But for them to be overtaken by United would still require a significant swing. Man U are 9 points behind and with a much worse GD.

It’s not just a matter of Man U winning three or four matches, Villa need to lose (and maybe draw) three or four matches and even then Man U would need to be better than Villa in the remaining matches. It’s possible but it needs United to be very consistent as well as Villa losing a few matches and we haven’t really seen much evidence of United being able to do that.

It’s like when United went on this massive winning run when half of SC were worried about them catching us yet here we are, still 6 points ahead of them, even after being smashed by Fulham.

Im not saying they will at all. But the post Im responding to said he was certain Villa will.

I dont agree with that level of confidence.

There is some recent evidence of United going on a winning streak. Look at their February results where they won four in a row. Theyll have huge confidence from yesterday as well.

However, they're still too up and down to bridge the gap unless Villa really nose dive. But there is a possibility of that happening to an extent.

Hopefully Fulham away was a big wake up call for us, and we regain focus for the run in.

If we take a minimum of 7 points from the next 9 I think we will finish fourth.

But I do think it will end up being relatively close between Villa and United.

In fact, possibly only Conte actually told the truth in interviews, and people hated it.

Conte had as big an agenda as anyone when it came to the “truth”. Just because he slagged off the club doesn’t mean he had some exclusivity on truth. He was just slagging off the club.

United are no better now than they have been all season. Don’t appear to have a pattern of play. Hope Garnacho does something brilliant. Yesterday they were overrun in the 2nd half but Liverpool couldn’t get that 3rd goal. In spite of having 5 v 2 at one time.
Liverpool again in a couple of weeks. They won’t do that again.

We still get 4th. I’m confident. Villa are going to drop many more points as are Utd, so will we for that matter but we’ll have enough to Knick it

United are currently 6 points behind, 7 if you allow for the +17 goal difference. We still have the bottom 4 to play, which usually at this stage of the season would not be idea but the bottom 4 are so bad this year, we really should be picking up 4 wins.

If so, that would put us 19 points ahead of United, with another 6 games to allow for, I don't see United being able to go on a near perfect run to end the season. We should be looking up, not down. Catch Villa, then see if we can kick on.

Both ourselves and Villa still have the top 3 to play, and they have European commitments which I bet Emery will take very seriously (as he should). There will be twists and turns between now and May so if you're expecting it to be plain sailing, you haven't been watching football long enough.

We knew there would be ups and downs this season.

But those downs really are annoying.
They are, but they weren't unexpected (at least for me). And I didn't have us in a battle for 4th the day we sold Kane, so I'm still good with where we are at. First season teething problems and all that.

Me too. Happy with the season but everytime I feel confident we could achieve that slight bit higher, a game like Fulham happens.

In a weird set of circumstances and a lot of moving parts left to play we could end up in the conference league.

If Chelsea win the Fa Cup
England don’t get the 5th champions spot
And we finish 6th
That’ll be us in the conference league
7th no Europe

of course a lot of moving parts there
That would just be typical Spurs luck. Happened before to us.

I wasn't surprised by the result just the performance. Fulham have taken 4 points from Arsenal this season, beaten United away, went toe to toe with Liverpool at Anfield. They seem to enjoy the big games then go and lose a silly game. But the way we played was unacceptable, especially considering we were coming off the back of beating Aston Villa 4-0.

It does feel very similar to the first season under Conte where we took CL from Arsenal, both teams stumbled and there were a few twists and turns.

Agree. I think it’s something we need to take on the chin but taking it on the chin doesn’t feel nice. That’s what it means to take it on the chin.

It seems blatantly obvious to me that we are at a stage where we just need to see something through. Maybe Ange won’t be the right guy but we just need to stick with something and not sack our manager every season.

The frustrating thing about the Fulham game is generally so far we’ve been very good when around full strength.

VDV was the only big absentee and not enough to excuse such a poor performance.

Fulham were very good and executed their game plan really well.

Hopefully it’s a kick up the ass to not take any game for granted.

Take a huge collapse by both us and Villa to let Manure into a CL place.
Last ten years in PL has seen an average of 68 points needed to achieve 5th place, both us and Villa should be able to achieve that and Manure would have to put in a long winning streak to getting near that figure , not sure they are capable.
I see one of those so called supercomputers is predicting 65 for 5th place so 68 should be thereabouts .

Annoying that we have another 2 week break after a disappointing loss, same thing happened when Wolves beat us last time.
