I'm not sure having the Belgians here already is a help seeing as there were strong rumours of a bust up between him and Dembele on national duty last year. However, considering I'm making this whole paragraph up, I think we have a good chance of getting him.

On villatalk there are a few posters comparing Villa to Dortmund

I know it is off topic, and I apologise, but one poster has said that "Dortmund are 5-6 years ahead of them in terms of development" :ROFLMAO:

and one has followed it up by saying "5 or 6 years sounds about right" :hilarious:

Dying of laughter here.

Isn't Benteke on a relative pitance at Villa? I mean the realms of fantasy to plebs like us but in footballers terms? Hopefully money won't be a deciding factor in his decision. The chance to join a club going forward with one of the best young players on the planet and best young managers in the game (and I'm not talking about Raheem Sterling and Brenda Rodgers), world class training facilities, compratriots to play alongside and forge relatonships to aid his NT prospects, aswell as the allure of London living would surely trump any money differential Liverpool could offer

You are correct but I think the main issue is that Liverpool will pay what Villa want for him, whereas we all know Spur's policy when trying to negotiate a *reasonable* price.. :shifty:

I'll have to be honest though, I did not see much of Benteke, I'm pretty much a one women club man. But is anyone else worried that he could just be a one season wonder? I can already hear the moans in WHL after we pay, say £17.9 million, and he is not banging in the goals.

Surely us vs Liverpool; if we were both paying the asking price, we'd blow them out of the water. We seem to offer more in terms of wages, also we have the lure of being in London and in Europe.

and still wont score from a corner! lol

We'll need to find someone who can take a decent one first! Siggy maybe but he'll be on the bench, and I don't really count Bale in this. A new corner taking left back?

Is Benteke better than Adebayor? Not sure.

Talent wise probably no better. But he is a much hungrier player. Spurs woud be a big step up for him and he'd be hingry to succeed. Adebayor on the other hand is on a the way down. He has had his peak career years at City, now at Spurs and probably move on to a smaller, albeit maybe richer club.

I didnt jump on the benteke bandwagon straight away, and took a lot of time to watch him in the second half of the season when Villa were on TV. I was nothing but impressed for the most part. So strong on the ball, very composed finisher, worked hard all game and an absolute beast in the air. He plays as a CF should IMHO. Its big money yes, but most seem to think an untried Real Madrd youngster in Jese is a bargain at £10m. For £18m, at 22 with enornous potential and off course that all important resale value, it could be a sensible deal for us.

I'd love him or Michu, both different I know, but stars last season. Benteke far more a Levy deal.

I wonder who else we are looking as regards to forward options? Wasn't there some ITK saying we are after a young striker to go with the senior one?

I said a couple of months back that I would really like us to go for Bony and PEA. They are young, attainable, cheap in comparison to other forwards. Have a high ceiling as regards to potential improvement.

Swansea are going to have a bargain if they do manage to seal the deal for Bony. its all gone a bit quiet n the PEA front recently too, I wonder what is happening with him?

Dortmund have signed him mate.

Not sure that Liverpool will want Benteke though. Does he fit into the Rodgers style/philosophy? I'd think we could really give him the hard sell and say we are after a player such as him to take us forward. I see us going power and pace whilst Liverpool will be going more tek.

There's all sorts of reasons why he will prefer to move to us out of the two imo.
Good point. I'm not sure that Liverpool have removed the bandages from the Andy Carrol burn yet. Obviously Carroll didn't fit into Rodgers' style, and Benteke is another powerful CF (although much, much better I think)...

What I don't understand is how our first choice (Villa at 5m) and our second choice (Benteke at 20m+) can be at such differing ends of the scale in terms of fees.

Makes our transfer policy a bit slapdash and more importantly it make me question whether we actually intend to spend that 20m.

That would be a dream come true for me! I'd even take a left back that can't take a corner

No idea where you think that we would pay more wages than Liverpool. They have not kept the likes of Suarez and Gerard at the club on less than we pay our lot. Carroll was on at least 100k a week too.

Genius is spot on as usual.

We are messing about a little bit on the finer details of the deal. For example a payment on potential senior international caps.

no need to press the panic buttons just yet.

But it terms of style of play also. I don't for 1 minute think it was either/or. Benteke hasn't just suddenly thrown a wobbly and asked for a transfer - this has been brewing for weeks and weeks. I bet he (and his agent) probably know where he'll end up now. We probably know and we're ready to welcome him or are onto the next.

It was maybe both. I would think at the moment we're looking for the alternative to Villa as well. Back to Rossi again?

I know the ITK says its down to just us and Liverpool for Benteke, but I'll not at all be surprised if Benteke goes somewhere else (Chelsea would be favs imo).

The rich clubs seem to be stock piling striking talent at present, and there was talk of Mourinho not being a fan of Ba nor having faith in Torres, so I can definitely envisage Chelsea coming in for him now Cavani is headed to PSG.

Well, Bony still hasn't signed for Swansea yet, I would love it if we gate-crashed that particular party and took him to The Lane.

He is going to have a Michu style impact on the PL, I really think he is the next gem to be unearthed. He will score a lot of goals no matter where he goes, be that Swansea or a 'bigger' club.

Just imagine the size of our team if we sign Benteke. Kaboul, Vertonghen, Dawson, Sandro, Dembele, Paulinho and Bale are all proper units. Add Benteke who last season bullied defenders for fun. It could well turn out to be a brilliant team. Physically strong, technical, good passing, good pace and aerial threat. We'd be an aircraft carrier with flair and panache.
We'd be like one of the Orc army scenes from Lord of the Rings when we line up against the oppo.

Disagree. Could just be that Villa was a one-of-a-kind deal for a multitude of reasons. I would guess that our 2nd to 5th choices are all roughly the same price range.

To be fair, for the last few windows we have spent the entire time hoping we would spend circa £20m on Leandro. Benteke is younger, proven in the PL and a full international.

I'd take either player but would prefer benteke!
