Very clearly JN had an idea of how he thought the project should be run and Levy being the smartest man in every room he's ever been in thinks he knows better so we move to someone less demanding and more trusting
Jesus Christ man, ain't nobody wading through that second paragraph!Like @yankspurs said, they should’ve just said nothing. At least that way after we get the new guy, then there would’ve been more time to come up with something better. Or even if it ended up like Chelsea, where Nagelsmann/his team obviously leaked the info he wasn’t interested, we’d know he rejected us, rather than us coming up with an obviously BS leak where it’s obvious in about 2 seconds that he rejected us. Clearly he rejected us, and we tried to beat him to the punch by putting stuff out. Just a PR mess. Anyway, while it’s incredibly annoying/frustrating, I guess a silver lining is we know beforehand Levy wasn’t prepared to meet Julian’s demands, rather than a year into his reign when Levy starts backtracking on promises and tension builds. Still, he should be doing everything to get him in. Needs to be out of this club yesterday.
Anyway, the more I think about it, I’d probably be most happy with Amorim out of the rest of the candidates. I’ve taken the time to really look into his and other candidates’ styles and how they have grown, and I strongly refute the idea that he’s just a young Conte or his style is just like Conte but with players that are more aesthetically pleasing. His defensive set up is definitely more aggressive than Conte’s. They do press in unison and with aggression, just not a constant high press like some others like Slot. Will play youth. And as much as this shouldn’t really matter, with Levy in charge I’m not expecting huge squad turnover, and his style is clearly the best fit for our current personnel. I’d trust any of the candidates to adapt to our squad a little, but imagine we have 5 natural wingbacks in the squad next season with a manager who can’t utilize them to the best of their ability. I don’t want that. Wouldn’t have that issue with Amorim (or Mason/Alonso), and I think the possession structure is more developed than Alonso/Mason, naturally due to experience. I’ve seen a ton of lethal counters with Amorim, and I’ve seen his teams break down the opposition with 60%+ possession. I understand he is the most pragmatic of the mentioned candidates in that his priority isn’t to dominate the ball, but this means he’s adaptable in game and has plans to beat all types of teams and won’t panic if his team cedes possession. The team’s natural instincts won’t be to sit deep without the ball. As I said there’s a pressing plan with aggression and intelligence. Has a bit of automation about him in his build up like Conte, but I see a lot more variety in terms of chance creation and the second phase to get the ball to the final third. I can understand the reservations. It won’t be super intense all the time, nor will it be a style that sees us constantly dominate the ball. But he’s young and vibrant, he’s someone who will build a project, adaptable in his system with ways to beat all kinds of opponents, will use youth and use the academy, will have us organized yet aggressive without the ball, whose style fits really well with our current personnel, and who has won major titles, specifically ending Sporting’s 20 year league title drought. Can obviously see positives with other candidates, and I am happy we seem to be consistent in the profile of manager we’re targeting. Just my preference. What we should be doing is getting a DOF first and Levy getting the fuck out of the way and letting the DOF decide. Sadly, that’s not gonna happen in a million years.
Nice of Daniel to reply in person though .I mean genuinely what else were you expecting someone who probably has no interest in football and sat in an office to say?
You see this post would make perfect logical sense if you trust our board to make sensible decisions….. but in the last 3 months it has been disaster after disaster. (Keeping a guy facing criminal charges at the top of our recruitment, firing conte and putting his number two in charge are two of the things at the top of the list). It's not embarrassing, the only reason anyone is finding it that is because everyone on the radio is going on about it. We have no idea why this didn't work out whatsoever, knowing why changes nothing at all, move on and find the manager who does fit the club. Perhaps we could do without pausing to dissect every minuscule event that happens at the club, for just five minutes, and let things play out for a bit - don't any of you want or need a rest from all this?
Nothing any of us say or do on here is going to influence what happens with regard to appointing a new manager and while it's fun to speculate, and right to be disappointed, lets not get salty about it. He's never managed in the Premier League, he's eccentric, I have no idea if Fragglerock would've been a good manager for us, but I'm not going to beat myself up over it.
We hired Conte and he didn't even want to be here. Better off hiring someone that does and that the players seem to respond toWait, so Mason (who now appears to be flavour of the day) is the best possible candidate for the rebuild?
When a month or so back he wasn’t even deemed the best possible interim manager?
We conveniently forgetting, Stellini was considered more suitable to steady the ship? Mason wasn’t even the best candidate internally let alone from the pick of coaches we now speak of.
Some of this Mason, fan-boying smacks of desperation.
I won’t be falling for it.

Presumably they’ve just seen him come out and fuck off Chelsea and want to not suffer negative press at the hand of another?Thing is, why say anything at all. Nagelsmann is one of the top possible candidates out there, saying we aren’t interested in him for some rather tenuous reason doesn’t reflect particularly well on the club imo. Ether we are ignoring our best possible target or the club is telling porkies.
It would have been much more professional to ignore Nagelsmann altogether if he turned us down and focus on our other targets. If Nagelsmann decides to come out with some press release about turning us down so be it, whatever we say isn’t going to make him less credible especially when our line is so unbelievable.
No matter who you want the manager to be I think the players coming first and our culture is one of our biggest problems currentlyWell, I’ll go for the negs on Nags!
He was the one option I was actually least excited about. There seemed to be a lot of red flags about his character. Didn’t Chelsea meet with him and felt he was a bad fit?
This team of ours is in desperate need of a coach who will put players and culture first. I just wasn’t getting that vibe from JN. I’m sure he’d still have been an interesting selection, but like Conte I feel like it would be more like he was doing a favor for us.
Not saying I didn’t want him. But I am saying he wasn’t my favorite choice.
he won it multiple times and got deep into the CL with a young side that punched above its weight, beating defending champs Real on the way to the Semi's against us...United literally hired the last person to win that league
Would love de Zerbi or Potter
