Oh yeah I agree. We should have done something about the midfielder situation in the summer, at least. It has been an issue for at least a year and has become a major weak spot. However I think the club's thought process will be that we should have enough to make CL qualification even if we pick up a couple injuries along the way. We have a 7 point start after all with nearly two thirds of the season gone. Son coming back is relevant because he consistently scores goals.
Going for just CL qualification is getting old though. That was basically Arsenal's approach and eventually you become stagnant. We're more likely to keep getting it if we buy players in the hope of winning the title, even if we fall short of doing that (what's that famous bill nic quote again...?).

As it is, we're likely losing two of our best players in the summer. So instead of needing maybe 2-3 players to properly challenge for the title and cups, we'll need 5, maybe 6, high quality players. I don't see the club doing that, which means we probably won't challenge next season either. That's why you need to use the transfer windows appropriately, it's as much about getting good players in as it is about integrating them into the team properly. I'm actually happy for the club to give the youth a shot, but it seems as though poch is somewhat adverse to doing that too, considering the plights of KWP, Onomah, and Sterling, amongst others over the past few seasons, despite a growing injury list and players being out of form.

Fuck this is dull. Thrashing my bollocks in the cellar door is currently more appealing than this.

Be nice if some of you selfish prickweasles could elevate the quality of your jokes to make things more interesting for me

Did my eyes deceive me when he nodded in a smart header into the far corner last night? Did they do the same when he scored a difficult header against Chelsea? Or when he linked up with Eriksen and Son last night?

Couple of good moments doth not a striker make.

He’s passed it. It’s blinding obvious.

Win the title and increase our value even more. Problem with that is, get too valuable and ENIC wont be able to sell as we’d be too expensive and selling up is their main goal. Levy is perfectly happy where we are.

I have to say that if Batshit was still all that then he could still be used by that lot. After all they were/are just as desperate as us.

I must have missed all this ... Who knew? Hopefully they (the transfer committee) realise the error of their ways and sort this.

I’m not sure why the idea of signing another striker is so outlandish to you. Unless you don’t really have a strong opinion either way and are just enjoying the attention, in which case, crack on.

I think signing another striker would be a great idea, I don't think taking a Chelsea failure is the way to improve us is all, that's just my onion obviously.

Attention is never good, the tallest blade of grass is the surest to be cut.

He has still secured us points. I don't care if he has a terrible 89 minutes if he scores a last minute winner.

Indeed. We also tend to forget that Kane have had spells where he's been off his game but still scores important goals.

Did anyone hear Shearer on MOTD last night saying that we need a quality second striker. JJ agreed saying yes we do but didn't ask him who we could get that would be happy being HK's back up.

Absolutely. I think the point about integrating players is especially important. Despite our league position I do think we are going though a period of managed decline as I have posted elsewhere. As you rightly point out we will probably need 5-6 high quality players to replenish our squad in the summer and as we have seen before trying to integrate that many new players into a squad at one time can be extremely problematic. Not that I expect us to go and buy 5 or 6 top quality players of course. So I agree that at least 1 or 2 signings every/most windows seems like a much more pragmatic approach than going consecutive windows not signing anybody even if the team is doing ok.

And that right there is the problem. How many are going to sign knowing that it's very unlikely they will play every week? Only those blatantly after the money. Batshuayi wants to play, I doubt he'd join knowing once Kane is back he'll be dropped to the bench whether he's scoring for fun or not.
