system that didn't care.

(Plus he had school the next day and his mum said he wouldn't get any Jaffa Cakes in his lunchbox if he stayed up past 9).

From what I remember villa were changing the goal posts and the new owners didn't want to sell
From what I remember, it was all agreed before we pissed about and tried to drive the price down. Then Villa got investment from new owners and didn’t need or want to sell.

Finally yes. But and this was from his dad we were in the driving seat and fucked it. He didn’t want to come got talked into it was waiting for us to complete the deal levy played the waiting game eventually new owners came in. We had loads of time to complete and in the end he wanted to come.

And from others, we had to wait because of the take over.
I can't remember who said it, but the new owners said he wasn't to be sold while they were in talks.

I'm sure both parties are blaming each other, and it's somewhere in the middle.

There is no middle on the Internet, it’s always entirely the fault of whichever party you’d most like to blame.

Ultimately though it was Wigan that put themselves in such a situation in the first place. If they had treated their finances with more care in the past they wouldn’t be facing issues that lead to knockdown prices for assets, the same as anyone in any walk of life.

From what has been said, especially by Martinez, the Whelan's put a lot of work into making them a sustainable club and they were sold with no debts, their own stadium, healthy wage bill.

So this bit:

Is by all accounts, BS. The new ownership appears to be either highly incompetent, or a bit dodgy.

Roberto Martinez said:
"This is a wonderful family club that had no debt whatsoever, had fantastic assets with the two training grounds and a stadium, and all of a sudden is in a situation to go into administration. So I was totally shocked.

A bit dodgy? If the rumors are even 1/4 true, they were extremely dodgy and would make even more of a mockery over the EFL’s fit and proper tests.

I was going for the safe side of criticism rather than slander, as is the danger with litigious internet posts these days

Remind me, but I don't think we tend to officially announce academy signings do we? So we shouldn't expect confirmation on the official twitter?
