Not too sure. Chelsea have Green as their 3rd and City Carson as their 3rd only too.
Imagine Lloris gets a serious injury we would rely completely and fully on Joe Hart, who has not been convincing in the last 4(?) years. You can fill up spots of the putfield players with youth like Cirkin, White etc. but the goalkeeper position is nothing where you should start to save money.
I personally think Whiteman and Austin will probably develop the best if they get regular game time in League 1 or 2.
Yes but you're forgetting that his experience, professionalism and mentality will spur on Hugo and Gazza in training. A young GK won't do that.

The goalkeeper department can't be treated like every other position on the pitch. It's highly likely that Hugo won't get an injury to rule him out for months (it's only happened once since he joined) therefore you only need a 3rd GK sparingly, if at all.

You need to rotate outfield players more often and they are far more likely to pick up knocks and injuries, so if you decide to fill outfield back up spots with young HG players who are unproven you run the risk of having to rely on them week in week out.

It makes much more sense to have a 3rd GK as HG, that way you open options across the squad. There's a reason all of Chelsea, Liverpool, City and United have done it.

Imagine if last summer we had an extra non HG space to bring in a CM or CF.

I don’t get the negativity. He’s a back goal keeper who will hopefully provide a positive presence around the squad given his experience and history of winning trophies.

Yeah, and he’s free. Seems like a shrewd move.

Hart is pretty shit but he'll probably never make it onto the pitch. Looks like a good character to have around now he know's he won't be playing. Can't imagine he's on much of a wage either considering. Don't see who else is available on a free that could do the same job?

Can’t really see a negative with this signing, home grown, tons of premier league, European and international experience. A winner and seems a good character to have around the squad. He’s hardly past it 33 for a goalkeeper. Welcome Joe

good question lol, anyone know?
A footballing consulting business by the looks of things, with some empty 'millennial friendly' marketing devoid of any clarity or substance.

The main thing they've done is seem to create a database that looks remarkably like football manager UI.

The real surprise in this move is that I was under the impression that one of the young English keepers was going to fill the #3 role. I'm hoping this move isn't a precursor to Gazza moving on as I feel he's got a fair amount of promise. Also he's one of the most beautiful men I've ever seen.

Gazza is 28! He's never been a first choice keeper in his career. What promise do you genuinely think he has? I've heard of late-bloomers but that just takes the p!ss.

Hart is a massive improvement on Gazza!

I can't think of any other better English keepers that we could've realistically signed. He seems like the perfect choice for our squad at the moment.

A good move in my book he has won a league title and played for England at the highest level. We need experienced players to help the youngsters

Exactly look at other top 6 clubs, Man City have had Richard Wright as back up, Chelsea had rob green, Man Utd currently have lee Grant. Makes perfect sense to me to have experienced English keeper either as number two or three. Helps with the home grown status.

personally I’d look to sell on Gazzaniga now and either try and Bring in young keeper or look at the two young keepEd’s we have and if they feel they they are good enough then have them competing with Hart for number 2 spot

Jose has said before one of our main issues is mentality, and being too nice and lack of leadership in the squad. Holberg and Hart do directly address that even though there may be higher quality players out there. We already have quality, but seriously lack balls and leadership sometimes

Let's not pretend that this is 2016 Joe Hart we're getting. He hasn't played significant minutes since 2018 and, at that time, he was absolutely no better than Gazza is right now. Gazza is 28, Hart is 33. I don't have a problem with the signing but he's no improvement on what we have beyond his impact on the HG.

I can. If Gazza goes then we are less handsome.

I think Hart as no.2/3 competing with Gazza is very decent.
It depends a lot on whether our coaches see Hart as a viable no.2 or not. Personally I think he's probably on a par with Gazza based on his clean sheet record over the last few seasons being notably better than Gazza's despite being in worse teams. Clearly he has been error prone too, but I think they are of a similar quality and Hart probably brings at least as much to the dressing room and training ground as Gazza does too. I'm not all that worried about 3rd choice keeper as it is very unlikely we'd have both keepers out at the same time especially considering the extended summer transfer window.

So I don't really mind either way, but given that we are currently at capacity on our non HG contingent we really do need to try and offload at least 1 or 2 additional non HG players this window and for me Gazza could potentially be one that might make sense.
