Have not seen this mentioned anywhere else, but the chance leading to the winning goal against Brighton was almost identical to the chance he put in the stands in the Everton game when we were 2 -0 up. I wonder what he was thinking as that ball came across!
Right, and not easy chances to convert when running at high speed. It's a great weapon to have, and the more he gets in those positions with his runs, defences have to adapt which also opens up space elsewhere for our attackers. As discussed by others here, hope to see improvements in his defensive work and awareness. It's an important part of his contribution to the team.

I know there is fierce Johnson support here, but this regular comparison with the greatness that is Sonny is beyond support into wild fantasy imo.
No 'fierce support' here, and no comparison with the player Son is today either, you seem to be the one heading into wild fantasy. I'm just positing that the club bought Johnson with the long term aim of replacing Son with him as one develops and the other fades.

We got Keane from Leeds, who has finished in the top 5 for the 5 seasons prior, whilst we finished between 14th and 9th in those 5 seasons. It was considered a step down and he did it because he was struggling to get in Leeds team, as they preferred Viduka and Fowler.
My bad. I'd forgotten Leeds weren't always shite.

Yeah, comparing him to Sonny is ridiculous. You only have to look at the comments on here to show how differently they performed in their first seasons at the club:

Would like to see him left out of the 18 for Winks in the next few weeks. Needs a massive kick up the backside. If that's the best player the whole of Asia can offer :wideyed:!
Not one for getting at a player after a defeat, but.....................

Good grief his game is in pieces, can't make a simple pass, runs around like a headless chicken, needs some serious talking to on the training ground
Good start to his career with us but since his injury he has been poor. Sure he will improve next season
Really not sure what's going on with him. He's gotten worse as the seasons gone on. Thought he started well for us and looked a real player but recently he's just offered nothing.

His touch is all over the place and his dribbling's been really poor. He doesn't keep the ball close enough to his body. It's so erratic.

There's definitely a good player in there but i'd expected a bit more from him so far.

It's really his touch that needs work. The ball bounces off of him like a damn trampoline. He should have like a day a week where there's literally nothing he does but try and control fast difficult passes. So many promising chances are spurned because the guy can't sort his feet out quickly enough. I like him a lot. You can tell he has the potential to be a very dangerous presence, but like so many signings he needs time.

he's both and unfortunately he's as much a sketchy investment as he is a footballer currently.
He has not even had a full season with us.. Yet his efforts and tries to wanna succeed are already chuffed upon as flop by some in this forum (not just this thread)..

He will deliver, given some time, patience and level-headed expectations..
I may offend a few, but I don't see what he adds. He's no game changer, he lacks pace and power and appears too light weight and surrenders possession far too easily.
I'm worried that many are expecting miracles from his return, when in reality he'll offer very little.

Look, I could be wrong, and hope I am, but I'm far from convinced he's our saviour.

Why the fuck we even bought him? One of the worst scouting results for us.... pathetic player.... this is what mitchell finds using his algorithm....lol
It's very one-sided over the last posts, though. I think we all know that Son scored a few goals. However, he also "showed off" some severe flaws that can be difficult to coach for improvement. And if we are going to point to how fans approach other players, repeatedly (Chadli?) we've read on SC that a player must do more than score the occasional goal to be worth keeping.

I think he's a pretty average player with a poor first touch but he does have pace, works fairly hard and has a good shot with either foot. I think he's more in the form of Demosey/Siggurdson in the sense that his level is probably a very good player for a lower top half team but his shortcomings become more apparent at a higher level.

Happy to be proven wrong though and I would never condone selling him after just one season as I did with outright plodders like Paulinho or Chiriches.

I'd certainly give Sonny another season to improve, but if he continues at the same level then he'll have been a big waste of money.

Clearly there's no comparison between Johnson and Son.

“Lacks pace.”

I’ve not laughed so much in a long time. Thanks for that @Wheeler Dealer

You should be worried as a Chelsea fan they have spent so much that they are in danger of failing FFP and getting a serious points deduction.. Plus what have they spent it on ? Not exactly spent well have they.
They haven't spent well but that doesn't mean they haven't bought good players. The squad is massively imbalanced and there is a real lack of any leadership but the players they have brought in are nowhere near the level they are playing at. The problem they have is due to how imbalanced that squad is it'll cost money to fix it, money they don't have because of how they've just bought good young players and not thought about how the jigsaw fits together. IMO most of those players would look a damn site better playing elsewhere to the point they'd be worth far more than they currently look to be worth.

First season in a new team is usually shaky, especially if you miss the preseason. But he is picking up goals and assists and gives us some much needed pace. Maybe he doesn't end up being a great signing but looks like he will be at least a solid signing plus helps us in HG department. He very easily could be great for us though, I guess we'll know next year.

I only switched on from the Palace goal, but the 15 minutes I saw before Johnson came on the the 15 minutes after were a real contrast. Great option to have off the bench.
