OK nearly always ?
Look I'm not looking to have a go. I'm just getting fed up of all the over emotive, factless, whining that's taking place. It's posters twisting quotes, and following the aggregator headlines. Which btw are still being posted over the original source more often than not, imo because it gives an excuse to trot out the same old tired baseless complaints.

Of course but again it's always been about being ready for next season not February the 1st. I know some fans don't like this, but the window is difficult and we need to bring in 5-6 minimum in total. I get what people are saying about the importance of finishing top 4 this season, but it's not the priority being set for the start of next season is.

Not that that means we won't be trying to get top 4 this season before the "between the liners" jump in.
Do you think not improving the squad now though effects the summer? We are unlikely to get top 4 this season as it stands, with investment now maybe more of a chance of securing that and attracting better players in the summer.

Really decent players in the summer are going to be looking for Champions League clubs I’d have thought.

I am from the north east and have many family and friends who are Boro fans. They would love is to take DJed Spence for money, any money.
Completely not rated by Boro fans.
He is fast and unreliable

It's not up to me. I don't know who we can and can't get now, or who is still willing to come regardless of CL. I don't know how many free transfers or cheaper deals due to contract are available in the Summer and I don't know how much we have to spend.

What I do know is that it isn't a bottomless pit, and over spending now is NOT a guarantee of top 4. If what we does now affects the long term plan financially it could well leave us in a worse position.

I'll leave it to the experts that are FP and AC.

Whilst very obviously the sooner we get any deals done the better it is for the team (and fans sanity) there is a part of me that actually likes Transfer Deadline Day. It's very boring when you know full well Spurs transfer business is done and there's no hope of a last minute Van Der Vaart. I like watching the (manufactured?) drama on Sky Sports News unfold.
Sad really. I'm a 51 year old grown man.

Sadly a damning indictment of the poor integration of our youth the last few years that he feels he has to leave permanently to get a chance to play regular football
It seems to me that unlike say Chelsea we don’t send out our youngsters out on loan early enough so they get frustrated only playing in the under 23s without any pathway to the first team.
of course others who watch the youth teams more will have a more informed perspective than me.

My post wasn't factless. Historically we haven't backed our managers with their number one choices, that is a fact.

I think you need to accept that a lot of us have seen this 100 times before and how it pans out so are naturally a little pessimistic.

I wasn't trying to be negative about the ITK but surely we don't have to love every bit of info we get.

The point i was trying to make ref Hercs ITK on the championship players we are looking at is i think they are a little speculative for what we need at the minute. If money is tight i would like quality over random quantity which has been our recent approach.

I don't want to argue Trix, i will leave it there.

Nothing guarentees top 4, but come on. If adding a 75m valued striker, a PL proven winger in Traore, and a Left Sided CB wouldn't at least give us a 40% increase in our chances, then why wouldn't we do it? Insanity not to.

So true. The amount of times, pre-Kane, that I read posts saying we bought that £20m striker in January we'd get CL. Some even thought we could have won the league the season Leicester did it.

All of that is irrelevant. New manager, new DOF.

Going back 10 years to prove a point that has no bearing on the new regime is pretty pointless tbh. This is Partici's first January window(and we already have the gem that is Romero), and Conte's first window altogether. Judging them on what happened under Damien Comolli for example is ridiculous.

I know the come back will be "well it's still Daniel Levy", and my reply to that would be he's not going to have given the job to Conte, just to fuck him about 2 months later. He knows as well as everyone else how Conte operates.
Is Romero that much of gem. Guy hasn't managed to play 4 games in row yet. If he ever manages to get fit and play we might find out.

Imagine if we went out and spent 40-50 mil on 2-3 players to come in and rotate only for DV's position at Fiorentina becomes untenable(looking more likely by the day) only for us not to have enough money to move for him? Could you imagine how SC would respond? The scenes in here from those same posters whining and crying because we've yet to tie a player up would be on another scale altogether.

All hypothetical of course but none the less........

If we are only able to sign one player this window then it needs to be a CF imo.

The problem is bringing in 5-6 minimum in the summer only.

Come on man, I know our squad is shit in many positions but Romero has been playing very well before his injury and is widely regarded as one of the top young CBs. Let's not rewrite history to create an argument.

Exactly spending doesn't guarantee top 4, not spending pretty much guarantees we won't get it though.

One for the Romero thread but we shipped 3 against an average it's team with him in. Has he been that impressive, if so I must have missed it.

I think you need to accept what I challenged was the point you said it is "ALWAYS THE CASE" which you have since admitted isn't the case. Really don't know why you are arguing when you've already said it isn't true.

Fuck a duck, I genuinely give up.
