It could easily have been the case that they were looking for solutions to their FFP issues throughout the window and didn't want to let one of their best young talents go for a pittance until the deadline arrived and they had no alternative.
Surely with FFP sanctions looming you make the deals that are available when they are available. You don't wait for Betis to come in. And if we were interested, or any other PL team, PSG would know that they are going to get the best price from the PL. And no, he wasn't seen as one of their 'best young talents'. He was shunted from position to position and only played 2452 minutes in all comps in 2017-18 for a team that routinely blow teams out.

If PSG wanted to keep him or really thought he was going to be a star for them they wouldn't have added a buy option. If they thought he was going to show and be a 60M player the next year, money that would really help their FFP situation, it would have only been a loan which many teams would have taken.

There's plenty of good reason to be critical of our transfer setup but I'm not sure missing out on Lo Celso in summer 2018 is one of them.
I'm not being critical of 'missing out' on him in 2018. What I am saying is it doesn't reflect positively on us that he was available for a loan + 20M but we only bit at 60M a year later.

He was available on deadline day. You don't just let one of your top talents go for 20m when you have a month left to solve the problem in a better way. I'm sure there were plenty of clubs who wanted him earlier, but why on Earth would they have let him go purely for FFP reasons when their backs weren't yet against the wall?

Suddenly?

Come on im not saying people are suddenly being critical of our lack of signings in 2018. Im saying its unfair to be critical of us not signing players who were not setting the world alight in that moment of time who we were not linked to during that period and then using the hindsight of their performances in the 12 months after.

Its the same as people complaining we didnt sign ndombele before he went on loan to Lyon and ended up forking out 60 million. We cant keep tabs on every player on earth on the off chance they come good, we cant do the leg work for every single possible deal out there.

So, are you suggesting that we weren't aware of the goings on and FFP situation at PSG - a team we purchased a player from the year previously and are reported to be on good terms with? Are you suggesting our scouting team and our coaching staff of Argentines weren't familiar with GLC, an Argie playing for a top team in Europe? So it is reasonable to you that an Argentinean player that PSG are looking to move on wasn't within our sights? Do you believe Spurs made a 60M decision based on 8 months of work by an unknown player?

And how did I "condemn" Poch in a post where I literally say that I'm a "staunch PochIn-er"? As my post said 'putting 2 and 2 together' so it was clear it was conjecture my friend (notice I didn't even have to resort to calling you abusive names to make my point). Pathetic indeed.

You're calling it a 40 million blunder and suggesting that its the manager who should know based on the fact theyre both argentinian. You decided to put 2 and 2 together from a conversation purely about Leicester players and manage to take that information and make it somehow about Lo Celso, you can say he mentioned null windows but the conversation was specifically about Leicester players.

Papers are linking us to a keeper called Cakir. That's "bants" waiting to happen, if we ended up with a keeper of that name.

Thought Tomáš Vaclík looked decent last night, and looked like a young keeper, but having just looked him up (to steal the special characters), it turns out he's 30 :censored:

We are in need of senior player(s) with CB as dominant position, even with Alderweireld staying.
This wasn't a popular view in May, but it doesn't look all that stupid now.

Really? We have 2 senior players in Alder/Vert and then 2 youthful CBs in Sanchez and Foyth and then we have Dier who can play as CB. It's our most stacked position in my opinion. We have glaring holes everywhere else other than Keeper.
What do you think now? 2 of those are not motivated, 2 are inexperienced and of those at least one has questionably ability, and the last (Dier) may or may not be in the coach's favour. The defence in general is leaky and the CBs who will play are to be in front of the back up goalie.

Did you just quote me to say I told you so? A quote I made in may before the Vert debacle. Yeah Alder and Vert have fallen off a cliff and we could do with a new cb but the point I was making which is still true is that I think we have other areas that are bigger issues and in May when I made the quote we had bigger issues

CM - fixed by Ndombele
DM - still a massive problem
RB - still a massive problem
LB - still a massive problem
AM - signed Lo Celso

So whilst yeah CB looked better on paper than it does now we still had bigger issues which were a priority which still have not been addressed. Id love us to sign a new cb but we still have glaring holes which we need to fix. It goes to show just how big a mess we are in squad wise because on top of those we arguably needed a new forward as backup for Kane also.

Apparently Rabiot isn't too happy at Juventus

He could certainly do a job for us in the DCM role

Could even do a loan in January, if we weren't too sure

I'd be concerned that we'd be bringing in another Aurier. Maybe a worse one.

If I recall, didn't he have issues with playing DM and thought he should be used as a #10?

Portuguese papers ( not the most reliable I know ) saying we will be back in for Bruno Fernandez in January. I wouldn’t mind that, with or without Eriksen leaving. But having said that even though he’d be nice our needs are elsewhere, especially FB’s.

Poch has got a chance to build an exciting new chapter at Spurs

If we sort out full backs, centre backs and defensive midfield then Fernandes would be a good addition but as you say, probably not priority.

It’s also about opportunity, though. He very much wants to move. Sometimes you’ve got to take advantage even though there are other areas you need to strengthen too.

I think we should be keeping a close eye on Yari Verschaeren from Anderlecht. He's an 18 year old AM (19 next summer), doing very well for them and is a Hazard style player.

Already made his full international debut for Belgium and scored a penalty which he earned last night against San Marino.

Looks a really good little player, can play across the AM and wouldn't cost much if we go in for him early. I feel these are the kinds of young signings we stopped making.

Jan just tagged this guy in a couple stories on Insta. Guess you could say things are getting pretty serious.
