Pleat/Commoli: With the addition of Baldini this now brings an end to both former d.o.f. working on an advisor basis to levy. If you wandered why we had the same targets as Liverpool or why we signed Lloris that was down to Commoli. Commoli has around 12 staff of his own personally who scout the globe.
LOL You mean to tell me that this dude Commoli, ( who I thought signed good players when he was with us) who Levy sacked for not doing his job properly was rehired by Levy as an advisor??? How can that be?o_O

AVB: Head coach, I cannot stress this enough. He has never bought a player at any club, he does not get a big say in any players coming in although he is notified. The only issue was Lloris where avb was notified much later on in the process than usual and he was a little annoyed.Perfectly happy at the club and no release clause on his or anyone elses contract.

That to me just seems absolutely absurd.

If I was Tim Sherwood I'd definitely be trying to get the managers job at Nottingham Forest.

Look nurse I'm contributing...

Sherwood: Confused as to what his title will be now at the club, one of the most powerful people at the club and quite respected in the game. Will also shape the club top to bottom from schoolboys to the first team. More focused in the staff and youth at the club for example his appointment of avbs assistant Steffen Freund. AVB answers to him and a direct line to Donna Cullen. Weird situation where Sherwood could manage the under 21s but still be above the first team manager!

I think Sherwood's is fast becoming the Peter Mandelson of our club. The minister without portfolio, but a finger in everyone else's.

All sounds a bit odd doesn't it? If he's so respected within the club I'm not quite sure why he wasn't given Baldini's job.

Either way, I'm not sure how AVB is supposed to 'answer to him'.

The rest of it seems fairly normal, although I highly doubt that AVB has no say in transfers. It was well known he was after Moutinho, and although we didn't get him it was clear that we were trying to.

Surely the system is that AVB says, "I need a box to box midfielder", then the team go out and find him one. He then has his view and a decision is taken whether to sign that player.

If players are just being signed and given to AVB to work with without him having any say on what types of player are required then that is a bit concerning.

I cant fathom that Levy still took advice from Commolli...

So our targets were the same as Liverpool, because we were both being advised by Commolli? When he'd been sacked by both clubs? Hmm.

Oh well, makes the morning go quicker reading that.

Typical bi-polar Comolli, Lloris and Dempsey. From the man who signed Berbatov and Bent.

It gives me an uneasy feeling knowing Sherwood has so much power at our club. I don't even know why it feels worrying!

I dare say JJ might be a name on that list.

Really? I wouldn't have thought that one of the big boys (and big girl) would have much time to tittle-tattle on twitter. Not very professional. Interesting read though all the same. Perhaps even detailed enough to require less salt than most of the other stuff we hear.

At the end of the day, who really gives a flying fuck what Sherwood is doing at the club, or what he's responsible for, as long as AVB is happy in his post & the club is going in the right direction, which it truly appears to be doing!!

Makes perfect sense about AVB having no input in signings.

Vertonghen was long being linked before AVB. Adebeyor wasn't on a permanent.

Not sure how it'll last tbh. If a "head coach" keeps getting duds he'll get the arse ache sooner rather than later.

Also explains why Leandro is still on the cards under the 37th manager we've had since our first bid was rejected.

I think maybe because his work at the club is of such an unknown quantity to us. He might be amazingly talented at his job and invaluable to improving the club...but we wouldn't know because it's so opaque.

Its clear that we're trying to be powerful down the middle, with creativity down the sides. The great thing about this, of course, is that the front 3 can be interchangeable and really confuse the opposition, but we'll hopefully stay solid. Hope it all comes together.

I do think it's a pretty interesting concept.

But, I also like the ability to match up against opponents with either the 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1.

Obviously last season we struggled mightily when Dembele went down. Paulinho is pretty much like-for-like so if Dembele were to need some time off, we could either transition to the 4-2-3-1 and have Paulinho/Sandro form the holding 2 or we could just incorporate a guy like Holtby into the midfield 3.

Also, I'm hoping we can continue to bring along Holtby and Carroll into that 4-3-3. Both are incredibly talented and I love the idea of having them both on the pitch given their propensity to always show for the ball but also their willingness to keep the attack ticking over.

I believe our RW position should be solid with what we already have. Bale and Townsend offer us a really nice duo that have similar styles of play. Both have the ability to beat their man and also love to take any shot that presents itself.

LW is going to be the really difficult thing to figure out. If we do want to stick with inverted wingers, Lennon/Siggy are our current answers there. But, does Lennon offer enough creativity and quality final ball to account for what would most likely be a guy that doesn't score 8+ goals in a season? It's hard to say. I always thought Lennon looked like he has more goals in him because at times his finishing is just superb. As for Siggy, I'm a huge fan and despite not having the typical pace, his ability to pick out a pass and create space on the dribble has been impressive. He had some serious shit luck this season and if he had just a couple of inches of better luck, he might have had double-digit goals in the league.

Striker: Hmph. Needs some work.

But I do think the foundation could be there should we get Paulinho and then focus on a guy like Villa and Bernard. Those two would add a ton of creativity/fluidity to the attacking front.

I've got no issue with that article whatsoever, rings true and makes sense.
We've been told Levy wanted to step back, we've been told Sherwood has an important role.
That Comolli or Pleat have advised on players, doesn't surprise or worry me. The more people involved with scouting the better.
That Comolli was still involved doesn't worry me either; it's business, and he had good contacts.
Am excited that Baldini will come in & rather than solely answer to Levy will have a degree of carte blanche to manage signings.
Not worried about our HEAD COACH (can't emphasise that enough) having minimal input to transfers. It's not his job, it never has been and we've been running a team effort for hiring players for a long while now. Anyone who doesn't like that need only take a look at QPR.

So: this is who we are: let's sign some fucking players.

Also, if AVB has 'no input in signings', how the heck do we go about explaining the likes of Holtby coming out & saying AVB was really impressive when he spoke to him before signing?

I think the "AVB has no input in signings" is purely down to a matter of how you personally translate it.

people who don't read these threads in forums?

of course many people want to know what is going in behind the scenes.

Well of course people want to know what's going on behind the scenes, then again, people also want want to know what it's like to have Holly Valance on their face. People don't always get what they want!!

I'm a supporter of THFC, NOT of Tim sherwood, NOT of Daniel Levy, Not of Franco Baldini, NOT of AVB, JUST THFC.. So, taking that into account, as long as we are looking good on the pitch, appear to be going in the right direction, and everyone within the club seems happy within their job, anything outside of that is of secondary importance, to me.

From the position we are all in, ie the outside, everything is looking really good right now. We've just had a very good season, one which was 'supposed' to be a season of 'transition'. Yet it ended up being a season when we brought in some excellent players, amassed a record total of points, had a serious go at the supposedly rubbish Europa League (I'm chuffed to be in any European competition), and literally EVERYONE appears to be VERY happy at the club.

So, hopefully you now understand my original point of, who gives a fuck what Sherwood's job is if we've got all of that going on?

Bit of gold in them hills from this Looks Like Modric bloke, bit of opinion, bit of club facts:
Judging by his 'who everyone is' post maybe he's leaving?
[I appreciate this isn't really for here so happy for anyone to move if required.]

5 days ago:
the reason we are not hearing anything is because everyone is on holiday. Not just the players but executuves aswell.
Who is promising from the youth setup:
Cristian cellabos and milos veljkovic
if your looking to go even younger harry winks 16 I think and been training with the first team most of last season.
On Vertonghen:
For me vert looks everybit the defensive centre midfielder his postioning at his age for a centre back is very bad. Also he is the most static defender I have seen when the ball is in the air in our box.
vert is quality though just for me a bit like Luiz better suited to midfield.
Injuries:
Last time i checked.......
Sandro was ahead of schedule and was due to resume full training in early August.
Kaboul is more complicated, he had a knee injury the recovery was setback after setback very similar to Ledley in the fact the knee would swell for a few days after. He then nearly tore his calf muscle and was not expected back until September. However.....
Good news: Kaboul has recovered from the calf injury 2 months early and is gym training for a return.
Bad News: We are yet to find out what is gonna happen with his knee. Theoretically it could turn into a Ledley situation, he might have surgery again or everything turns out tickityboo.
On a side note Lennon had his minor surgery and will be back a few weeks into pre-season.
Defoe and Dembele both have alternative therapy scheduled to recover from the pelvic and hip injuries respecitively.

Leandro was supposedly close in Jan so I guess we did an FX with forward deals for the staged payments to lock in a rate. Lets be fair with Lewis making his wealth through FX trading he has the expertise to guide the club on all FX exposure.
Seeing as the Leandro deal didn't happen and assuming they actually dealt the trades rather than trade them out maybe they decided to hold the funds because they felt they could finalise the Leandro deal in summer. There was speculation that Levy had ongoing talks with a view to signing him early this window
As that seems to have fallen through it may leave us with a cable position and some forward options that they can utilise for Paulinho/Bernard etc.
Who knows, I have no idea if the rate has been favourable which would mean we would be onside on any deals we may have done, normally companies don't expose themselves to FX risk but maybe the combination of being onside and likely to deal usd for a brazilian player meant that Levy (or under advice from Lewis) was happy to let it run
