We don't need to buy a player in son's position though. We sold our best midfielder and our best striker is injured for the next month and a bit. I don't understand their thought process. What happens if/when Winks or Sissoko actually get injured for a month because they've played basically every match this season? Are we going to rely on an 18 year old who's talented but not quite ready yet? It's just poor management: "let's hope the problems go away by themselves" instead of fixing them.

Oh yeah I agree. We should have done something about the midfielder situation in the summer, at least. It has been an issue for at least a year and has become a major weak spot. However I think the club's thought process will be that we should have enough to make CL qualification even if we pick up a couple injuries along the way. We have a 7 point start after all with nearly two thirds of the season gone. Son coming back is relevant because he consistently scores goals.

The reality of the January transfer window is, that by deadline day, there isn't much season left when you're out of the cups.

I know we all want signings, but we have the depth to compete in the premier league and in the last few CL matches.

Really all I want for today is to let some dead weight go to the clubs that need players (or N'Koudou) for depth, and clear up some foreign roster room for the summer.
Sorry to disagree, but if players were available then January is an ideal time for new signings to have some time to acclimatise to the squad and tactics without expectations to come straight into the starting 11. Then come the summer they will have a full preseason with us (instead of missing our preseason and arriving not to our fitness/standards), ready to start the new season with a bang.

Yes we don't have as many games left of the season now we are out of the cups, but still we should always have an eye to the future when it comes to player recruitment, not just what's happening short-term

It counted for a lot in the long term, didn't it?
If I scored the goal to win the league I'd live off it for the rest of my days, nothing would take that away. Let's be honest, since Costa Chelsea have had issues with having faith in strikers, so much so until Higuain they used Hazard up top. Can't blame him for wanting to go look elsewhere, either temporarily or permanently to prove himself. Strikers need a run of games and are generally confidence based players. See Soldado, Janssen, Llorente just to start with.

Why would Spurs do Chelsea a favor and babysit that turd? ...

I understand people wanting to do something in this market .... But Batshuyai? ...

Is it such a bad idea? We currently have one fit striker, and his name is Fernando Llorente. If you haven't been watching us lately, I regret to inform you that he's a bit shit now.

It's crazy how we've managed to get away with it really. Sissoko coming out of nowhere to be a valuable player, Winks getting his fitness and consistency back. Could have been a disaster without those.

That said I still think it's a bit of an issue. I feel we are still conceding too many goals for the quality of our CBs, which does bring CM and FBs into the spotlight.

Did my eyes deceive me when he nodded in a smart header into the far corner last night? Did they do the same when he scored a difficult header against Chelsea? Or when he linked up with Eriksen and Son last night?

I'd also add that since we rarely sign anyone before the very last knockings, we're well into the season and it's even harder for new players to integrate in the new season.

I must have missed all this ... Who knew? Hopefully they (the transfer committee) realise the error of their ways and sort this.
