The more I think about it, the more I think it could be Suarez. I don't buy into us ever being able to get Mata as Chelsea would take less from someone else as they don't need money.

Reus is on par with Bale, if not better. Would be worth every penny of £50m IMO.

And stop mentioning mata because grey fox has already said in his thread it's not him.
SO you think a guy who got 19 goals in 47 games is on par with someone who got 26 goals in 44 goals:confused:, Yea RReus played in the CL but he had a stronger team and weaker league

If you're gonna use stats, Reus has 51 goals in 118 league games to Bale's 43 in 136. Not to mention Reus has 36 assists in the same timeframe to Bales 31 in his 136 games. (As of the end of last season)

The Bundesliga is not as weak as you think it is. Reus has been delivering consistently longer than Bale.

All I will say that a £50m bid was made 2 weeks before the end and agreed by the player's club, but the player wanted to stay for the time being and apart from Blake Griffin everyone on here would have been dancing naked down Tottenham High Road if he would have come.

Surely we should be interrogating Blake as to who he does not fancy for 50 million squid?

....Blake?

Rooney (I know wages are big but who knows, we have money apparently...big sign-on? - Maybe why we were trying so hard to ship Adebayor? - Apart from wages everything makes sense. Probably won't happen in Jan though).

Cheers Grey Fox. Staggering information. Hoping for good news in January now. Perhaps the player wants to see how we do in the first half of the season ?

Goals scored doesn't automatically make one a better player, for me Reus is the better all round player but this is going off topic.

I thought it was Draxler but now I don't know what to think.

Very few players who would go for £50m and that we'd be happy to pay that much for. It would have to be somebody who we felt would fire us into the CL and would at least maintain that sort of value for a few years so I'd reckon they'd be south of 25. I imagine that the player would be able to play instead or with Soldado OR they'd be an absolute world class left-winger who could also play as the number 10. Lastly, it's not Draxler. Also on the back of Grey Fox's info the club would have to be conducive to selling but be big enough that the player wants to stay and fight for a place.

So possible candidates
Suarez: Certainly fits most of the criteria but I *think* we'd avoid him on the basis of it being a PR nightmare.
Muller: Superb, young and versatile but is he a Pep player? Not sure myself. Would he come to us? Probably not, which again fits the billing.
Reus: Again fits the billing and Dortmund (like us) will always accept an offer at the right price. They'd probably rather sell him to us than watch Bayern swoop again. He could be wanting to stay to see how they do post-Gotze.
Hamsik: Not sure how much he'd fit in. Couldn't have seen Napoli accepting offers for him and Cavani in the same window unless Rafa completely wanted to build the team in his own image. Again could be waiting to see how Napoli do with Benitez (swimmingly by the looks of it)

Can't think of anybody else. We're not daft enough to pay £50m for Hulk, Pastore or Rooney. Chelsea would never sell us Mata. PSG wouldn't sell Lucas Moura. Falcao's wages would be way, way out of our league. Ribery and Ibra are too old.

I think it's Stephan El Shaarawy.. got AVB written all over it, Franco would have seen a fair bit of him too following Italian footy.

But I dont think he is worth that amout of money though he would be a good signing.

No i don't think so either, young talented players will all have huge prices on their heads now though, i would actually prefer Draxler, more of a thinking footballer, Shaarawy for £50m sometimes has an awful final ball.. It won't be a popular opinion and i am not digging him out as i think AVB is the best thing to happen to us since our CL run, but his fascination/obsession with some players does worry me, Anderson/Hulk being prime examples..
Anyway i would rather we took the wheelbarrow to Bayern and tempted them with £30m for Muller.. :playful:

I'll throw another name into the mix; Axel Witsel

Now I've never seen him play, so have no idea if he's rated at £50m or not, but Zenit did pay £32m for him. He's 24 yrs old and is on a long contract, so that could really push the value up. He's also quite a versatile midfielder (or so Wiki says :)), so could be a bit of an AVB player.

To be honest, I think the player is either Muller or Alexis Sanchez. Both are players who are young and on long contracts, thus the £50m fee. I also don't think they'd necessarily be on massive wages.

It could be Falcao, but first of all, I don't see us spending £80m on two strikers to fill one position, and secondly, Falcao wouldn't be able to sign for us until January anyway, so I doubt we would move for him in the summer.

My guess would be Reus, and that would indeed be a signing that would make me dance naked down Tottenham High Road.

The players who we are able to sign for around £50 million are as follows:

Juan Mata
Marek Hamsik
Radamel Falcao ( If reports regarding Moanco are true)
Thomas Muller ( I don't rate him but alot of others do)
Tony Kroos ( Price suspect but excellent player)
Marco Reus
Lewndowski = No chance!!!!! Why pay money for someone who is free so people can stop saying him!!
Luis Saurez

There the ones in my head that could possibly be 'the naked dance man'!

I don't see us paying a substantial fee for a guy that would be a rotation option in our stacked double-pivot options already.

I think we would all agree the area on the pitch that could still be upgraded the most is our LW/LF position. Everywhere else, apart from LB (Which we won't be paying north of 20m for a player to fill the position), has solid starting options.

With that being said, the obvious options include Mata, El Shaarawy, Draxler, Suarez and maybe even Muller. Suarez is an absolute dipshit but him on the left would bring creativity and goals. Draxler is only 19 but might turn out to be one of the best attacking talents in football in 2-3 years time. El Shaarawy had a fantastic season last year and at only 20 you can see him continuing to build on it. He'd also give us a bit more pace to the attack as opposed to the measured/calculated approach that Eriksen/Lamela have. Mata would be unreal and it'd be the ultimate schadenfreude if Mata was awesome for us and Willian was just good for them. Unfortunately, as I and others have already mentioned, Chelsea would sell him for less to another club and not to us as they don't need money. And Muller is a pipedream.

I think we need someone like el sharaway as opposed to eriksen, lamela who are not much pacey ... el sharaway will add goals + speed to our team ... Draxler is somewhat similar version of lamela except he is right footed .... Though draxler is much intelligent than el sharawy... I think perfect draxler + el sharawy = reus would be perfect but why would dortmund sell him or even he will come to us !!!

If it was Suarez, which I hope it wasn't very much, I wouldn't sign the rancid **** for £50. Can't think of any other player who would command that fee who would also entertain the thought of joining us possibly in Jan

Ok, after the speculation, a contingent of expats have decided to start a petition not to sign Suarez. Either that or we might as well go full b**le*d and get Wilshire, Shawcross, Adam and Barton as well.
