I’d feel better about our window if Conte had shown some indication that Spence was going to get a proper chance. But he’s evidently barely gonna get any minutes before the World Cup. So even though we’ve signed a RWB it doesn’t really feel like it in reality. I can’t stress enough how problematic it is that Emerson is our first choice RWB. Lenglet is nice depth at LCB but he’s not a great pure defender and likely won’t usurp Davies as Conte’s preference. Failure to bring in a top LCB has to be considered when evaluating the window, no matter how hard the task was. Bissouma is great but as a few others have mentioned doesn’t really offer attributes we previously lacked bar outstanding press resistance. I really feel we could have done with a Tielemans type, someone who could have facilitated a system change and generally offers a much higher technical level than any of our other midfielders. It is painfully obvious some games that we lack a passer in the middle. Richarlison I’m really happy with, slight overpay but otherwise a massively positive signing. Similarly, Perisic is a clear upgrade at LWB and was a great capture on a free. Udogie looks exciting and Paratici deserves credit for trying to build for the future but I do fear for him next season as we have seen similar age profiles in Spence, Gil and Sarr struggle hugely for minutes under Conte. We also lack quality depth at CB and upfront considering who Conte is likely to rely upon (Lucas, Tanganga etc) if we get unlucky with injuries (which are inevitable with our unforgiving schedule). The last two windows have generally been positive and we are trending in the right direction but for me the window doesn’t get more than a 6.5/10.

With regards to Perisic, he may be past his best, but I think the influence he’ll have on the squad is more important. Plus, he nearly always gets his cross in. Once Kane realises that, it could be huge for us. I see his as a Naybet/David’s character for our squad, he still has quality but his knowledge will help everyone. He’s also not quite up to speed after injury too. I’d have also liked an older signing at the back, De Vrij maybe, for a season to help those guys out too. Possibly De Vrij wouldn’t cope with the pace of the Prem now tho?

Just absolutely fucking delighted the window is shut. Now people can get back to really pushing their agendas and concentrating on the football.

I don’t agree about Spence. He’s already made his debut weeks before anyone expected - I think he’s actually impressed in training. Not easy with this manager.

today's UEFA FFP sanctions for Roma (Zaniolo) and Inter (Bastoni) could make a difference for us in the winter transfer window / next summer

I have to take it as a good sign that he threw him on, as I genuinely don't think Conte has any time for sentiment. Imo you have to take any comments from Conte on players that he's wanting to show him improvement as anything more than a kick up their arse to keep on improving. He even plays down Romero when he talks about him ffs. If you didn't know that he was one of our best players and a nailed on starter, if you read how he speaks about him you'd think he had about as much chance of a start as Harvey White, so any comments about Spence for me are purely motivational.

They were discussing who had the 'best' transfer window on SSN yesterday and pretty much all of them mentioned us as being up there. This, from pundits who are routinely described on here as being biased against us.

Then you come on here and...........:D

Interesting. So the “need to sell by 6/30” wasn’t totally bonkers - just that Inter ultimately just decided to break FFP and deal with the consequences

No way PSG can pay the €10m. Firesale in january
indeed, stupid rules only put in to give UEFA more money. ban them from the competition then, let us see UEFA do that and shoot themselves in the foot. Yeah right
FFP have really only hurt smaller clubs. The big ones find ways to sneak past

Window imho was ok - strengthened squad and did it early. Would have liked more, but there were some silly prices at the end with clubs panicing to keep fans happy.

Would like to thank A&C and Rob for persevering with us - know you lose it on occasions guys bit god who wouldn't with some of the drivel that gets posted ?

Also thanks to the itks (Trix, WLB, Hercules, Hotspur88 et al) who provide the ammunition for the debate..

The one name I've not seen referred to anywhere this year though is JJetset - so apologies but can I ask have I missed something?

That FFP shit is unbelievable. PSG’s fine for overspending and breaking the rules is to pay UEFA the equivalent of what they pay Mbappe for an hour’s work…

That will stop them for sure.

I find the whole thing incredibly disheartening.

City are just blatently cheating, Newcastle make me sick and Chelsea have been getting away with it for years too and PSG have UEFA so far in their pockets I'm surprised they haven't been given a champions League.

We do everything the right way and yet get mocked for not winning anything when it's clearly a totally uneven playing field.

There's so many reasons to be happy about the window. It demonstrates a real shift in approach. All those caterwauling about this window need some perspective.

1. We did our business early and deepened the squad
2. We focused on signing players the manager wanted to fit his system, rather than "bargains" and "prospects" who didn't (bye, Joe Rodon)
3. Showed a willingness to spend on the right players without wasting money on unwanted/lesser quality players (see point no. 2), meaning we can go back in for players who will improve the first team at a later date

Don't let the fact we did most of our business early, and other clubs were scrambling with late and often expensive signings, distract from a good window.

Conte is being realistic - we need more than one or two windows to un-do years of under- and mis-placed investment.

Rather than looking at Chelsea, i prefer the lesson from Liverpool, who finished 8th, 4th and 4th in Klopp's first three seasons. Look at their transfer biz under Klopp.

i would say our first two windows are better, and it took them five or six windows (when they finally addressed the goalkeeping issue) to build a title challenging team.

As long as we back Conte in the same way Klopp has been backed, we can challenge.

If you look at the bigger picture, you'll enjoy the ride much more.

Exactly. Feels like the longest window ever wasn't it?! Too used to have deals done towards the end that our window normally seems to last only a week. ?

Yeah definitely. I think it’s why there’s partially been some unrest. The club is normally asleep until late July at the earliest most summers.
