What do people think of the Cardiff keeper , Etheridge. When I have seen him, he has played well behind a weak defence. Dominates his box and good shot stopper. He has certainly had plenty of opportunity to show what he can do this season!!! Wouldn't mind him in as future successor to Hugo

They called Gazzaniga, Sanchez and Llorente before anyone else. The Sun is a scummy newspaper but there's no doubt they have a decent record with regards to our transfers.

Probably have an agent on here scouring our threads for these leads. :cautious:

Whoever you are (yankspurs) we know what you're doing and you'll be dealt with accordingly.

'Young and on the up' wins nothing though

Every squad needs an experienced winner. We have no one. Bale won 4 Champions League. That experience in a team like ours is invaluable.
Huh? We have 2 World Cup winners in our squad. 1 of them was captain.

Vertonghen, Alderweireld, Aurier, Wanyama, Lucas, Eriksen and Llorente have all won multiple league titles at previous clubs. It's only since coming to Spurs that their trophy hauls have dried up.

Ajax have been showing the world what a young and on the up team can do. One trophy won, a league title likely and a genuine chance of winning the Champions League.

Plus, the best, most consistently high quality, football we've played in my lifetime has been when we had a young and on the up team. It took a fluky record breaking winning streak for Chelsea to stop us winning the league a couple of seasons ago. A slow start and a concerted effort from the whole of the Premier League to get Leicester to be champions ahead of us the season before.

Is he homegrown, if so I’d take him for 2/3 choice

The Lo Celso link is exciting. He’s kind of done a Dembele in that his position has become progressively deeper, but he’s not sacrificed the goals in his game.

Put him with either Winks or Sissoko (or both ?) and you have a very good midfield.

Mentioned him in the beginning of the thread, had his work cut out for him this season and still put in some solid performances for Cardiff. Perfect fit to challenge Gazza and he's Home grown, shouldn't cost an arm and a leg either.

My feeling is that chasing Martial is a fool’s errand. It didn’t get us anywhere last year when it was obvious Mourinho didn’t even rate him. Since then he’s signed a new contract and while his stock has fallen again, I think Utd would want money beyond what we’d offer
According to the Sun, Ole Gunnar has a problem with Martial's attitude in training. Can't see Poch going for a player like that, if true. When Poch arrived , the poor trainers / those who didn't like the training approach were out pretty quickly

Sissoko, Winks, Lo Celso and Berge and our CM is sorted for the next year or two. Get in some Full Backs and we are looking good.

Lo Celso
Berge
Grimaldo
Tierney
Brooks
.
Sorted, then we can get some young players or free transfers for cover, If we can promote from the youth team that's first choice.

Not sure if he’d ever succeed Hugo, I’d suggest Gazzaniga is more likely due to his age, but I did suggest Etheridge a while back as a great option for one of our GK reserves. Premiership proven, HG and very capable. Only qualm is, I think he could be a starter at a number of premier league clubs.

He’s 29 though so doesn’t really make sense as a future successor imo. Would rather have Gazzaniga as the future successor in that case.

If we could get Bale for 30/40m, would you accept him??

News is Zidane told him he won't be playing next season (same with Dani Ceballos)
The problem is that you've plucked that figure from thin air.

N'Koudou out, Martial in, and even if that was the singular piece of business the squad would be infinitely better.

If - I repeat IF - Man Utd wanna sell Martial then it's down to lack of proper attitude and not footballing matters. He just signed a new contract (until 2024)....

This happens so often. Like when people call Tom Heaton 'a good young keeper' even though he's 33. The worst thing is that pundits do it as well.

Lo Celso has played at CAM a lot this season - would he be more of an Eriksen replacement than a Dembele replcaement?

I would think that, after this season’s stretched circumstances, if we really need to compete then we need 5 senior CMs, so would prefer we kept either Dier or Wanyama. Additionally, that would Be four non HG slots taken up, so I think it likely we’d sign only one non HG midfielder. That’s me hypothesising, but Pochettino’s disenchantment earlier this season when discussing Foyths lack of CL inclusion suggests we will look to make amends this summer.

He can play both roles extremely well, but I would personally play him from deep with the license to roam forward if the midfield is open and we don't need two men covering the back 4.

There is going to be an issue with all possible signings this season. Too young, too unproven, too expensive, etc. The thing is to buy the player with the issue you can live with or hopefully sort out.

HG quota will be a slight problem only if we do not move out our non HG deadwood.

VJ, Wanyama (I can see Poch keeping Dier instead of Vic) GKN, Vorm, Fernando to name a few are non HG that should be moved in the next window.

I wouldn't worry about HG as much if these players leave.

If we were as close to getting Martial as ITK said I think he is a gamble worth taking. Then we wont need a kane back up. Issue is can Son be just as effective from the right as he is on the left? He seems to be at his best from the left like Martial. Unless we play martial in a 2 with kane

He may have signed a new contract but for him to be dropped from squad without a reported injury means stock has fallen. Plus if they genuinely think he has an attitude problem they wouldn't be so adverse to selling to us. Then it's down to Poch to work his magic on him

Yeah I really like him. He's not really the typical La Liga CM either. He's quite pacy and you can him beating a man and carry the ball high up the pitch by simply sprinting past the opposition. + He has that south american silky touch. (...yeah I'm still talking about fotball here)

Would be very interesting to see him in the prem and even if don't manage to sign him I'm encouraged that we're targeting players of his ilk.
