Poor decision from Vertonghen to attempt a shot when he’s stretching and being closed down.
Done it about 3 times. Sends a telgram of what he's going to do. Kind of the opposite of zero back lift lol.

I think we'll get an early goal this half.

Tough against a team that has well and truly parked the bus, but I don't think we've been patient enough at times and tried to earn the openings.

Not really getting what the front three are doing in particular. I can understand getting Son/Moura on either flank away from the packed centre of the park, nice to see us trying it actually, but from there both of them are doing.... well, very little tbh. Not making any threatening runs off the flank towards the box (like you'd see from Sterling for instance), just holding it, not really taking on their men with much purpose, and all too often now dropping in front of Brighton's defensive lines to pick up the ball, which isn't what is needed. Llorente hasn't been great so far but is trying to lead the line and is up against a minimum of three players each time.

Surprised we haven't at least tried Son/Moura to come infield and get in and around Llorente (with Alli bursting through too), and fullbacks overlapping. It might not work against a packed defence, but have to keep varying the attack and trying things out in these sorts of games.

They're set up to not get a fucking tanking here, of course it's going to be hard, they've at least 9 men behind the ball all the fucking time.

Frustrating as expected. Brighton sitting so deep it's ridiculous, literally letting our CBs have it 30 yards out. Need to up the pace in the 2nd half, should start carving out some more chances.

Brighton were barely playing football that half.

Focusing on the positives, we haven't expelled any energy keeping us fit for Ajax.

I’m confused, did some of you genuinely think Brighton were going to come here and go all out all guns blazing?! If so why???

I love Dele but his slowing down of the game is frustrating at times, takes all the pace and tempo out of our attacks. No one looking to break the lines, games like this we really miss Dembele and his ability to drive and take 2 or 3 players out of position

Son and Lucas should be running at them IN the penalty box, try and draw a challenge for a pen perhaps, no point getting there then passing it all the way back out to the FB!

My biggest worry is when Verts and Toby get sucked up into the attack at the same time. Twice ricochets have put them in space and us scrambling to defend.

Predictable first half. We created just about enough to deserve a goal and would've had one if Dunk and Duffy hadn't decided to sort their shit out after a few months of pretending to be defenders. They look like the reality of relegation has finally sunk in and they're defending as if their lives depend on it.

Bastards.

Always difficult when the opponent parks all 11 men behind the ball but it's all the worse when their antics are aided and abetted by the referee.

Half-dozen bookable offenses in that half, including two by the same player, and only one yellow card shown.

Absolutely blatant obstruction with no pretense whatsoever of having any intention to play the ball with Son making a run in the box, ref turns a blind eye.

Time wasting from the moment the ball was first kicked, no booking and one fucking minute added on. Ryan spent a minute on water breaks alone.

The ref is a fucking coward who is afraid to apply the laws of the game to the plucky relegation contender who is cynically and knowingly violating them at every possible opportunity. He's completely and utterly bereft of integrity.
