Shaw is supposedly about to snub interest from us & Chel$ki and sign a 5 year contract when he turns 18 next week.. I'm not sure we'll be spending £20m+ on Pjanic? As others have said earlier in this thread, Keisuke Honda would be as good a choice, yet cost no more than a few million, maximum.

And he's got a great engine. (ducks)

We love to speculate about the latest young superstars with sexy foreign names joining us and the the temptation is always to look abroad at young players who the whole world and it's mother are chasing, but for me, the answer (or at least an answer...) would be to take a look at someone like Jordan Rhodes from Blackburn.

That boy is all about goals goals and more goals (look at his stats over the last few seasons). He's been learning his trade at Huddersfield and now Blackburn and has contributed something like 70 goals over the last few seasons, and at the age of only 22 or 23, is a full international. We could probably pick him up for around £8-10 million and he'd be just the type of signing Levy would happily sanction. His sell on value would be much higher in a few season's time.

My point is, that by signing a young player from the second tier of football and bringing him into the fold, he's far more likely to show a degree of loyalty to us, and not be swayed by any so-called 'bigger clubs' wanting to take him off us in a few years. I don't think I could say that for some of these freign boys, who only see ££££ signs.

OK. Shoot me down if you like, but that's my opinion (put's tin hat on...)

Loyalty, there a novel idea, totally outdated I'm afraid. Gamble with a Champions League place with a striker unproven at the top level, simply won't happen. We are at a different level now.

The list of goalscorers at Championship level who couldn't hack it at the top level is long. For £8-10 million you can pick up a proven top level goalscorer so you cut down on the risk and put the percentage of success further into your favour.

Rhodes would be an awful buy. He would cost around 10-14 million and looks a bit like a young Defoe. Someone who shoots at every opportunity without thinking about his options. He doesn't hold the ball up very well and his movement is typical of a static British striker who has never played against top defenders very often. Not for me at all.

We need strikers who move well both on and off the ball, make smart runs and can bring others into the game through either quick clever passing or typical CF hold up play, like Benteke.

IIRC our scouts looked at Rhodes in the January 2012 window when he was the next big thing. He was deemed "Not good enough" then. I seem to remember this coming via Harry from Ryantegan.

Rhodes is a no for me unfortunately! He is scoring lots of goals in the lower leagues much like beckford did. But ultimately when beckford stepped up to the prem he couldn't handle it and I believe Rhodes would be the same. If were going young striker route Benteke is the one for me ...... But hes expensive!

1. There has been no contact between #CFC and Christian #Benteke, neither between #CFC his agent. "Bullshit", says his agent. #AVFC

2. An agent once asked #Benteke's agent if he could bring his client to #CFC. That's all. His agent:"Chelsea has other options than Benteke"

I'm not responsible for other agents contacting #Benteke about #Chelsea, but his official agent denies everything. #AVFC #CFC

Kristof works for HLN.be and is based in London. Personal friend as I said before.

Benteke is nothing like Darren Bent. His hold up / link play is far more developed than Lukaku's right now (understandable given the age difference) and if anything his weakness is inconsistent finishing. Benteke shows flashes of Lewandowski at times, tbh. I'm not surprised he's been linked to Dortmund. Klopp could probably turn him into a scarily complete forward.

Lukaku will likely still be the better player eventually (he's not right now) but it's kind of pointless to even discuss that, isn't it? We aren't going to sign him.

I like Benteke a lot because he can play those clever combinations around the box and knows how to set his teammates up. It'd be a risk to sign him still and I doubt it will happen because he'd cost too much, but comparing him to Bent is underselling his talent.

Couldn't disagree more. Players only show loyalty if a really top club isn't in for them. The moment a Madrid or United get involved 'loyalty' goes out the window.

The reason people get excited about 'sexy foreign names' is because these are the players who tend to have better technical ability, and aren't madly overpriced into the bargain. Look at someone like Michu for instance.

We're looking to break into the top 4. We should be looking at the best young players in world football, not 23 year old goalscorers from the lower leagues here.

Sounds wrong to me. If there's a buy out clause of £20m in his contract, why on earth would a bid of 18m test resolve?

Yeah, the report on Guardians website doesn't mention anything about a buy out clause. Just saying they want £30m.

Might be improving but to pay 20 mil for in form player who is improving ????????
It is the exact type of risk we have to take, as we are not in a position to sign the already established players, we need to get them when they are up and coming.

Hes not good enough imo, yeah he scored 17 goals last season but yakubu and grant holt scored 16 the one before. he has decent hold up play but is not clinical at all. for 20m i think we could do much better
