Re offering Bale 280k/wk. Is it that unbelievable? Our business is apparently not dependent on the Bale money. So we get an 80m player for 12m per season with no cash outlay on transfer fee. Or we buy (e.g Hulk) a 30m player and pay say 4/5m salary per year. Over 5 years we'd spend a total of 60m on Bale vs. 50-55m for Hulk.

But bale does not want to play for Spurs so irrelevant!

This is partly
Not saying our business hasn't been decent this summer, rather I think we are paying for mistakes made over the past couple of seasons. If the right players had been signed when we were in the CL or when we were in the title hunt the season before last, we would probably still have Modders and Bale and had regular CL qualification, but when it came to it, we blinked, behaved small time and have somewhat stagnated. If/when Bale goes, the Spurs team will be unrecognisable from the squad Harry had.
This is partly due to the fact (IMO) that we have not had the European pulling power that we now do in 'renowned' AVB and 'step up from Commoli' Baldini.

Grey Fox mentioned a stellar signing if Bale goes. So, maybe Juan Mata is that stellar signing? I doubt it, but this window has been so manic I don't know what to expect anymore (except Lamela and Vlad).

I find it very hard to believe CFC would do business. They would rather he rotted. That's the kind of club we are dealing with. Classless.

FFS here we go again with the H bashing!! DL was acting as diretor of football at the time, and signings were made on his say so!!! H got us into the CL, it was up to DL to stump up the cash but he didnt!! do you seriously think H would of turned down the likes of Rossi, Aguero, Forlan etc for Defoe and Crouch? sorry but that is completely wrong!! Peeps on here respect JJ's ITK, if you read back when H was manager, and read between the lines you will be suprised at who actually was responsible!!

Yes its all change now and looking good, thats imo because we have Baldini...did we have a Baldini, Arnesen when H was in charge??? we had DL!!

Sorry A&C if a bit off topic.
I was one of those who defended H during his time with us. Best league manager we'd had during my time.

But he wasn't the long-term solution and that's been proven. Whether it was at Joe Lewis' command or not. Move on already.

Mata would not be a stella signing, despite being better than Willian...

It has to be someone massive, really massive and its not going to be the hulk.

I would love to hear that phone from Levy to Roman. "Er, hi, Roman, remember when I refused to sell you Modric out of principle? Yeah, well, can we forget about all that, and can you sell me your player of the year?"

How is Mata not a stellar signing? He's class and someone that would ultimately get us up to that next level. Him and Soldado can strike up an understanding (both played for Valencia at one time together). I could see it, if Mata wasn't currently at Chelsea.

Can we not have this turn into a Redknapp debate, please?
Thank you! They're always on the lookout, ready to pounce on anything negative. The menopause is a terrible thing.

Now, back to Bale staying on a 280K pw 5 yr contract.:woot:

Let's not fall for this stellar signing nonsense again, surely we are too long in the tooth for that. DL running around Europe with a wheelbarrow of cash etc. Reality is, we will do well to sign Lamela, who I haven't seen much of, but is apparently a top prospect but without signing a left back and another attacking player of extremely high quality we will be weaker IMO. With respect to the stellar signing malarkey, can anyone name one top level player who would come to Spurs who would be in the bracket we would be looking for...I can't.

Who said that? The ITK is that he is having a think. He may want to play for RM more than he wants to play for Spurs but have they come up with the money? Also the rumoured 310k per week would be a factor. If we are nearly matching that and improving our squad to be potential challengers with him as the star man is it inconceivable that he would rethink. At RM he probably wouldn't have a free role, he wouldn't be the main man, he would have to uproot family.
