Naturally I did a Google search after reading that tweet, and gee fucking whiz, not only will we be improving on the pitch if we sign him, but we'll be significantly upping our WAG game too. That's worth at least a few points, right?

I’m probably old skool like you. I always thought you weren’t allowed to speak to a player until a fee had been agreed. I think it was a gentleman’s agreement between clubs. Same thing regarding transfer requests. If a player put in a request, especially after he received his loyalty bonus, then he wouldn’t play for the club again. Times have changed I guess.
Social media, mobile comms, 24 hour news and high profile agents kind of make these old school formal arrangements redundant now. That said I’m not sure it was always so gentlemanly and above board. Tales of Cloughie turning up at players’ front doors etc
