His name is Gary Lineker. I don’t get how so Spurs fans get it wrong. He was England captain, and scored in a cup final for us.
What type of player we talking here? Elegant like Berbatov or a bulldozer like Drogba

Neither, more of an out and out poacher. It's hard to compare him to a modern day player, more is expected of a striker now than just getting on the end of things.

Recommend you do visit Linekers Bar Ibiza and talk with Wayne. He'll be happy to tell you everything about his brother Gary.

I'm old enough to remember former Southampton and England forward Mick Channon referring to Gary as 'The boy Line-acre.'

I'm too young to have seen him play, but having watched a lot of his goals in retrospect, I think the closest you'll probably get to him from a modern day player is Javier Hernandez. Lots of goals from within the 6 yard area. This is a bit of an educated guess, so perhaps someone who watched him at the time can probably explain whether I'm correct or incorrect.

Strange bump - but I'm too young to have any opinion on Lineker. Given his repute, can someone please tell me as to whether he was any good ?

He was a World Class striker in his day. Lightening quick, strong, continuous intelligent movement, and top class finisher.

He got a lot of tap ins because his movement was so relentless. He'd make gambling runs 10 times and not receive the ball, then score the 11th. But his range of finishing and decision making around the box was top class.

He was a mentally strong and able to score important goals under pressure.

The late equaliser against W.Germany in Italia '90 semi final probably the pinnacle of this imo, and probably the favourite goal of my childhood.

10 minutes to go. 30 million watching at home...

Looks simple but it's pretty much the only action he can take to score, and it's not the obvious choice.

Most strikers in that pressure situation would either try and belt it first time, or take it down in front of the defender before shifting the ball to get a shot off, and get blocked by the incoming right back.

Great player.

He also wasn’t one to play dirty, as in, I don’t think I remember him ever getting a yellow or red card in his quite long playing career.

Does he rank as one of the two you'd pick as Spurs best ever strikers?

Would it be Sherringham - Linekar?
