Dear Mr Jol,
We, the fans and supporters of Tottenham Hotspur Football Club, salute you.
It is with a sense of sorrow that we witness your departure from the club. Your efforts and achievements for Spurs will not soon be forgotten. Under your stewardship we have seen the Cockerel rise from its perch and begin crowing once more. You have been instrumental in our resurgence and we grieve that you will not share in the triumphs that your contribution to the club will undoubtedly bring.
During your time at the club, you brought dignity, class and a sense of humour to White Hart Lane. You won the club many new admirers and instilled in us, the fans, a greater sense of pride – a pride that had been tarnished through many years of underachievement.
For a club whose name is synonymous with glorious football, you have lived up to that standard in no small measure and produced games filled with excitement, joy and sheer footballing beauty that will long live on in our memories, and we cannot adequately express our gratitude.
We wish you the very greatest success (we would wish you luck, but we feel that luck will not play much of a part in the success you will undoubtedly enjoy). Be assured that White Hart Lane will always welcome you back. You have become, and forthwith will always be, one of us.
Again, with the very greatest respect and affection, we, the fans of Tottenham Hotspur Football Club, salute you.
