Or when we do make it happen and have world class players like King, Modric, VDV, Adebayor and Bale in the same side we get a manager who says 4th place is as good as it gets.

We just can't catch a break.

Redknapp the Medium, who'd have thought it.

Cant recall many people saying that we wouldnt survive without Mateo Musacchio at the beginning of the transfer window.

Bit dramatic, survive? Won't be competitive without signing first eleven lb and cb was my view. I'm cool with Davies, and with Dier but we are one big one short. We need pace and intelligence alongside Jan or we will start leaking goals like last year especially against the better attacks.

What you fail to realise is that we're owned by an investment company who's MO is to fatten us up ready for sale. It is absolutely in ENICs interest to make us as successful as possible, as that raises the value of the club and guarantees them a big profit when they eventually sell.

Having us hovering around mid table and accepting mediocrity would be a massive failure for two of the most successful businessmen in the country. That's why we are building a bigger stadium to let us push forward on a sure financial footing. Until then you will have to suck it up and accept we're not on the same level as Man U, Man City, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea in any way shape or form.

Chucking money at players with zero guarantee of making top four whilst increasing our debt is just idiots logic but it's easy to stamp and moan about 'lack of ambition' when you don't have responsibility for the future of the club.
This is without doubt the most sensible post I have read today. Kudos to you Sir ☺

Re the JJ ITK, at the start of last season I and others were saying how it was probably going to take a season to bed in. And when Liverpool signed basically bugger all we were saying watch out for them, they've a decent team and a very decent coach. Some scoffed, they'd finished 11 points behind us, and we'd signed all these superstars...

This season is where we shall see some of the fruits of last season's planting, unfortunately, even if for the better, it's somewhat undermined by the changes in coaching staff, but nevertheless we should not be too upset even if we don't sign another. We have a great squad and coach and now we need time for them to show us what they've got.

We are always one player short. There comes a point in time where coincidence collides with bad practice.

Do you think there will ever be a time when levy thinks fuck it! I said I'll back the new manager 100% and actually do it! And get the players he requested and not listen to the special deals.
No. Levy is a business man, first and foremost, and an investor in the team second. His primary motivation is the long-term viability of the team, not focused on short-term ups and downs. He also is conservative, by nature, meaning he will accept some risk, but not a lot.

He also has a responsibility to look at the next two years, and realize that revenues will be down when we play outside of WHL. That has to factor into his decisions today, and part of the reasons why he cannot overspend at this particular moment. I think that also plays a part in why we sign guys like Davies, Yedlin, Dier, and even Vorm - those are 4 players who will undoubtedly play a role in the club over the next few seasons - reducing the need to fill those holes (with money we won't have).

Liverpool spent almost £50m last season, with a net spend of around £20m. I know what you're saying though. I do think this was always going to be a(nother) transitional season for us, the worry is that whilst trying to tread water until the new stadium is built, we don't do enough and end up sinking.

Agree with all that sloth, just hope we don't sell 2 or 3 of the players we bought last year otherwise the whole thing would prove pretty pointless.

well its too late now. No business gets done in the last 12 days of a transfer window.

It does seem a bit deja vu from last year... when we let BAE go out on loan... sold Caulker and tried to get a LB but it was too late and then had to stick Verts at LB while Kaboom and Vlad were struggling with injuries at CB. Seems we don't seem to learn. Fingers crossed we do manage something in the last 12 days - but not just anyone for the sake of a transfer

How the fuck you know he is not? Just because he has not signed MM and MS? Sometimes one needs to think things through rationally instead of just falling for speculation. Yes you guessed it, I am the first born BSODL! (y)

Again in fairness, we're not talking about chucking £60k a week at Agbonlahor and Ashley Young to bloat the squad, Schneiderlin is a player the coach has identified as intricate to his puzzle. He's valued at £20m, we have allegedly offered in the region of £16m-£18m (although even that would astound me), that extra couple of million isn't doing a Leeds (that's doubling Seth Johnson's wages because you think he looks offended rather than shocked when you offer him £20k a week...) or a Villa. It's the old adage of Levy having to come out of every deal with a bigger pair of balls than the person he's up against.
Or maybe we have bid the amount and MS is not for sale, as Southampton have said quite publicly, just a thought.
