I do wonder if a renewal is completely off the table or it's more a case of him/his advisors really pushing hard for the Madrid move, which is understandable.

Zidane is the X Factor in all this for me. Most reports say he's not interested.

Think Madrid will offer a low-ish fee and include sending a player to us ( Ceballos most likely).

a lot can happen in a year. if madrid want him they will buy him this summer at their price Eriksen would be a fool to accept their assurances they will take him next year.

I’d be happy with 40mil.

Partially to get the Eriksen contract saga finished, and partially because I think he’s cooked. I’m not sure he will regain his best form.

i think it would be good business for us if we can get asensio and ceballos by offering eriksen+cash
but it will probably be another isco saga :(

refusing to sign any new deal if Real doesnt come off is the worsed situation possible
Levy by going reportedly going to Madrid is showing the desperate need to offload
Chances of Toby and CE leaving next year on frees grows - not a good position to be in

Tend to agree, however, I feel they would also not let a Spanish u21 international leave either. And Ceballos is less likely to want a move at his age.

1) Eriksen says he wants Madrid and only Madrid (or Barca as some reports). He may be open to a new contract and staying if no offer materialises.
2) Levy phones Madrid to offer them Eriksen to resolve this one way or the other

Options
A) Madrid decline to offer - gives Levy opportunity to say ‘they don’t want you’ and Eriksen May sign new contract
B) Madrid offer and then it’s just a negotiation on fees/players etc
C) Madrid don’t offer but Eriksen doesn’t sign - then I guess it’s his perogative to do this and see what happens next Jan/Summer.

I think Levy has done the right thing and the only thing he can do to try and resolve the situation

I found it weird that he had all the leverage with the contract and seemingly threw it away by offering to sign a new one.

Maybe he was just being honest. He can go back on it though can’t he.

Eriksen staying with an extended contract would be brilliant news even if some feel he isn’t world class or that Madrid fans would be on his back, the fact is he has made a significant contribution to the team we have become under Poch. We would struggle to fill the void for sure.
As you say we’d struggle to fill a void with a ready made replacement. Hence we’d simply adapt the way we play. Presents another opportunity to perhaps improve and means opponents are less able to prepare effectively when playing against us. The kind of investments we seem to be going for suggests just that ??.

It’s all ifs and buts... the most plausible solution is a part ex of Ceballos plus £20-30m. Asensio, no chance as he’s arguably going to cost more than Eriksen and it will be a lot harder to convince him to come to us.

With the funds received in addition to Ceballos it can be used towards bringing in a decent right back. Adding Lo Celso too would be brilliant (considering he wasn’t deemed as being reliant on the sale of Eriksen).

What if Eriksen does not sign, RM do not bid on him, we sign ND and LC, do we let Eriksen go play golf for 6moths to a year rather than play him ?
Or can he actually buy out the last year of his contract ?

Don’t think we can afford to sign ND and LC and let eriksen sit on his ass for a season . Levy will self combust

Why on earth would we do that?
