@Archibald&Crooks - You guys don't normally give cryptic for a player leaving. Is there a particular reason why this is cryptic? Surely a player sale would be better leaked so we can drive the price up (if we want it to happen)?

Because this thread was dead (slow at least). There is no better way to get people posting than to chuck in a cryptic.

It's a few transfer windows ago but the source convinced us it was true. Just using it to illustrate the point that "Levy would never sell" isn't accurate :-(

Levy needs a serious fucking word with himself if this is true then.

So say summer 2015, after his 'one season wonder' campaign maybe?

I'm hoping the way the club has progressed since then, two title chases, verge of really competing at the top table, will have hardened Levy's resolve considerably. I hope :nailbiting:

Last year seemed a turning point, Poch's new deal, ridiculous Sissoko deal to back Poch, endless contracts. Guess time will tell. Looooong summer ahead...

Presumably then Levy thought Kane may have been a one season wonder and saw a good chance to make £50m ish profit on an academy player.

Have to say, selling to rivals is small time imo. Arsenal started doing it and have gone backwards ever since.

How much would he cost though? £60m? £70m? If they paid that much you'd like to think that we could find a suitable replacement quite easily. You could probably get a CB and a DM for that money.

I still can't see it happening though.

Possibly selling starting XI players to rivals, thought we had left this rubbish behind.

Transfer windows.

Plus the info saying they will not be held to ransom, I'd imagine things would have to get very ugly for this to even get close to happening. The sooner they get Fabinho or Matic the better IMHO.

As for finding a replacement easily, there's a reason why Kane broke through, it's not easy at all.

Levy would've sold Kane when they wanted him but Kane wanted to stay.
I don't believe that. Levy has stated that his ambition is to win the Premier League, he isn't going to do that by selling the best players, neither will he fill a 61000 seat stadium by selling the best players. Levy isn't stupid, he knows all that.

He did say it was a while ago, and he is privy to a hell of a lot more information than you or I.

We've been here before though, haven't we? The money and potential transfers are worth less than the player they are replacing.

I know Dier and Walker are hardly Bale, Modric etc, but we have a habit of selling players ( for whatever reason) and replacing them with inferior copies.

The money is useless unless we spend it wisely and often when we've spend big money generated this way it's been poorly spent.

If you are right how have we managed 3rd and 2nd in the last two seasons ?

I'm so tired of the argument "with that much money we could buy several players to replace X with". It's rare that a club sell a first teamer and end up improved after spending the money.

It's maybe boring but I'd much rather we just keep our players. I know you probably want that to and try look at the bright side, but that argument keep popping up every so often and it mostly never end up like that.

If Dier goes to Yanited, I reckon Dele would follow after one or two more seasons with us.
That's assuming his progression curve continues ... The Mancs will offer mucho dosh and his mate will be there.
For the record - I would not be happy to see Dier go there... :stop:

Must admit when we beat the goons 2-0, and the cameras showed Dier walking off, he had the face of someone that had just lost 2-0 to its arch rivals, just my onions :(
Just thinking how shit his win bonus was going to be?

Er because we haven't sold key players in a while and have been slowly building.

Selling Dier and Walker to title rivals won't see us become a mid table team, but it will have an effect and also signal to other clubs that we're easy pickings.

There's no point in keeping unhappy players. To be honest, Poch buying Wanyama for his spot after the season Dier had just had, must have had some effect. ED doesn't really look happy or, imho, very accomplished as a CB. I don't like selling him to Manure any more than the rest of you, but if we got a shedload of money and Fosu-Mensah, who really could be special, thrown in, I think we'd be ok.

That would have been 2015. In the two years since we've challenged for the title and cemented top four. We've got a young dynamic group of players whereas back then we were still in a rebuilding mode as a lot of AvB/Redknapp players were still at the club. Now this is definitely Poch's squad and he has also gathered the faith from Levy no other manager really had got before. We'll only sell players on our terms and that will involve Poch in the decision making process.

I know what your saying, but it almost feels like we've already replaced him with VW in midfield so if we had £60m to find a replacement CB.......

I know it's not that simple though.

On top of that for 60-70m the United fans would want a perceived superstar. Fraught with danger for United.
