But he didn't and we knew he wasn't going to come.
Dawson loved it here and would have been very happy to just be a 4th choice , he would have given his all in games like this
Time to let Dawson go - Vlad was shit today, but Dawson needed to move on. In a perfect world - this should have been a back-line of Naughton, Dier, Fazio and Davies - but Walker's injury got in the way.

Soldado's touch map is appalling. Didn't touch the ball in the box.

BECAUSE HE NEEDS TO BE GIVEN THE FUCKING BALL IN THE BOX.

Just look at the way we play. We rarely get the ball in the box.

Especially when you have Townsend shooting 20 times a game.

No surprises tonight - Lloris was outstanding, Kane did well.

Besiktas deserved the draw, but we must not forget that we put out our second string side tonight.

We looked far more comfortable with Stambouli providing cover, and he should've stayed on over Bentaleb. Nabil was poor tonight and doesn't provide a lot defensively. Dembele is a bit stronger in the tackle but he's not a defensive minded player either. Stambouli provides a similar job to Capoue in that he'll sit back and marshall, allowing his partner to aide in the attack. Him and Dembele would've held things up better.

The other mistake was taking Soldado off. I'd have rather gone 4-3-3 and bring Dembele on for Soldado to sure things up than make a like-for-like substition when a goal up against a confident Besiktas side. Soldado started off quietly but grew into the game, and was very good in the second half until he went off. He opened up the space for Kane's goal by dragging the centre back out of position. He also played a few good balls with some nice touches. He's got a lot better control than Ade and certainly has a bit more creativity and flair about him. As I said earlier, I think he'd do well with our more creative attacking trio of Chadli, Lamela and Eriksen. When he came off we didn't have that clever movement up front which would allow Kane and the wingers to find space.

So, the general malaise continues throughout our squad. As much as I despised Timmy the Turd, I'm thinking that the problem just doesn't lie with the managers. So many of the players are still phoning it in, even in spite of the squad rotation. Poch hasn't made the impact I expected, and I don't think the fault lies with him.

I can't help be think we have, unwittingly, ended up with a squad of simply lazy and bad attitude players who are happy to put in just enough to get by (with 3 or 4 exceptions). It's getting to the stage where some of them will need to start playing for their careers and yet still a lot of them don't seem to care. It's very frustrating and you've got to wonder how well we scouted any of the players who came in during the last 18 months and when you look a the lack of standout players who the fans can get behind there are hardly any among that group. So either they di indeed have and attitude problem are they aren't as talented as the club thought (which makes you wonder if our scouting consisted of reading Wikipedia stats).

This result isn't the end of the world, but it's a game we could've put to bed and we've arguably already dropped points this season in games that we should have strolled through. But my frustration comes from worrying that there isn't anybody who can get this lot playing up to their supposed strengths.

Tim's right to be honest. We should have signed a striker. Adebayor and Soldado offer little or nothing in attack. 1 PL goal so far for our strikers this season.
I really, really wanted him to be a success, but I've come to the reluctant conclusion that Soldado is a dud.

Yep no critique from me on his performance. Odd position to play him, he's probably never played wide in his life.
Like subbing in Lennon and telling him to partner bentelab in the middle
I honestly think that was a late switch for Lennon due to the little drunk missing training.

And the spaces and gaps he was running into without getting any service (AGAIN). Give it up mate, its no point arguing with some, they will only see what they want to see.

Who cares, Lennon's not a first team choice anyway, thank fuck

Do me a favour, I see what's on the pitch, and have been backing him for the last 12 months. There is zero imrovement though, his movement has actually worsened.

To play some of our first team would really be a terrible thing in a tournament where winning it brings CL wouldn't it ? Why on earth should our reserve team be expected to beat Besiktas first team ? So all the teams playing in CL should also choose their reserve teams ? How on earth do all these highly paid professionals cope with sometimes playing 2 games in a week especially with having played 6 league games ? It's really tough for them. My heart bleeds. Good job they have a 2 week break coming up to recuperate.

Well if you're playing against a team that hasn't played midweek they have a distinct advantage from not playing. CL teams will choose their reserves if they think they can get away with it but at that level it's a struggle. We'll get through this group with this 11 and that's all that matters.

Besides if we're not willing to use the squad in games like this, what's the point in having one? You can't expect players to slot in for injuries if they've not had a kick in a competitive match for 3 months.
