Don't we want United to go through for the coefficient?

Interesting that United went low block after losing Rashford and have now conceded 4 goals. Hope Danny Kelly from VFTL is watching. Had to switch the podcast off this week when he moaned about Ange's high line

I know some are like "just finish top 4", but I'd like the extra lottery ticket.

We do but if they are going to bottle it we may as well get a good laugh out of it.

Kelly is old school. He couldn't see what Ange was doing, there will be plenty of other fans that felt the same way. Fortunately the fans in the stadium got it and that is all that matters.

Remember it's only the current season that counts.

Omg that hand against Copenhagen is dreadful. Never ever handball. Christ what on earth is going on?

Paul Scholes on TNTs analysis just made the point that defending low block with no outlet is tiring and eventually leads to mistakes and that Spurs approach on Monday might have been more productive.

I had to stop listening to that pod when he took over. I'm sure I used to quite like him back in the day but now he just grates.
Get more insight from the match day threads than you do from that bloke.

I do think these types of red cards need to be evaluated - I'd like to see some kind of intent or real recklessness before a sending off. In this case Rashford clearly not trying to do anything dangerous - just shield the ball, and a bit unlucky that the Copenhagen player gets his leg in there first. A foul? sure. But, I would prefer to see that as a YC and not red.
It’s the same with the handball for the penalty there has to be intent. They can’t keep giving penalties for handball when there is clearly no intent, in this case the ball’s behind him, and red cards for what is obviously unintentional contact. The problem is that the rules are written and enforced by people who’ve never played football. They seem oblivious to the fact that football is a contact sport and there will be physical contact some of which looks bad but is accidental and part and parcel of playing the game. Similarly they seem to have no concept of how a body moves when running or jumping and that arms away from the body are often the natural position.
VAR was introduced to improve decision making but it’s mutated into something that is destroying the enjoyment of the game. Peter Schemiechal(?) said it best. It destroying the enjoyment of the game for the people in the stadium. They stop the game because VAR has seen something that nobody in the stands saw and they spend minutes analyzing it while the punters in the stand have no clue what is going on. They are the paying customers who are having their enjoyment ruined while officials miles away micro manage events on the field. The game is going down the pan rapidly.

I’d be so pissed off if that was given against us.
We had one almost the same at home to Newcastle. At a free kick Dier was pushed from behind while jumping and in trying to regain his balance the ball(from behind him) hit his outstretched arm.

Those 2 goals for Kane look very iffy. No one marking the most lethal striker on the pitch. No one.
Don’t be so retro; modern defenders don’t mark opponents’ strikers they mark their precious zone. You just can’t trust that sneaky dangerous grass! It will score a goal for sure if you don’t mark it😂.

No the problem is people want it to be based on their sense of fairness. But then they also want refs to "just be consistent". The whole point of this "checklist" type approach that UEFA has its refs use since they come from 55 different nations with countless football cultures. Do you notice how the handball gets called a "European" or "Continental" penalty? It's because that type of handball is CONSISTENTLY given in every Champions League and Euro Qualifier. Isn't that what fans ask for? "We just want the refs to be consistent?" To argue "there has to be intent" requires the referee to be inside a players mind. I know people expect refs to be perfect machines but mind reading seems a big ask.

I remember the incident, but the bit I don’t remember… was that one given, then over ruled by VAR?

Or was it not originally given and VAR just reviewed of their own accord?

Could have been a very similar one in Luton Liverpool last week, Van Dijk heading a ball into I think Barkleys arm, from behind, from all of about 1.5 yards… it’s nonsense.

It was given but don’t remember if by referee or VAR.
