Still not bothered.

I tried to drum up some interest for myself by reading a few things on The Athletic, checking out a few transfer rumours, watching some Spurs videos etc. Was hoping to feel some excitement at the prospect of football returning and Spurs in particular.

Seems emotionally I couldn't give a fuck anymore. Felt nothing.
Maybe it's a good thing. Part of me thinks I can watch football now for enjoyment and not get too caught up in it.

Lots of contributing factors, but the tl;dr version is that I've found I've been happier during the covid-19 enforced break from football (the games themselves, and the continuous football-related bullshit on non-match days) than I was before this all kicked off. Came to the realisation that, on a net basis, football makes me more miserable in aggregate than it makes me happy, even during these last 10 'good' years (relative to my first 15 years of watching Spurs from 1995-2010), so I reason that I'm better off without football in my life.

I can empathise . I think this is largely due to our steady decline over the last 2 seasons and a feeling that we have had our latest cycle of relative success and are now heading back to mediocrity until and if we can rebuild and rise again. Also, a feeling of uncertainty as to whether JM is really the man for the job.
I think this will be the most interesting thing about the remaining 2019/20 season. Can we take advantage of the fresh start and recovered players and actually resemble a top 4 challenging team with some semblance of a tactical plan with players on board . If we can achieve that, it will give us some hope for next season.

i know what you mean. The reality is I’m a better dad, husband and employee without football - and that’s a sad state of affairs. I totally recognise that’s, of course, purely a reflection of me but it doesn’t change it.

The other major issue impacting my excitement is I reckon we’re on (and have been for a while) a pretty slippery slope and going down at a worrying rate of nots.

At the end of the day I’ve been a massive Spurs fan for nearly 30 years, and its an addiction that I’m not going to be able to kick, but this enforced absence and it’s affect is very telling

I'm really rather dreading the return in all honesty. It's been a bit of an eye opener to not have to wonder why I'm in a tetchy mood, only to remember the last Spurs match to be furnished with the answer. I know I'll get drawn back in, safe in the knowledge that if I was indeed able to walk away from it, I'd have done it the moment Mourinho showed up.

I’m looking forward to it in general, but I’m equally conscious that I/we could witness us no better off that before the enforced break and losing matches because we get out-busied by teams and my disappointment at our decline will hurt my mood.

Mourinho’s record against his former teams whilst at spurs isn’t great, so I’m not overly looking forward to the Man Utd game, but I’m general I am for now glad a decision has been made and we’re playing again. Good to have the injured players back that’s for sure!

I'm still completely non-plussed by the return of the PL next week.
Even the video of the training match didn't get my juices flowing.
Honestly don't care about it at all right now.

I said that I hadn't missed it originally and I am still the same.

Not missed it in the slightest. If anything the re-runs of Euro 96 etc have made me miss loving football as a kid, before my view on it was tainted by money etc.

Have to say watching the Jordan documentary really helped invigorate this love of sport. For me I was getting a bit jaded with the fans who either A. Hate their lives and so angrily live through their team or B. The modern day fan who just use it as one upsmanship. Then you had the greed on the players end but watching Jordan, one of the greatest team sport athletes of all time do his thing really reminded why I love sport. Its watching those who have honed their skills to be at the pinnacle and the romance and emotion of winning and losing.

As of right now I think every football fan can be drawn up into 3 groups. Those who's teams are (were) performing above expectations, can't wait for the restart. Those who's teams are (were) par for course are indifferent. Then there are the supporters of teams who are (were) underperforming (that's most of us) who don't want football to ever return for fear of a continuation of disappointment and anger.

I've missed some important occasions because of my selfish obsession with Spurs. I've woken up at 2am to watch pre season games, I've phoned in to work "sick" because I've had a skin full on Sunday to celebrate/commiserate games. I've had countless arguments with the other half and I've fell out with good friends over the sport. It's all ridiculous and, if anything, the one positive to come out of this weird time is that I've gained some perspective. That perspective is that my life shouldn't revolve around 11 blokes running around a pitch, most of whom couldn't really give a fuck about Tottenham or the fans. Lifes too short to let football and spurs in particular dictate my life and my mood.

Think quite a few feel the same, I haven't bothered to check the training ground pictures or videos doing the rounds.
I think most are concerned with next season now, getting European football qualification this year is going to be difficult although not impossible of course.

I don't think I'll be naturally interested in Spurs again until Jose inevitably leaves and we go back to the "young manager/young players, build over years" philosophy again. When expectations are lowered and CL qualification seems like an unattainable goal.

Don't get me wrong, I was a massive supporter of Jose coming in but I just don't think he's got the ability to turn the club around as it stands. The squad is too jaded and tired and he won't get the money to refresh it. I don't blame Jose.

Levy's tactics and strategy have been all arse-about-face. Getting an elite level winning manager has been done as a desperate step, an attempt to reinvigorate a declining squad and hang on to the coat-tails of clubs which have recently surpassed us. It won't work. We'll fall away and sell a few players and Jose will get sacked with us in 9th, probably next season. Levy will then get in a young manager and we'll go back to square one and have another exciting project (where we won't win anything).

The time to get an elite manager was two seasons ago. The time to spend money was two seasons ago. We were a gnat's pube away from a title winning squad but a combination of cut-price transfer tactics and Poch's stubbornness resulted in the biggest missed opportunity this club has had in 35 years.

Levy is going to watch across town, sick to his stomach as Chelsea do exactly what we should've done - invest in key areas of weakness to complement a talented young manager and an exciting squad full of young English players. Chelsea may not win the title but they'll probably win something in the next couple of years, and their disgusting scum fans will feel a bizarre and amazing feeling they've not felt in living memory - pride in their team. The media will fawn over them, and Levy will look out of the window of his office at the top of the tower crowning the new stadium, watching the rain slick down the glass from the grey clouds hovering over the club, while Chelsea's kids delight the league playing in their own little ray of sunshine.

Going to be a hard watch, for all of us.

Covid 19 and transfer ban has certainly hit Chelsea hard.

Always been a Spurs fan more than an all round football fan. Rarely would I feel inclined to watch games not involving Spurs. That includes England which usually bores me to death.

There lies the reason I just simply haven’t missed it. I’ve long been frustrated with how money has dominated the sport and taken away any passion players have for the badge. Apart from about 4 matches from last season watching the lads has been miserable and only made me resent the time I devoted to it.

Actually enjoyed the break from football.

Having said that I really have missed the banter and activity on this site. That will be a welcome return.

Exactly. We became the envy of the league. And even better, we'd done it the right way, not with an oil baron.

Then we fucked it up and let it slip. Unforgivable really, and all the leadership at the time is to blame. The players gave absolutely everything they had.
