I saw a stat recently that said Vertonghen has lost only one aeriel duel in his two games.
Perhaps it´s my failing eyes or other equipment but I wasn´t that impressed with Vertonghen in the air.
Triffic on the ground mind you.
Where did you see the stats?

Does it mean we will defend set pieces any better? We have looked like frightened school kids every time a corner or cross came in the 2nd half of the last two games.

I would agree re JV overall. But its early days.
He needs a couple of the ' wet, cold evening away trips to the stoke's of this world' type games under his belt, that will sort him out. Or get him to hand in a transfer request.
He just looks a little soft around the edges. Remember our expectations are probably 'a little' on the high side to put it mildly.

I think we've bought technically gifted players too though. They are tall, but all can play football. Dembele is technically excellent and just happens to be a foot taller than Modric. Dempsey too, technically good and two foot taller than Lennon.

Lloris surprised me. I thought he looked smaller. 6ft 2 isn't at all as small as I thought.

Those 6 plus Sandro Bale Kaboul Huddlestone, not forgetting Dawson gallas and Caulker should give us plenty of threat from setplays. hopefully an and to those awful match stats where we've 30 shots 20 corners and 0 goals.

From watching him talking, I get the impression that Lloris realy is one of those absolute loon goal-keepers. Seems quite shy and unassuming, and almost shrinking and sinking into himself - just the type to throw himself all over the place and chew his defenders heads off on the pitch. He jsut doesn't look that tall in the clips of him talking and standing next to Freund, etc. Looks a fine specimen for the goalkeepers union.

Exactly...it will do no one any service to imagine he is going to be Ledley at the height of his pomp after three games.

So AVB has already taken this club to new heights.

*my entry for 'poorest post of the year 2012'

Whats happened to you good man?

You are the best poster here and yet recently you sound like adiepf or Jay the Yid has hijacked your account.

Is AVB that bad?

Aw shucks Alamo!

I'm a fan of AVB. I'm increasingly enthusiastic about the season - I just had a bit of a post-window Moutinho-based breakdown, assisted by a few other things going on in my life at the moment. It's fair to say that some of my recent rants were an outlet for more than just football.

Anyway....onwards and upwards. Gotta feel sorry for Lennon though - he must feel like he's in the land of the giants.

A couple of wins should help lighten then mood. Except in Spurs Chat. That place will always be a doom and gloom rant fest haha.

Sorry to hear you ain't having the best of times. Been there done that. Nearly always cos of a woman!

Chin up Spurgs....

And chin up Lennon too. Not that that will help. Maybe a small box :)

Surprisingly not entirely to do with a woman this time!

Oh well...if all else fails I hope to see Dembele and Lennon develop a world class ventriloquist act for the half-time entertainment.

BAE is the only player in our best 11 not over 6'. All are pretty quick, hardworking and technical too.

I am glad we are signing bigger and taller players.

We have lacked a bit of muscle/power for a long time in my opinion.

Lennon aint in our best starting 11 imo, but I always believed Kyle Walker was shorter than 6' though!

Yeah. Dempsey will start taking Lennon's place IMO. We need goals from the side and someone else to get up and into the box, more than we need a second winger.

You are right about Walker - he just looks quite big I guess.

It looks like we found the real reason why we didn't sign Moutinho...

The paperwork came in and under height it said 5'7" and shit went downhill after that.

He will certainly compete. And the more I think about it yes, that would fit the AVB system perfectly.

Clint will play the kind of role thak Hulk did for Porto - playing on the right but cutting in and getting in to the box at every opportunity.

Between him and Ade hopefully someone will finally get on the end of the quality crosses our Welsh wizard whips in.
