I doubt very much that Ange will see it like that at all. He's working to change the culture and instill an actual winning mentality.

Saying that the only upside of a European competition is the opportunity to " blood youngsters " is the antithesis of what he's been extolling at every press conference.

If we qualify for the EL, I fully expect Ange will want to win that competition as well. Which again, is what we want.

If younger players happen to make their breakthrough as a result of our participation in the competition, that will be an added bonus.

Interview with his biographer where he claims that Ange will not prioritise cup games in any way shape or form.

Villa have let us off the hook a little bit. Still all to play for and more twists and turns to come.
I do worry about Utd as well, not far off either.

No need for a biographer, let the man himself tell you how he feels about more fixtures and competitions.

Mind you he says " I would loved to have had a game yesterday and the day before " he's referencing both CL & EL fixtures as the press conference was on Friday.

Press interviews are way too political and rarely have anything worthwhile in them.

Vieira could sacrifice a newborn babe in the middle of the pitch and Arsene Wenger would say "I didn't see anything".
Ndombele could take a nap on the pitch and the manager will tell you "the lads really gave it their all today".

In fact, possibly only Conte actually told the truth in interviews, and people hated it.

99.999999% of the time managers just do rehearsed lip service answers.

Even this season we were told a couple of days before the Fulham cup game how we will "take every competition seriously", and then we lined up with our reserves and got bombed out with a flat performance.

With a FA cup final appearance a strong possibility, how does that effect the PL run in for Manure ?

Top 3 look levels above everyone else this season. Everyone under that goes from looking awful to great to awful again 😂 no idea where we end up anymore.

Think we will be 4th, United 5th

Our best is by far the best of the 3, it's just the consistency. Hoping last night was a rocket up their arse they that can't be that weak again

Hope United come 6th or 7th hate them🤣. Thought of them fans gloating about Champions League is unbearable.
You would think United had won the FA cup today the way they're getting on lol.

Agree, also hate Man U, but if we’d have beaten the goons at home in similar fashion with seconds remaining having been behind 3 (?) times, you’d have to peel me off the roof of the stadium, along with 60,000 other spurs fans

Can’t see Villa messing this up, they have quite a few winnable home games.

They have a few banana skins as well.

And they haven't been in the best of form recently.

They got a gift from the ref today with West ham having 3 goals disallowed, and Villa having two blokes that should have seen second yellows.

I'm old enough to remember all of our past top four battles.

the reason that we are in the top four battle is that we are wildly inconsistent, like Villa and United. There will be lots of dropped points over the next few months from everyone.

In a weird set of circumstances and a lot of moving parts left to play we could end up in the conference league.

If Chelsea win the Fa Cup
England don’t get the 5th champions league spot
And we finish 6th
That’ll be us in the conference league
7th no Europe

of course a lot of moving parts there

For sure they haven’t been playing well, but in comparison to United & the points difference between them, I’m certain they will finish above them.

I agree about the inconsistency but it’s funny how perceptions change. I remember twenty years ago feeling like finishing fourth would be a watershed moment. For a long time it felt like it was beyond us even when we were having a good season.

I really enjoyed the football we played under Jol but at the time it felt like the top four was a glass ceiling and we needed to be super consistent to break into it. Now it feels like something a team might stumble into- but probably to the likes of Brighton or West Ham it feels different.

Have you looked at their run in?

Its very, very tough.

I think theyll drop points to Wolves in the next game as well

But for them to be overtaken by United would still require a significant swing. Man U are 9 points behind and with a much worse GD.

It’s not just a matter of Man U winning three or four matches, Villa need to lose (and maybe draw) three or four matches and even then Man U would need to be better than Villa in the remaining matches. It’s possible but it needs United to be very consistent as well as Villa losing a few matches and we haven’t really seen much evidence of United being able to do that.

It’s like when United went on this massive winning run when half of SC were worried about them catching us yet here we are, still 6 points ahead of them, even after being smashed by Fulham.
