Poch just explained that he told me Kyle Walker-Peters wasn't ready last Saturday because he didn't want to put too much pressure on him.

Also said he'd already decided at that point that he was 99% sure that Walker-Peters would start at Newcastle. Fair enough.

Brilliant man management by Poch

No wonder Poch has such a good record of bringing youngsters through.

Their backline condensed even more once Shelvey went off as they parked the bus hoping to hang on to 0-0. Both goals came from intricate, accurate passing around their penalty area rather than any individual getting space to do something.

Not sure I understand your point, them losing a player in midfield by definition gives us more space to operate there. There's a reason none of our intricate passing came off before the sending off and then suddenly it worked wonders. We won't get that sort of gift every week and we have to find a way of getting round it, for me that's making more use of a back 3 and high wingbacks.

Fairly patronising post. I'm kind of taking the piss and have seen him play plenty.

I love his attitude and effort. Lovely eloquent boy on camera too. That's all you want

No expectation, and he gave away a silly penalty that was saved by an offside flag as I said at the time, but plenty to work with and on

Not really sure why so many people are so adverse to piling expectation on him tho. We're never short of doing that to others who've looked far less impressive
No way that was a foul.

Brain is more important than having pace just look at full backs over the years like lahm zabaleta GN and many more and it seems he has a brain and he's certainly not slow
Pace is pretty important if we're going to play wingbacks. But at least he knows how and where to pass a ball.

My only concern about KWP is that he didn't seem to have as much pace as I had expected. Maybe he was playing within himself, but there were a couple of times when Eriksen showed more pace when closing people down in our RB area.

Think he's still getting himself orientated. When he gets his bearings he'll optimise.

At youth level he has shown better pace, more willing to take players on, and good execution in the attacking third.
I imagine he was probably trying to remain disciplined. Debut is all about doing the basics well, no mistakes. The next level of performances when going forward, will likely come with extra confidence.

After the sending off Newcastle stopped trying to attack, so while they had one player less they were condensed into a smaller area of the pitch because they were more interested in trying to hold on for a draw. So yeah, we had acres of space in our own half because all the Newcastle players were camped in their defensive third of the pitch.

That was clearly a dive by Gayle, but as it was offside it's irrelevant.

Rafa Benitez feels that Harry Kane's 'tackle from behind' was worse than Shelvey's moment that got him sent off.

This doesn't surprise me at all. I nearly felt sorry for him during his spell at Chelsea where he got shed loads of stick from their fans but then he says stuff like this and it reminds me why I hated him at one point more than almost any other manager. He never praises the other team ever and the whole 'FACT' shite with SAF was just cringeworthy. He is a **** and saying that shit just confirms it. ****.

****.

We shouldn't analyse too much. Simply a nice and steady 2-0 win away from home at a ground we've struggled at historically. Whilst Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea all conceded three goals, we've kept a clean sheet and won away. Nice start to the season, business as usual. Well done Poch and the team. Next up Chelsea minus Cahill and Fabregas who are suspended. Opportunity for a great start to the season if we beat them!

Not to pick nits but Lahm actually did have pace, all the way until he retired. but yes, he was always more brain than pace.

Called it. And some bastard had the nerve to give me a creative rating.

I wouldn't say that he's dismissed him exactly. But IF KWP is going to play against Newcastle it's probably better that it's a surprise inclusion. If KWP thinks he's starting next week, the kid probably won't get a single decent nights sleep all week.

If Poch is thinking KWP will fill in at RB he might also be thinking that the later KWP knows about it, the better

Genuinely whatever. You say one thing, you get a load of people piling in; you say another, the other half pile in. This forum is going the way of Brexit, two sides that aren't listening to each other

I didn't say it was a foul, I said it was a penalty. They're not mutually exclusive. If the flag doesn't go up, they get that in my opinion. And like all my other posts I'm sure I'll get a few agrees and a few disagrees. And I don't really care

Hope this season gets better, on the pitch and in here

And no Costa or Matic, four players who did the business against us in games last year.
