What would you do if Kane came out this year and said I wanna win things we need to sign more high profile players not players I have to google. Personally I'd back him and hope the club listened and took action. Obviously with Corona we're restricted right now but not when Rose was saying it.

Any way I wanna win some stuff now. I could handle being in and around it with Poch because we played mostly good attacking football. If we are playing to win now and always being the most attractive we need to be all out to win and sign the right players.
I’d say he was being disrespectful and a bellend

If he'd just stuck to saying that we needed to sign players then he probably would've been fine, it was all the other stuff that went with it that caused a problem. And Kane's been pretty much saying that we need to sign players as well, he just does it in a more subtle way by saying that the club needs to be ambitious.

Feel for Rose. Said what we all say in here and his career never got back on track after that. I hope he can get a good move and find some form again.
It wasn't that though that hurt his career. Ultimatly, he got injured and was out for a long time, he didn't come back to the same level. This is absolutely normal and happens with lots of players (see Sandro, Jenas, Huddlestone, Lennon, Wanyama and countless of others in this club). Injuries have an underrated impact on peoples careers.

What I will say is he hasn't helped his career by appearing to be selective about where he goes (and I also think what he said was extremely unprofessional), though I do respect him for publically talking about his mental health and a lot of the shit he gets here wouldn't be a problem if he was playing well, but him not playing well isn't surprising and a common career trend that, unfortunately, is a natural part of football.

Ok well let's just accept mediocre then.
The issue is less what people think and say, but more about what is the right medium for doing so. Such things should be managed through internal conversations, going public doesn't really help anybody. If he thought the club wasn't ambitious enough and his concerns really weren't being listened to, the best option for him is to ask to leave, ranting in the press is hardly going to result in anything positive.

He just needs to go and play somewhere otherwise he’ll look back in ten years time and realise that he wasted the best part of four seasons, personal issues or not someone needs to remind him how lucky he is to be as good as he is to play top level sport.
Still think it goes all the way back to us selling Walker, it was almost like he was jealous that he didn’t get the move instead.

No but we were building a billion pound stadium.

It's not really that though is it. If you have an issue with how your employer operates you go through internal channels to find a solution. Trying to bully the club by running your mouth off in the media just makes you look like a bit of a self-centred prick tbh.

Based on where we were finishing in the league and the superb players Rose had the privilege to play with at the time he made those comments, I’d suggest that mediocre is not what any of us were accepting, least of all the club. Unless 3rd and second in the previous two seasons, followed by 3rd and 4th (and a CL final) in the next two is mediocre.

If that is what constitutes mediocre then is there even a point in the 85 odd league clubs in this country who don’t even have a chance of that existing?

Nothing to do with that at all though.

Hardly anyone had heard of Modric or Berbatov, doesn’t mean they weren’t great buys who improved us. Do you really think they would all have known who Ndombele and Lo Celso were?

There is no excuse for a player being being unprofessional enough to make that statement. You don’t have to sign Ronaldo to improve the team.

He has always been unprofessional and held an over inflated opinion of himself.

Precisely. And in terms of his colleagues at the time, how many of us can honestly say we knew much more than ‘heard his name from time to time/ maybe seen him play one or twice’ when we signed any of Lamela, Son, Vertonghen, or even Lloris. Hell, even Alderweireid, Wanyama, Dembele who had experience in this league weren’t exactly thought of as top quality by most when we signed them, while Dele I doubt more than a handful of people had even heard his name beforehand and he’d just had an amazing season for us when Danny ran to the sun. In fact, after Kane our two most eye catching performers that season were Dele and Eriksen, and Eriksen was relatively known when we got him but a huge risk when you consider the amount of attackers who look so much better in the Dutch league than over here.

And I’d definitely never heard of Eric Dier.

We had just had back to back record PL points hauls and leagues positions with a team of players who signed as non household names, so what Rose said was inexcusable.

Lol, if you live in ideal world when every player is interested in football and knows other players.
Players like Koopmeiners, Daka, Darwin Nunez or even some talented players from other top5 leagues would improve pretty much every team in the world, they aren't 'mediocre' and I can bet 80% of Premier League footballers doesn't know who they are

It wasn't just that comment though, he's run off to his journo mates a couple of times for a bitching session.
If I remember correctly, he was pretty much nailed on to be 'the dressing room source' that was bullshitting to the Sun not that long ago. Someone with a better memory will know the details but it was about dressing room unrest or something.

I'd say if it was only one incident it's easy to forgive. The fact he's done it numerous times, makes it different. Who do you think it was telling the press we had major dressing room issues this time last year?

We all see the way he acted in the Amazon doc. It's no surprise all our other top players get offered pay rise contract extensions yet he hasn't. Sooner he's gone the better.

I’m curious, does anyone even know what he does these days? Is he even at Hotspur Way or is he sat at home collecting his paycheck weekly from the couch? If so, my world is completely rocked as I had previously held the belief the best job in sports is the backup to a franchise Quarterback. I believe congratulations are in order, Danny!

All valid points, but when you're one or two players away from becoming a trophy winning side would we be better off buying another lesser known player, or pushing the boat out for an established star who could be the final missing piece of the puzzle?
