I think it’ll be very difficult as Chelsea and Leicester both look in great shape. It is a long season though, so who knows how pressure or fatigue will affect them at the business end of the season.

We were in the title race this time last year, but completely collapsed in the final third of the season. Chelsea or Leicester could do the same, even if they look very strong currently.

I think Leicester will remain aroun 3rd. They don't have any games in Europen cups and their team is good enough with a bit of rotation.

Long way to go but I said when Jose appointed we will need to win 20 more games to make to four. Now 18 and counting,

18 more wins? That would mean we'd finish on 74 points (assuming we didn't draw any matches either). I highly doubt we'll need that many points given our competitors.

I have a feeling the points required for top 4 will be quite low this season:

- Chelsea aren't the finished article and, while they've been on a great run, they're young and have an inexperienced manager. They're bound to drop some silly points here and there (e.g. at home to West Ham today).

- Leicester are bit of a mystery. They have a great first 11 and Rodgers has overperformed similarly before but can they keep it up? Who knows? I'd say they're more of a wildcard and could see them storming to 2nd just as likely as I could see them falling down to 6th.

- Arsenal and Man Utd? LOL

Either way, I reckon it's quite likely we'll be able to get top 4 with around 67/68 points. Hell, Man City came fourth with 66 in 15/16.

A lot of these Leceister comments have a weird deja vu about them. Not saying they will continue this form throughout but without Europe and with the good feeling around their club, can we really write them off?
I still think they can win the thing now Fabinho is injured. With the fixture congestion, it could create a domino effect of injuries for Liverpool. They aren't home and dry just yet.

And some of us forget we have played Liverscum, City, Manure, Arsenal and Leicester ALL AWAY with Manure to go away from home... we also have to play chelsea twice...

So i think our form whilst poor it also resulted from us playing so many of the teams away from home...
And others forget that we've already played the likes of Watford, Aston Villa, Southampton, Brighton, Newcastle and Everton, e.i 6 of bottom 7.
It's funny how you have to meet every single team in the league.
Two narrow wins in a row and we are rehashing this thread like there's no tomorrow.
Let us see where we are in February. Now is a time for patience.

Not sure why it is a problem for people to point that we have played 5 of our 7 away games against the best in the league.

Sometimes teams have surprisingly good or bad starts but once you see who they have played it makes sense.

We have a lot of work to do but the fact that 5 of the hardest games are behind us can only be a good thing.

The problem is that at times "useful information" becomes "skewed bullshit". We've played the best, we've played the worst, and we are where we are. Who we have played, as great or terrible as they have been, is in no way any sound argument for where we might or might not be headed. We've played shit football, and there is no honour in playing shit vs. top teams. If anything that just underlines how very bad we've been if we have to comfort ourselves with the knowledge that we've played a match vs. Arsenal.

I agree but the point i was making is not only are we still in the mix but when it comes to crunch time, as long as we are within distance, we have a good opportunity to get points off them. Also lets be honest timing is everything, we will not only have Jose for a while but his tactics taking more of an effect

i do like the patience line with your name though - kudos :)

That would be mental.

Though when you look at the margins to a lot Liverpool's victories this season, It's not going to take a huge downturn in form/luck/performances to start seeing them drop points.

2-1's vs Brighton, Villa, Palace, Us, Leicester, Southampton - 1-0 ve Sheff united.

That being said, they keep grinding out the results they need.....

They seem to have a mystical forcefield around them this season. Add in City's recent issues and I really think this is their year. Would take one almighty fuck up to lose it from this position.

If JM can sort out the defence then we have a *possibility* of joining the battle for 2nd come January. We still have to play Chelsea, Leicester and Citeh at home (and Liverpool, Arse, Everton)

Over the next month we have a mixture of quite promising fixtures and some vital tough six pointers. The Chelsea match at ours on the 22nd will be absolutely mahoooosive. Lose that one and top 4 may be off the table. Win it and we're right back in the race.

The Wolves and Utd games will also be very tasty indeed. I wonder if Jose will just send out a complete second string out to Bayern now that it's a dead rubber and we're away to Wolves 4 days later?

We've tended to flourish over xmas time in recent years. Hopefully this is no different.

'Back in the race'...we're already in the race. A win and we could be past them.

Just about but they have far easier fixtures than us until then

Us: Utd and Wolves away, Burnley at home
Chelsea: Villa and Bournemouth at home, Everton away.

If we're still only 6 points behind come the match on the 22nd we'll be doing very well indeed. In all likelihood we'll desperately need a win (or at least a draw) to stay in the fight.

Mourinho would be mad not to play a second string over in Munich. It's not as if our second string is bad anyway.

Yeah you're right. Bayern will probably play their 2nd string too so I doubt we'd get too much of a hiding, plus we have plenty of players who need minutes.

Oh I agree about fixtures. Just not the fact we need to win to be in the race. It's 6 points, its December, it's nothing.

Sky sports heads would explode over which club to arse lick more but at least we could definitively say the whole country would be with Leicester
