I really hate to do this but I'm still pretty pissed off about our performance or lack thereof....

Woeful all round, something's definitely up.

Thought Rose, Sanchez, Winks and Sissoko were the main culprits today.

I know he has his flaws but, going forward, I really wouldn't mind seeing Dier back in the team at CDM (and creating a back three out of possession), with a few attacking players ahead of him.

Think Dier, Lo Celso and Ndombele could be a pretty creative middle three. The Sissoko-Winks experiment has failed, neither of them offer enough defensive stability or creativity, especially in these types of games (and I'm a big Winks fan(.

Lloris: 6 - left exposed for their goal; good save from Longstaff; feel like he made another good stop later on(?)

KWP: 4 - lost the ball time and time again; can’t beat a man - not sure he’s the answer (but I’m worried the solution is Aurier :ROFLMAO:)

Alderweireld: 6 - fine, kept things simple and cleared up where necessary

Sanchez: 4 - awful positioning for the goal and lucky to get away with that Muto challenge late on - worried about his lack of progress

Rose: 6 - should have sensed danger earlier for their goal but often looked our most dangerous outlet

Sissoko: 5 - average

Winks: 4.5 - slightly worse than average

Lucas: 5 - poor game, mis-hit changes and then blazed a sitter over

Lamela: 5 - energetic as always but just didn’t do enough to get others in the game

Son: 6 - lacking fitness but at least tried to make things happen - getting him match-fit asap is vital

Kane: 4 - not sure he did a single thing well today, and culminated in fluffing that late chance

Subs:
Eriksen: 6 - better once he came on - moved the ball well, and quicker. Sort his future out now, pleassssee
GLC: 6 - didn’t do much but looked tidy - broke through their defence with his pass to Kane which should have resulted in a penalty
Davies: chasing a game and we have to bring on Ben - says it all.

Hard to pick out any positives in that.
I thought Sissoko was a reasonable right back.
Alderweireld was solid, given the players around him for most the game.
Eriksen sped the game up, and was the most creative.
Rose battled, but had maybe just 1 reasonable cross.

I guess given the circumstances, Eriksen showed an unexpected interest in the game, when he was probably quite distracted by his situation. Is that enough for Motm?

MP - zero. Poorly motivated side, badly set up. He needs to pull his finger out, as this is not a charity as he acknowledges himself.

I don’t really know what to say as I don’t think there’s much constructive to say. No press, no imagination, no movement, no energy. No excuses.

Lloris 6 - One thing to do but little chance to stop it.
KWP 6 - Needs to hug the touch line and be prepared to take his man on for pace on the outside and whip in first time crosses. Far too cautious in possession.
Toby 6 - Slow, slow, passing.
Sanchez 4 - Slow, slow, passing. Bad, bad positioning. Seems to want to wrestle rather than intercept. Terrible today and should be dropped for Jan.
Rose 4 - Culpable of their goal (along with Sanchez). Offers little defensively and in the final third is very wasteful. His determination and drive is usually good though.
Winks 4 - Not a DCM (positioning is so poor). Drops deep to get the ball off the CBs and just passes it to the FBs. No point in him at all when he plays so ponderously and deep.
Sissoko 5 - Shouldn't play against teams who will defend as he is far too cautious in possession.
Lamela 5 - Just slows down everything by taking too many touches when he gets the ball. At least he cares and puts his foot in.
Son 6 - Just about the best of our forwards thru effort alone but looked rusty.
Moura 5 - Missed a sitter. Became guilty of standing next to their CBs waiting to try and win a header.
Kane 4 - Fluffed a sitter and didn't offer any movement all agme. To be fair our full backs never cross it first time so he has stopped getting across his defender and waits tosee when they will cross it. But still, very poor in terms of effort and performance by his own high standards

Eriksen 7 - Passing massively improved when he came on. Unfortunately the movement didn't.
Lo Celso 6 - Hard for him to get into the game

Poch 2 - Picked the same under perfroming team and system that has failed in the first three games. Winks and Sissoko do not make a good midfield pairing as shown by the fact we've lost more league games (11) than we've won (10) since injuries forced this pairing on him back in January). But Dier is fit now, and we've spent a lot of money on Ndombele and Lo Celso.

Mike Dean 1 - Worst ref in the league. That was a nailed on penalty on Kane and I'd love to know the reasoning as to why the VAR review did not over rule it.

Way forward - Return to 4-2-3-1. Play a DCM in DCM. Drop any forwards / AMs who do not put effort in to press from the front collectively and make runs behind.

Lloris
KWP Toby Verts Davies
Dier Ndombele
Lo Celso Eriksen Dele
Kane

Subs: Gazza, Sanchez, Rose, Winks, Sissoko, Moura, Son

Lloris: 6 - Cannot be blamed for the goal, not much else to do.

KWP: 4 - Awful

Alderweireld: 7 - did most things right, as usual

Sanchez: 3 - piss poor

Rose: 4 - not at the races today

Sissoko: 5 - reverting back to first season Sissoko

Winks: 4 - poor today

Lucas: 5 - bad misses, not contributing with runs or passing.

Lamela: 5 - tried as always but didn't come off.

Son: 3 - useless

Kane: 3 - don't know why he thinks it's a good idea to pretend to be a statue these days as a striker. But it looks like he does.

Subs:

Eriksen: 5 - did nothing,
GLC: 5 - did very little
Davies: Pointless sub.

Honestly don’t think any deserve over 5, the game against villa was different we created loads of chances and we deserved to win in the end. Today I don’t think you can say Newcastle didn’t deserve to get anything from the game

Said it for months and been hounded on here.

Sanchez is not good enough for a team that aspires to "challenge for the title".

He is abysmal at the following:

Passing the ball
Controlling the ball
Heading/clearing the ball
Defending 1 v 1

All attributes that are needed for the way we play.

And then the stupid foul throwing the Newcaslte player to the ground at the end when all he had to do was shepherd him out.

He's fucking shite.

Not to say any of the others were any better but I have no idea how he gets picked over Jan.

Seems we have found our season's scapegoat...

Put Eriksen on for Winks for that whole game and we would still be pedestrian, lethargic, lacking movement, touch, creativity and passing side to side slowly.

If you think it's as simple as one guy passing a few balls sideways (which pretty much every player did today) then wait to see if GLC and Ndombele improve our style against teams sitting deep/narrow...

Also Sanchez is a decent RCB, he's not fit to lace Jan's boots at LCB.

Sorry but we just haven’t really kicked on from when Poch first took over.

Look at the first team.

Rose is no better than he was in Poch’s first season. We literally left him at home during preseason to find a different club.

Sanchez is not an upgrade on Jan. He’s not a good defender and not a good ball player. Literally couldn’t read a ball in the air if his life depended on it.

We’ve never adequately replaced Walker, Aurier / Trippier / KWP haven’t been the answer.

Winks and Sissoko are decent cover but should never be our starters. Winks really doesn’t feel particularly good at anything and all Sissoko has going for him is his physicality - people don’t need to worry about covering him as he literally can’t do anything with the ball.

Lamela’s not progressed, Moura’s hot and cold.

I get Dele and Tanguy are injured and Son’s just back but it’s not a great squad is it?

Doesn’t help that our manager is stubborn and won’t pick his best team available to him simply to make a point. He also has no solution for teams that sit 10/11 players behind the ball and congest the middle. Time and again it’s happened.

Look at our league form since the start of the year - it’s fucking awful.

Toby is fine, Hugo did nothing wrong. Others....

But today is more about the wrong tactics/selection. And also ndombele is already too important for us

Poor all round only reason sissoko got a 6 is because he did more than our real right.back in far less time there. Lloris at least made one pretty good save. 2019 Prem form is pretty awful can only get better I guess or Poch will be gone if it doesn't.
