So unique that we also had Alderweireld and Vertonghen on expiring contracts and Rose publically telling everyone he won’t sign another one as well. Funny how that doesn’t happen to everyone else isn’t it? I’m not a Levy hater by any means but he stuffed up royally between summer 2018 and 2019. Eriksen is just one part of that but people act like he’s the one responsible for the team’s decline
Agree that what’s done is done and I’m sure levy won’t let the same happen again. But other clubs have not faced similar recently - I can think of one example from the other top 6 sides in recent years (Ramsay) whereas we had 3 at once. That’s incompetenceUnfortunately all those issues happened at the same time, obviously Levy has to take some responsibility simply because he's the boss but I can understand how the Eriksen and Jan situation arose. We may have learnt that we dont have a choice in the future if we receive a big offer other than to sell if they don't sign a new deal right away. We will see but this is the first time this situation has happened under Levy and other clubs have faced similar recently so all we can do is hope we learn. What's done is done.

He actually didn't say anything about not being able to win things at Spurs, just your standard, "I'm here to win things."
"I'm here to win and start something new. The last time I won something was at Ajax so it's many years ago. I still remember the feeling so I want to achieve it here as well."
Just saw the quote ""There's a big chance of winning a trophy here or a bigger chance than where I was of course." I missed that bit the first time.He did also mention that he is more likely to win trophies with Inter than with us, which to be fair isn't a lie as there are only 2-3 really good teams in Serie A and there is a good 10-15 in the PL.

It is not an unreasonable thing to say and hardly disrespectful to us.
None of those are remotely the same. Arsenal were underperforming and still got money/assets for Sanchez and Ox - Ozil is a completely different situation as they couldn’t give him away. Man U didn’t lose anyone, and Chelsea got £100m. And none of these were at the same time. You just can’t allow 3/4 of your first team to be in that position at the same timeArsenal had Sanchez, Ramsey, Ozil and Oxlade Chamberlain all were sorted in different ways.
United had the De Gea situation, Martial, Rashford got all 3 to sign new deals but paid silly amounts.
Chelsea did well to get 100 mill from Hazard as he hit 12 months
I honestly think that this is the way football is heading. Prices are too high and if the clubs cant sell, or don't want to offer a player an extended deal, then what's going to happen?None of those are remotely the same. Agree it might become the new normal, but for now we are the only big club who have let it happen to so many players at once. You might think that’s bad luck, I think it was poor management of the squadI honestly think that this is the way football is heading. I don't think there's anyone to blame, it's just the way things are. We'll probably see a lot more of it.
Southampton have just done very well to get 5m for a player in the same situation as Eriksen. Said he wasnt going to sign a new contract.
We're not the only ones.

You make a good point as its fair to say it’s going to happen more often. But as I’ve said before, this is 3 of our most important players. Kompany was washed up/couldn’t stay fit but is a reasonable comparison to Vertonghen, but Mangala was a complete failure so not the same at all. That would be like us lamenting Wanyama getting to the end of his deal (sorry Victor, you were great before the knee injury). Giroud is a lightly used sub, Pedro has played 6 games this year. PSG can donwhatever as they have the money to just go and buy a new squad. This was a huge part of our coreOK, so rewind a year. The manager says he'll leave if Toby is offered a new contract. Do you offer him one? Jan wants a new contract, but he'll be 33 at the end of his current one which is when players often start to go downhill. Do you offer him one?
As for other sides Chelsea have got three coming up this year - Pedro, Willian and Giroud. PSG have got Meunier, Carvani and Kurzawa. City let Kompany (33) and Mangala (28) leave at the end of their contracts last year. It happens.

I just think it hurts when you see him say he hasn't won a trophy since Ajax knowing we should have been more successful, he's telling the truth but it still bruises a little for me.
So because a player is underperforming his, correct, view that he has a higher chance of winning a trophy at his new club is incorrect? He played quite badly in two finals for us, so what he's saying is a bit rich.
Part of the reason we almost didn't get to the final was him (VAR back pass) and he had an absent performance in the final, so he's passing the buck. It's disrespectful to the team imo
Inter haven't won a trophy since he left Ajax to be fair
