27 now at the peak of his career, all that experience and now guidance under a top manger is coming to fruition.
May just save is alot of money

I really wouldn't be in such a rush to sell 25 year old Davidson either
Just swap out rodon for some real nailed on starter quality addition

Dier and Sanchez both show that in an organised team, with a clear plan they can play. With the quality of Romero I would agree that one more first team central defender would be ideal.

Not sure we should be getting rid of Rodon. We have never had four first choice CBs before that could / should all be starters.

I would say that Sanchez needs to go as soon as possible. Dier has always shown quality, Although he had a rough period lately when moving back to CB, his passing-foot as a CB is world-class and something we need when playing a back 3. Sanchez's only quality is really just his speed otherwise he is really dumb in his decision-making and therefore when out of position losing his feet time and time again, really needs to go

The passion and fight has always been there with Dier but recently, the concentration has returned along with the confidence.
He's cementing himself as one of the first names in the team sheet and the managers man.
Good to see.

I'd agree if any of the 4 previous managers showed even a flake that they rate him .

Doherty gets more game time, let that soak in

You know I'm starting to think he might be our David Luiz.

In a back three (and especially under Conte) - a solid, leader from the back with good ball-playing ability that can drive the team forward from defence, spot a pass and even take the odd free-kick. In a back two - often a liability and someone who can look solid and composed for the majority of a game but suddenly gift away a goal with a horrific mistake out of nothing (eg - Newcastle own goal this season). They also both speak Portuguese.

His two best seasons for us came in 2015/16 when he played as a deep lying midfielder in front of Toby and Jan, and in 2016/17 when he was part of a back three. When played as part of a CB pair in the following 3 seasons then he's struggled, but now is looking better again that we've moved back to a back three where he has others alongside him. Can't believe I'm actually saying this - but he's probably been our best player this season behind Lloris.

Don’t look now, but he’s turning into a really good centre half. It’s amazing what happens when you actually coach a guy who only permanently changed position 18 months ago. I expect him to be back in the England team by the end of the year

This was my thinking, I've never seen a 80 million price tag slapped on Dier in all the years he's been here
Considering we rejected offers at 40/50m, that figure touted might not actually be far off what we had valued him at.

Sanchez was our worst performer yesterday I felt, he would do something really poor then make a good challenge.

He'll be better under Conte but I still worry about his ability on the ball and Conte needs a CB to carry the ball out better more confidently.

Dier has certainly cemented his place though.

Pressure leads to mistakes. We were sitting back on our own goal line during jose and nunos tenures... That is going to lead to mistakes...

Now we are more structured and less defensive in comparison... Its more calm and less last ditch defending.

He's been great. I can't get on board with the Sanchez praise though. He was good but there were still some shocking moments from him. Our right side is an issue imo.

System suits him so he’s reaping the rewards.

His weaknesses are his lack of agility and movement in defensive one v one situations, a lack of composure on the ball when put under pressure, and occasionally losing important duels in the air .

As the central player in the back three he doesn’t get dragged wide as much so isn’t as exposed in one v ones, he doesn’t get pressured as much because he sits 5 yards deeper than the two wide CBs, and we have greater numbers in the box so he is less isolated against big forwards.

He’s also a good talker so playing in that deep role organising the defence with the whole game in front of him suits him as well.

Been one of our best players since Conte came in. Very impressed.

Never thought I'd say this but he just can't be dropped right now. So when Romero comes back he will be taking Sanchez place

I know its just an isolated moment but no way does Romero get back in time to block that last minute cross to give salah a tap in
