Perhaps someone here with more insight into how football player contracts work, can answer the following:
Is there a reason why someone in Eriksen's position wouldn't sign, let's say a three year contract, even if he's likely to leave next summer?
Let's say that contract makes him one of the highest paid players at the club. It also stipulates, he'd be compensated for any sign-on fee he would've received, if he had left for free. And lastly, the contract included a clause, that stipulates, should one of the following clubs (Barca, Real, Juve, Bayern, PSG), make a bid of 45-50M, it'll automatically trigger his release.
Wouldn't that be a win-win for everyone involved?
Versus walking away next summer for free, and leaving a very bad taste in everyone's mouth. Not to mention, he'd likely see his role and participation diminished over the season, as that sorta thing doesn't sit well with Poch.
Curious if anyone genuinely knows the rationale behind NOT doing the above?
