"Progressing down" was the term I should have gone with, not the term typically associated with a contract in its final stages, you're right.

How do you know any of your second paragraph though? I mean I'm not saying you're wrong, but what indication so you have for any of that beyond personal hope?

Think its likely that Vertonghen will be at Spurs for another season with DL taking up the 2 year option - so he's got 3 years left on his current contract

Honestly I don't think an agreement made in 2012 makes it any more likely, as it also just improves value, so to be frank I don't think that's indication of anything one way or the other.

Think we need to sell about 10 players this TW - so if I were DL I'd want to focus on those and not add an extra one to the workload - but of course if Jan is unhappy and his agent comes to DL with a great offer from Madrid or Barcelona then he'd probably go with it so as not to keep an unhappy player

That is true, it will undoubtedly be a rather hectic summer for us. I do think there will be some serious movement of CB's this summer though, and some very strong clubs in Germany in particular will be on the lookout. Would be very surprised to see Wolfsburg not express interest in particular.

Lloris
Yedlin Moreno Vertonghen Rose
Mason Bentaleb
Alli
Lamela Kane Eriksen
Vorm Walker Dier Chiriches Carroll Pritchard Chadli Ings

Yedlin will eventually phase out Walker at some point next season. Chirches to be deployed at DM in tough games, if he stops dropping the odd clanger in him that is, I think he'd do fantastic deployed in that position. Eriksen is NOT a #10. And currently Lamela is our best RW and I'm hoping we see the real him next season, if not we'll have to upgrade.

Going out on a limb with Morgan Schneiderlin, but if we get him this is the most realistic lineup in my preferred 4-3-3. I really, really, really hope one of Ryan Fredericks or DeAndre Yedlin push on in preseason and give Walker a run for his spot - I legitimately think Fredericks can surprise a lot of people and be a day 1 starter.

Thought this would be fun! :)

Including your formation and the new players you'd like us to buy, please share your starting XI and bench for our opening Premier League fixture of the 2015/16 season.

Mine...

Formation: 4-2-3-1

Starting XI:

Lloris

Walker - Höwedes - Vertonghen - Rose

Milner - Bentaleb

E.Salvio - Eriksen - Ntep

Kane

Subs: Vorm, Wimmer, Dier, Mason, Rabiot, Pritchard, Ings

Regardless of the overall team, Milner is a cracking shout...he'd be a belting signing for us.

How would people feel about this;

Lloris, Vorm

Walker, Yedlin
Rose, Davies
Dier, Fazio
Vertonghen, Wimmer

Mason, Paulinho
Bentaleb, Stambouli

Lamela, Townsend
Eriksen, Pritchard
Chadli, Dembele

Kane, The Big Summer Signing

Supplemented by whoever isn't sold or loaned out from the following;

Veljkovic, Fredericks, Carroll, Alli, Winks, Onouha, Oduwa

I love Championship manager as much as the next man, but think I could live with this. Just 1 player (plus Wimmer who I think is as good as done). Definitely need a quality back up for Kane. Someone suggested Troy Deeney which I think could be an interesting shout.

I like the core concept of what you're pointing out, but if we go into next season with a winger stable of Lamela, Townsend, Dembele, and Chadli then we have zero chance of performing any better than we have this season and any other expenditures would therefore be a waste of money.

Any one think there is even a slight chance Lennon will be given another chance? He is having a fantastic time at Everton at the moment.
I think Lennon has never been the same since Corluka left and we started playing with inverted wingers.
I can't see Poch ever changing his formation. But it is feasable to play with an inverted LW and an orthodox RW.

Pritchard has played mostly the No 10 for Brentford this season, and I suspect that's where he'll end up with us for a variety of reasons, including the simple fact that his skillset and quick feet are perfectly suited to the position given the congestion this system creates.

Oduwa is tried out at League Two level. We need immediate addressing of our left wing, as we've failed to do so for several years now, and that decision has hurt us badly now for two years in particular. We cannot afford to overlook it once again, and I think the coaches know that, hence the links for wingers.

Vertonghen has refused a contract extension, in which case Levy will be inclined to sell as soon as would be possible, especially if the manager agrees to it. I've no doubt Poch would like to team back up with Moreno, and as such we would be bringing in a replacement for less (Moreno has one year left on his contract) than what we would sell Vertonghen for. Thus, all parties would be happy, and I think it very likely Vertonghen leaves this summer.
According to JJ, it was us that pulled out of negotiations not Verts. His exact wording "more to it than that. The balls in our court not his".

I care more about outgoings than incomings but would think us fools if we don't go for Milner. Something like:

Lloris
Walker - Fazio - Vertonghen - Rose
Milner - Bentaleb
Lamela - Eriksen - Chadli
Kane

Worth noting that Spurs haven't lost any of the 14 games this season (W12D2L0) that Kane, Vertonghen, Eriksen and Lloris have all started. This includes versus United, the scum and Chelsea. Kind of feel like with Bentaleb in the mix we have our spine.

Yeah I suppose we have no idea, but I'm largely running from his quotes here:

http://www.theguardian.com/football...en-not-signing-new-contract-tottenham-hotspur

Does lead you to wonder if indeed we actively would prefer to sell so Pochettino can get his choice in Moreno.
It's very odd that both he and the club have agreed not to sign a new contract. It could be that we agreed to sell him in 1 years time (possibly with Moreno in mind to replace him). If that is the case, I'm hopeful Hugo will be here at least another year, considering he did sign a new contract.
