Just a thought, didn’t JJ say Toby would only be signing a new contract if Poch is not here?

Coincidence that there has been news about Toby signing a new contract?

Fingers crossed that Tobys professionalism has built a bridge.

Poch has not fallen out with Levy. Far from it.

Poch has not lost the dressing room. There has been some difference of opinion apparently but Poch always valued strong opinions, especially from senior pros. Kane spends countless hours in Poch's office discussing tactics. Jan is probably the most vocal member of the squad. Poch has never had issue with this.

NOW> Opinion.

Poch has seemed distracted for some months now, probably going back to February. I don't know why. He is clearly deeply rooted in our club and he feels that this is his project, his baby. So to say he doesn't care or has moved on emotionally/mentally is wrong. But something is up. I remember seeing him the day after the CL Final and he was visibly upset. Not just for himself but for the club, for his players, for the fans. But at the same time we have seen elements of Poch we don't like going all the way back to him losing it at Burnley, his comments about maybe leaving if we win the CL, his negative attitude towards the transfer window etc. It's not the Poch we know and it's not doing him or us any favours. DL went out on a limb and secured the players he wanted this summer, almost bagging Dybala in the process. So there can't be any doubt that he has been backed, or that the DL/MP partnership has deteriorated in any way. I don't know what's going on, I don't know MP and I don't know his family, I don't know most of the players. I just hope that whatever is going on, he can get back on the horse and lead us back to the form we showed in 2016/2017/2018 because really, one CL run aside, 2019 has been miserable.

No one knows what is happening.

No one knows what is happening.

There is a lot of danger out there, ok?

Off the top of my head, without having to spend more than a moment to organise my thoughts, the two points that first come to mind are:

1) I think the decision to sell Walker with 4 years left on his contract (and to not successfully insist on getting Jaden Sancho in part-exchange if we accept the idea - which I'm not convinced of - that we absolutely had no choice but to sell him) was poor, and I think that every player who has played in his position since has been a substantial downgrade

2) I think that we've been negligent in placing as much reliance on Eriksen to be the sole creative engine in our team as we have for several years, to the point where he has been played every week without rest or competition for his place and his form - and our form as a team - has suffered as a result.

They're the two biggies for me: I have more thoughts on why I think the squad has been on the decline prior to this summer's signings, but I'm already on my fourth paragraph of a post I intended to knock out in 30 seconds and it's a bit late in the evening for me to go fully into where I think the problems were/are, so I'll cry off with just those two for now.

To note:

1) Walker is strangely the subject of odd romanticism. He name was and still is regularly associated with the word 'brainfart', and I'm not buying the 'substantial downgrade' bit.
Since 2013/14 until he left, he had 10 PL assists and 2 goals in 107 PL games.
From 2016/17 until he left, Trippier had 13 PL assists and 1 goal in 63 games.
Trippier had a "bad" season last season, but there's a reason he nabbed Walker's RB spot for the national team.
2) I don't see how that's on topic with the suggestion that we've regressed as a team.

That's before you take into account that we've added a lot of quality in the last few years. It's exactly as Poch explained, that we started waiting for good players rather than signing any old plodder.

I can't agree with any implication that signings like Son, Sanchez, NDombele, Moura and Lo Celso (leaving Sissoko out, as unsure whether he's a good example) are somehow a symbol of squad regression. Beyond Kyle Walker, we've pretty much only sold either plodders or, unfortunately, crocked players.

This is my exact thinking I'm hoping it's all ironed out and they're friends again but this seems like levy going behind pochs back to sign Toby up

Feel like Poch is suffering a bit of burn out, I don't think he needs to walk away, I reckon a few honest conversations from Levy and the players will get him to emotionally overcome his current melancholy. This season won't take it's toll like the last.

Let’s hope this isn’t another Martin Jol scenario, there’s clearly smoke just hoping the fire is put out at The Emirates on Sunday before it gets out of control.

It’s all a bit odd with this news breaking too and mourinho being at the game Sunday for no reason at all

our announcer said something about him being there on behalf of Sky. I don't think Daniel would invite Mourinho if a palace coup was in the offing.
