Not wishing to rock the boat, but doesn't having a large debt usually reduce the amount you have to spend?

Depends. I have a mortgage, so I have a debt. But I also have a house as collateral, and job that pays me enough wage to service the debt so the debt is not a problem and I needn't restrict how much I spend unless I lose my job (which might happen if I spend enough time in front of the internet all day reading this thread...). Similarly if the club is making profit and the debt is serviced then we are good.

Where did the 70m figure come from though? Here?: http://www.guardian.co.uk/news/datablog/2013/apr/18/premier-league-club-accounts-debt

Might not be so high this year.

If true am worried by the itk that we don't have any scouts. We should know what our targets have for breakfast, take drugs, have a mistress. These are multi million £ investments. Can't see levy playing it by ear.

Then again all our spies did get nicked for phone tapping.

Manure have about £600m of debt but as they keep paying it back they're ok.
Wander what would happen if they lost CL income with that debt to service?

What happened in the end with that, did anyone get arrested?

Did some further reading on Look Like Modric's posts on JA606, here's some further tidbits:
  • He thinks we may have already submitted an official bid for James McCarthy (and if not probably will soon)
  • We tried to rehire Graham Carr (Newcastle's head scout) last summer (and might this, was in the press yesterday that he might follow Llambas out)
  • Has very interesting things to say about Sherwood, essentially that he was hired at first at Harry's behest but was also close to a shareholder at Spurs, and at one point after Harry tried to sideline him, he started building up his own power base at the club by getting in good with all the money men and directors (said Levy is less convinced than others but still likes him, Edmonton has said similar I believe). Also said Bond had to mediate between Sherwood and Harry.
  • Immediately after Harry was fired, he said Joe Jordan might stay (I remember later on it came out that Jordan was asked to stay but left out of loyalty to Harry), and that Sherwood would probably be named DoF or manager (said Sherwood and Txiki Begiristain were in the frame as possible DoFs at that point)
  • The names he heard about as possible replacements immediately after Harry was fired were Sherwood, Rangnick, and AVB
  • He also said that Sherwood was the backup plan in case Harry lost his court case or left
  • This was opinion but supposedly Freund is or was supposed to be Sherwood's eyes at the training ground
  • Has a lot of praise for Chris Ramsey (called him Sherwood's right-hand man for managing the youth system, also said Ramsay had a hand in us getting AVB, not sure what that meant), Luis Martins, and Inglethorpe (who left for Liverpool)
  • Fryers was awful on trial and lazy in training, ended up signing him for ~£500K instead of the £6M originally set by the tribunal
  • We paid £1.5M for Grant Hall at tribunal
  • Had some solid team news for games in spring of 2013
If accurate, it would probably be a good thing if Sherwood gets the Brighton job

Freund is a very smart highly-regarded young coach. He will succeed AVB in the top job one day IMO.
I think so too. I'm not convinced it will be our top job but I hope it is. If old Andre has a few more seasons here before not being able to resist the advances of the giants then Freund would be an intriguing candidate and one which I hope we seriously consider going with.

Someone mentioned the other day that we have a debt of something like £70m at the moment, would that be partly covered by these incoming payments from clubs like Madrid and whoever else still owes us money? That would mean we actually have more money available than it would at first appear, I'm not a financialist so I have no idea what I'm really talking about.

Debt isn't a bad thing, if you think about it company would have to be in ok health to recieve debt.

My past knowledge of the club showed we had certain types of debt, this is a year or so out of date
1) Working Capital debt
helps with cashflow - we had quite a big one of these
2) asset specific debt
for example a stadium, you'd take out finance specfically for it.

Neither of these would really effect the company's health, assuming we are serving that debt with ease.

Are you Dan Ashcroft...?

I had a drink with Freund once three or four years ago and I made him recollected a lot about his playing days with us. Fantastic guy.

I find these cheerleader remarks about him a bit misguided. It's a bit like the old clipboard ones for Hughton, who is now one of the most highly rated coaches around.
