I get why it has started back, but for me it ended in March, and for me it wont be the same until its the full product.
It will be welcome distraction for some, but its the summer time, and even in the current climate there is more to distract me outdoors than sitting inside watching matches.

Now that it's upon us I am looking forward to having it back but at the same time I haven't really missed it.

For a while I didn't miss it and I was actually glad it was stopped because we were on such a negative spiral, losing games and players to injury left right and centre and were due to get thrashed by Man.U, Jose was getting more and more tetchy and it was all very depressing considering the high's we'd had with Poch.

Now since football has been announced its coming back at first I was a little not too fussed thinking about the matches with no fans etc and watching Bayern vs Dortmund it was ok but just wasn't the same without the fans, but now the closer it gets to the PL starting again and with all of our players fit I'm quite excited for it to be back and optimistic that we might do ok, but it is still a bit depressing to think there will be no fans for quite a while and I miss going to games and the atmosphere etc and also the impact coivd has had on all clubs but especially us with all our events being cancelled etc we yet again will have £0 to spend in the summer and i was really intrigued to see if Jose could get 3-4 decent players in if he could give us a title challenge and mabye nick and FA Cup but if we can't address RB, LB, DM/AM and back-up striker adequately using swaps loans and free's etc then we will just go backwards and its all a bit dissapointing, then Chelsea are linked with all these great players and I realise that the world has experienced a pandemic and whilst there will be no fans, nothing much really will have changed.

So very mixed emotions haha. Also glad Fpl is back with unlimited transfers for now!

I get that regarding other matches but surely you'll watch the Spurs game when they're on TV right rather than go out to a park etc?

Exactly. We became the envy of the league. And even better, we'd done it the right way, not with an oil baron.

Then we fucked it up and let it slip. Unforgivable really, and all the leadership at the time is to blame. The players gave absolutely everything they had.
Unfortunately you're spot on :(

Always been a Spurs fan more than an all round football fan. Rarely would I feel inclined to watch games not involving Spurs. That includes England which usually bores me to death.

There lies the reason I just simply haven’t missed it. I’ve long been frustrated with how money has dominated the sport and taken away any passion players have for the badge. Apart from about 4 matches from last season watching the lads has been miserable and only made me resent the time I devoted to it.

Actually enjoyed the break from football.

Having said that I really have missed the banter and activity on this site. That will be a welcome return.
Good post, can't argue with that mate.

I don't think I'll be naturally interested in Spurs again until Jose inevitably leaves and we go back to the "young manager/young players, build over years" philosophy again. When expectations are lowered and CL qualification seems like an unattainable goal.

Don't get me wrong, I was a massive supporter of Jose coming in but I just don't think he's got the ability to turn the club around as it stands. The squad is too jaded and tired and he won't get the money to refresh it. I don't blame Jose.

Levy's tactics and strategy have been all arse-about-face. Getting an elite level winning manager has been done as a desperate step, an attempt to reinvigorate a declining squad and hang on to the coat-tails of clubs which have recently surpassed us. It won't work. We'll fall away and sell a few players and Jose will get sacked with us in 9th, probably next season. Levy will then get in a young manager and we'll go back to square one and have another exciting project (where we won't win anything).

The time to get an elite manager was two seasons ago. The time to spend money was two seasons ago. We were a gnat's pube away from a title winning squad but a combination of cut-price transfer tactics and Poch's stubbornness resulted in the biggest missed opportunity this club has had in 35 years.

Levy is going to watch across town, sick to his stomach as Chelsea do exactly what we should've done - invest in key areas of weakness to complement a talented young manager and an exciting squad full of young English players. Chelsea may not win the title but they'll probably win something in the next couple of years, and their disgusting scum fans will feel a bizarre and amazing feeling they've not felt in living memory - pride in their team. The media will fawn over them, and Levy will look out of the window of his office at the top of the tower crowning the new stadium, watching the rain slick down the glass from the grey clouds hovering over the club, while Chelsea's kids delight the league playing in their own little ray of sunshine.

Going to be a hard watch, for all of us.
Brilliant post mate. And gnat's pube away from a title is genius haha!

Nah, just can't get myself interested or excited about the restart. And it's summer so I have so much else to do than sit on the front of the tv. Haven't really missed watching football, at least not Prem football. Money has ruined the game at the top level. The only match I watched during the lockdown was our FA-cup semifinal 1991. It just reminded me why I fell in love with English football and Spurs. So much more passion back then. The players played for the club and not so much for themselves. At least that's how it felt. And they didn't fall down after every touch/tackle and if they did, they didn't cry for the next 5 minutes on the pitch like the overpaid primadonnas these days. Some glimpses of the game I fell in love 30+ years ago can still be seen in lower league football. Just before lockdown I was watching Brentford v Sheff Wed at Griffin Park and that was much more entertaining for me than most of the Prem games I've seen/attended during the last 5 years or so. And I don't even support neither! So the lockdown really made me think if I want to spend so much for the matchdays or TV subscriptions to see the Prem as it is today. And sadly I really haven't missed watching us as we have been more or less a pain to watch for the last 1,5 years or so. And I just can't see that it changes for the better under Jose...

So all in all for me this season was over back in March. Have to see how I feel when the next season starts, perhaps the enthusiasm for the game comes back...

I really haven’t missed it. And seeing that ghost goal tonight in the Villa / Sheff U game has reminded me how much I hate football because of how the PL have so badly f**ked up VAR. They have been too willing to spend 4 or 5 minutes to rule out goals for very debatable offside armpits and toes and yet cannot / will not award a perfectly good goal which would have taken 10 sec. That could cost Sheff U £50m if it costs them a CL place.

Sadly, I havent missed it much. As has been pointed out - money and VAR have already ruined much of football, and hiring Jose ruined spurs for me... hope to find a way back, but for now I much more enjoy life outside football, and some lower league games

Won’t be watching the restart. Football without fans isn’t football. I saw a clip on Twitter from Arse v City and laughed out loud at the fake fan noise Sky were using - while at the same time showing stands full of empty seats. Then I read about the VAR farce from the earlier game. There is nothing genuine about football anymore. It stinks.

The vast, vast majority of fans do not watch the game from the ground even in normal times.

The alternative is that they hold off until mass gatherings of 50,000 people are allowed again, by which point almost - if not all - clubs have gone bankrupt.

Football without football clubs isn't football either.

And the VAR farce was actually a goal line technology error and nothing to do with VAR.

Suit yourself, though.

Not missed football one bit.

What I have missed though is the Giro d'italia, Tour de France, and getting out to play golf.

Oh, and my kids :cautious:

That is technically true but I think it's another black mark on VAR's card. The first game back and with everybody watching there was a chance for VAR to be used for it's intended purpose (resolving decisions that are clearly incorrect) and bail out the seemingly flawless Hawkeye system. But for whatever reason it wasn't used.

The VAR system has been used at length to try and determine the millimetre's difference for offside or handball decisions, but for this goal/no goal decision it wasn't used at all. Apparently the officials had so much faith in Hawkeye that they didn't bother having a second look, which to me seems counter-productive and a missed opportunity.

It seems like the decision makers do not properly understand the limitations or strengths of the technology they have and are not using it in a way that is good for the game. I'm quite an advocate for the use of technology in the game but if the authorities cannot use it properly then it will continue to be a drain on the spirit of the game and the spirits of us fans.

After witnessing the Villa V Sheff. United game, then all that occurred, then reading the reports and seeing the clips of the City V Arsenal game.

No. Still no.

We haven't kicked a ball yet and I still have that gloomy feeling I had before we went into lock down.

Same knives are out for manager and certain players.

Same state off the pitch.

No. It feels like being stuck between two millstones.

Hawkeye has got one decision wrong in over 9,000 matches. In other words, if there's no improvement at all, there'll be an error like we saw last night in the Premier League about once every 25 years. I would much, much, much rather have a fuck-up a few times a century rather than waste time going to VAR to double-check it's worked every time there's a marginal goalline decision.
