We are in pole position to get Soldado and hope to be able to announce, at very least, as soon as Saturday, that an agreement is in place. If Soldado trains on Saturday the things change and we may forfeit the first refusal agreement we have in place with Valencia

I don't understand if this is good news, bad news or a badger.

We only got Naughton because they practically offered us BOGOF when we picked up Walker.

He's not terrible... But I do prefer him to stay on the bench.

I'd personally like to see Adam Smith introduced into the squad. I'd like to see Walker get some more opportunities for rest this year. I think a lot of it last year had to do with our lack of health/depth at LB which ended up just being bad timing for him. BAE being out for an extended period of time really hurt his opportunities for rest.

Ok, i read this as:
Last year when we almost bought him we got a first refusal clause.
We are in danger of losing that should no agreement be reached by saturday.
At which point Liverpool or similar could move in on this.

Took me a few reads to come to a conclusion, but that's how I read it as well.

I think we've got him by Saturday though.

Apparently Man Utd are sniffing around Clyne, they looked at him before he signed for Saints from Palace. Smells like a Berbatov special, let him play for another team in the Pleague then go back if he does well.

Regarding the Naughton ITK, wasn't Adam Smith rated as a better prospect? If so, no need to spend the Naughton fee on a replacement, whole fee straight back in the pot to balance the books. I'd be happy enough having Smith step up as RB cover if Naughton is sold, plus we have Kaboul, and Livermore who have covered there in the past.

Doesn't seem to make much sense to me when Rafael was arguably the best RB in the PL last season, and only a year older than Clyne.

If you have first refusal..aren't you technically always in pole position until that right is forfeited?

Maybe, but i dont see many other natural right backs at United, more players who can play there, much like Verts at left back for us.

I never really understand the point of first refusal. The idea presumably is that if anyone makes a bid, they notify us and we have the right to match it. But if someone makes a bigger bid than us it doesn't make any difference, and if we make a bid they can always notify any other clubs.

First refusal is bollocks. How can you tell a player he most go to club 'A' because they have first refusal? It's an absolute load of arse.

Naughton would likely be his replacement at Saints then, makes sense.
