Will be interesting to see if we spend in the Jan window to fuel a run at top 4 or call it a day for this season and rebuild in the summer

Personally I believe each transfer window offers an opportunity to maintain or gain momentum even if it’s transfers out and just one or two in.

would love to know the real story behind the Summer window we signed no one as feel that essentially has led to where we are today. There was an opportunity to kick on and we didn’t take it and it killed our progress for a season and a half and that momentum will take a long time to get back.

I don't think people have realised what the new CL prize money deal means for the clubs who are in it and the ones who aren't. The money is on a different level to previous years. Bayern got more for winning our group this season than Real Madrid got for winning the whole thing in 2016.

We've made €60m already in prize/TV rights money just by getting out of our group this season. Chelsea got €73m. Liverpool and City €76m and €78m. Just for getting into the last sixteen.

https://en.onefootball.com/?-how-much-each-club-has-earned-in-the-champions-league-this-season/

The new stadium won't come close to offsetting the loss of that kind of revenue. Levy knows the importance of this competition to the future of our club. It's our only way of competing with the worldwide appeal of Liverpool and United and the financial clout of City and, to a lesser extent, Chelsea.

We have to be in it just to level the playing field a bit.
Then perhaps levy and poch should of done better in keeping the squad in the best fighting condition it could be in instead of the weak area's and mess we are in now shambles.

"or call it a day for this season"?? It's so bloody hard to get in that Top 4 and once you are out of it, it can take a looong fucken long time to get back in it. Just look at Le Arse. Or even Liverfool before Klopp. Danny boy better dust off the cobwebs from his wallet and get some proven quality defenders in next month or we'll kiss the Champions League goodbye for a while

Agreed ...just never confident in the January window due to the money required to make the necessary signings and Levy’s track record for paying close to or over the odds.

What prediction and what hatred

before the summer you said we would net spend we never.

a few posts higher you posted

All we can do us play the waiting game until they fuck off.

moaning about paying top dollar, which is usually the case for any new stadium, when Arse built theirs they charged lots more, Everton won't be in that region but will be more expensive than what they pay now.

when they set the prices they didn't know our form would drop

Lighty really don't know what your problem is mate I get that you love levy and won't here a bad word said about him but your obsession is delusional mate.
First of all if you think that 100m spend was enough then you need to check yourself because clubs like West ham, Everton, wolves and even villa spend that type of money these days it's par for the course.
Levy himself said recently that they could of spent more but didn't so that is part of the problem not addressing the squad needs and just hoping that it would go alright which is both ridiculous and short sighted.
As for me mentioning stadium prices why can't I mention that our prices are probably the most expensive but we are paying for an interior product of which is not a service in keeping with the prices charged, as for saying they didn't know our form would drop what sort of bollocks is that mate if they had looked after the squad properly in the previous window then the drop of would not have occurred.
As for this hatred thing this is all come from you because not once did I say I hated them, but instead have said I'm prepared to wait until they leave, which is a totally different proposition I suggest you place me on ignore mate become you obviously don't agree with me.

We're not getting top 4 unless the defensive errors are cut out. Us, chavs and mancs are all similar but we seem to be defensively more suspect than them.

Sort out the defence and defensive midfield, then I think we have a really good chance.

1. I don't love Levy, but I don't hate him either. has he made mistakes? YES the biggest 1 was the Saha/Nelson window. could he have spent more without put pressure on our finances, that helped get us the financial package for the stadium? who knows and considering the money that was needed to compete with Man C & Utd, Chelsea, and Liverpool while building the stadium.

even though we started to improve with Jol, then Redknapp and eventually Poch, if we hadn't had the stadium up and running our wage bill would still be what it was in the old stadium, and a very good chance Kane, Son, and a few others wouldn't be with us now

First of all if you think that 100m spend was enough then you need to check yourself because clubs like West ham, Everton, wolves and even villa spend that type of money these days it's par for the course.

2. the money Wolves and Villa made from their promotion allowed a big spend. if Villa go down it will cripple them even with their parachute payments. West Ham pay 2 bob to rent a stadium, they have no excuse to be able to spend money which hasn't helped them. Everton have had new investment and I believe the new owner isn't far behind Abramovic

Levy himself said recently that they could of spent more but didn't so that is part of the problem not addressing the squad needs and just hoping that it would go alright which is both ridiculous and short sighted.

3. Only time I've seen a statement saying we had money to spend was the summer we never. if it was about this summer just gone, then a very good chance it wasn't helped by the failure to sell Rose, Aurier, and Wanyama, because those are our weakest points. had we sold Eriksen we might have pushed harder.

4. when you mentioned the prices you mentioned about the product. the prices were set to eventually pay the stadium off without damaging what we can offer in wages, and what we do have to be able to buy players at a higher level. the prices were set well before the failed summer window.

As for this hatred thing this is all come from you because not once did I say I hated them, but instead have said I'm prepared to wait until they leave, which is a totally different proposition I suggest you place me on ignore mate become you obviously don't agree with me.

5. the little digs you make doesn't show you're too impressed with them, and if we were up for sale I'd gamble you would be counting the days down. if I knew an owner was out there that could take us up to the sky and back I would too, but considering where we were I appreciate where they have taken us.

if I put everyone I disagree with on here on ignore I'd be talking to myself:whistle:

Ha join the club, he's right thought put the guy on ignore cause you two are always clashing, you won't though because you love an argument ;)

I love a discussion and if I think someone is wrong I will put another view, and when I'm wrong I try to look at all sides and either accept defeat or continue.

you got that prediction wrong in the summer, but your hate for ENIC will never go away

well what a shock the ghost @[email protected] is alive and kicking, I thought I'd got rid of my 50% neg rator, someone that contributes so little to the forum, but then I realise he always comes out of hiding near the transfer window.

hi John (though I won't see his reply, there are some ? I will have on ignore)(y)

The concerns from dropping out the CL are real and fair I think.

It'll be much harder for us to convince the Ndombeles etc.

However, it would be a good opportunity for the club to get in touch with what made this team good a few years ago. Signing British players who have good potential, players who we started scoffing at (Brooks, Maddison, Perreira, etc).

Liverpool had to drop out the CL to really refocus their transfer strategy.

IMO we don't need to chase the big names, what we REALLY need is an excellent strategy in place. Firstly, get Lille's recruitment team and have them and Jose work together. They've got a good relationship and will understand each other. Avoids having a Mitchell/Poch situation.

Buy in january seems like the only logical solution:

1. Our current XI isn’t good enough for top 4.
2. If the players bought needs time to settle and make an impact, that would be the same for the summer - so why not do It now? At least they would be ready for next season.

I don’t buy the argument of «january is hard to do business»:

if we cannot Get players from the dutch, german, belgian league or Championship that would improve us significantly on RB, LB, CB and DM then we have a terrible scouting system.

We most likely have the worst defence in the league and top 2-3 attacking front.

Be brutal to the players not good enough and Get rid: Aurier, KWP, Sanchez, Dier.

I’d even consider sales of Verthongen, Rose and Winks.
