Supposedly an option for her to stay until May, but I’m not sure it’s from the club or Morgan’s side.

What are Tottenham Women playing at!?! Don't they know they're supposed to tease signing Alex Morgan all summer and then as the window is about to close settle for the female equivalent of Llorente?

Joe Lewis was involved in the development of the training grounds for Orlando City and Orlando Pride. It's possible that his relationship with the clubs helped this transfer and the transfer of Shelina Zadorsky and Alanna Kennedy.
I had no idea Alana Kennedy was with Spurs, albeit on loan. Thats awesome. An Aussie with spurs.

Forgive my ignorance here, in WSL terms is this Gareth Bale big, or Bergwijn big?
If you look at 1) her ability compared to that of her peers, and 2) her profile in the women’s game - this is closer to ‘Messi big’. Huge coup for the club .

There must be more to this. She must have a huge marketability in the US so this signing may be to promote the amazon store in the US

Sam Kerr, an Aussie who is one of the hottest properties in womens football has very unfortunately signed Chelsea and is a huge name here. The game is getting stronger. And having won the rights to the 2023 world cup ( with of course our Kiwi cousins) has made it even stronger.

I didn't know that either. It's nice to have one of ours here.

It's too bad that Montemurro is coaching the scum and there's a few Aussies there, and with Kerr at Chelsea as well.

You guys should've won the men's World Cup in 2022. Hope you try again soon.

As for Morgan, even just for a few months that would raise our profile so much in the US, and she's such a good player the squad can learn so much from for the longer term too. One never knows how a pregnancy break will affect an athlete but there are loads of examples of women who have come back even better after a pregnancy.

If she is such a big star, why she is playing in usa club? :/
Women's football in the US is probably more developed and more professional than in any other country on the planet.
Because women's football in the US is HUGE.
Yes and no. Women´s football in the US is huge - it´s one of the absolutely biggest sports for girls and women over there. Back in the 90s and very early 00s the only places to play football professionally for women (and make a decent living) were USA and China. Early pioneers of women´s football, Norway and Sweden had decent leagues and attracted some very good players too, but the money was never really there to compete. But: The arguably greatest female player of all time, Marta from Brazil, played in Sweden for something like 10 years.

The emergence of women´s football being taken seriously in the traditional big footballing nations of Europe, has shifted the power of the leagues though. Italy was one of the first leagues to grow and attract talent outside Scandinavia. Then Germany, Spain and France. Add to that the UEFA CL for women´s teams as well. English FA was in many ways late and slow, but has really been picking up speed in the last 5 years or so. It´s all about building a business step by step, and for all of UEFA´s flaws and corruption issues: they have been doing a decent job of building women´s football as a marketable sport. The most important steps has been taken by some of the national FAs and single clubs: Wolfsburg, Barcelona and Lyon has to be mentioned in that respect. Chelsea and Arsenal (sadly) have been some of the earliest to really go for it in women´s football in England, but gladly we are really stepping up now!

It´s easy to make fun of women´s football. Or: it used to be. As more and more nations have embraced the game and really making good progress in their programmes, their leagues, etc. the sport has been going through a revolution of sorts over the last decade. The USA has been like a super power in the sport since the early 90s. And they do have numbers on their side as it is one of, if not the, most popular girls´ sport. With a hugely successful national side, the kids have plenty of idols to look up to. But this is rapidly changing in Europe. The German teams have been really good for a long time, French Lyon is the equivalnt of Real Madrid of Galacticos prime (or really more accurately: like the Real Madrid of the late 50s with Di Stefano, Puskas, et al).

So: the US national side is probably the best still. The league is of a very high level. But some of the leagues in Europe, and especially some of the teams, is at least on the same level of professionalim or higher than in the US. Lyon, PSG, Wolfsburg, Barcelona and Chelsea would most likely have tored the best american clubs to pieces if they had played over there. I truly believe the English league will soon be widely regarded as the best in Europe and the wolrd. Even if they don´t have a Lyon quality side.

It´s all about building a business. Half the population are women. There is such an enormous finacial upside to make a women´s league popular and marketable: the economic gain would be astronomical. And: the PL is the biggest football league in the world. The female Super League is starting to have all the brands in place too: Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham, Everton, ManC and ManU - the only one really missing is Liverpool. The clubs and their owners are all over this: they see that there is money and loads of it to make.

Messi, Ronaldo, Bale, etc.

The biggest star and best player in women´s football today is Ada Hegerberg of Lyon. She is bot Messi AND Ronaldo in club footbal, having the records of both most goals in one season of the Champions League (15) and the most goals of all time (53 in 50 games!). Also the only player to have scored a hattrick in the final (in 16 minutes!) - in 2019. Winner of the inaugural Ballon d´Or for women in 2018. Would have won it again if she hadn´t chosen to not play for her national side, and thus making it wide open for the American World Cup winners. Megan Rapinoe won it, and is arguably the best quality footballer with an American passport. Morgan though is easily the most marketable player and the bigger "star". And she is an amazing goalscorer, as well as a leader as she is one of the captains of the US national side. She is a bigger star - and higher rated as a footballer - than Dybala was last year when he almost signed for us.

An enormous signing for us! ??⚽?
